Confused Undergraduate by Chidera29(f): 9:22pm On Nov 10, 2020
I'm a 17 year old female in one of the Nigerian university in one of the state universities in the south east
A public health 200 level student of public health, I'm supposed to be in 300 level now if not for the strike to be graduating 2022 when I'm 19 years old

My problem now is that I do not want to continue with my course I have always wanted to be a medical doctor or a pharmacist so I retook this 2020 jamb

I know you would be wondering why I didn't take jamb in 2019 ,I wanted to see if I would grow interest or a likening to my course since it is related to health but I haven't

I'm most likely going to get admission to a university in the south south the odds are in my favour

But now almost everyone is telling me to finish up with my course first and start from 200 level medsurg as direct entry come 2023 so that I will bag both degrees but I just don't see the need

I do not have passion for my course and I feel like I'm just wasting my time even though my grades are good though my mom has encouraged me to go for what I want even if it means forfeiting my present course

I need your suggestions
Thank you

Hello.

I suggest you hold on to what you have until you have an alternative.

If you eventually get admitted into Medicine, you can leave your current program. Until then, please remain serious with your studies.

If you eventually get MBBS, by all means, cross over. Finishing Public Health before Medicine has no significant advantage. You can always pursue postgraduate studies in Public Health after your MBBS (if interested).

I'd emphasize again. Do not leave Public Health until you've got Medicine.

Good luck.

Thing is do what makes you happy. Hopefully, it's Uniport or Unical. Great universities, those are

The topic displays that she's confuse, she shared her issue in the box to get advised and the only thing you can think of is to worsen the situation.

If you get the admission, leave Public health, no one should go through the torture of studying a course they despise. Follow your dream. I hope you are not going to study medicine in a state university.

don't listen to anyone telling you to do what you don't feel up to cause in the end you'll carry your cross alone. Do what you are comfortable with and have passion for. Don't be forced to read what you have zero interest for otherwise you'll end up regretting it. Trust me

I doubt you can get a direct entry into med/surgery with a bsc public health. Med/surg direct entry is for bsc anatomy, biochemistry and physiology.

Many of my friends with such plans got tired after their first degree so they just continued with masters in their various fields.

If you get med/surg admission, please go for it and leave public heath. Public health is not lucrative in this country. I know many of them who are now into teaching, insurance companies, banking and entrepreneurship.

Just my advice because I have many friends in that field.

In the end,it probably won't even matter.
You'll eventually get married to one man and start making babies. You were talking about your dilemma and a guy was already shooting his shot up there. That's how it is.
What you're going through right now doesn't matter, just keep being a woman.

Follow your heart and spare yourself the torture my dear but before you do.. Keep studying your public health course then when you finally gain admission in pharmacy or medicine you forfeit public health
Re: Confused Undergraduate by LordIsaac(m): 11:02am On Nov 11, 2020
Please hold on to what you have until the admission letter of the new field touches your hand then you can switch. You deserve peace... Forget the noise of holding on to what you don't really want.

OP I'll start by saying, I know that confused state you're in now but trust me it's isn't the end. I'll advise you to keep your fingers crossed as you remain hopeful that this year's admission favours you for MBBS, on the other hand I'll argue you to stick to pub health as you're yet to be admitted for medSurg. Once admitted, I'll advise you can then switch. PLEASE AND PLEASE make sure you strive hard in MBBS to avoid prolonging your stay or worst been withdrawn. Success ahead!!
Permit me to add this: I'm sure it's UNN(south-east) and it's UNIUYO(south-south). If I'm right then I must say I deserve ice cream. Smiles *

Re: Confused Undergraduate by PlsBanMe: 6:06pm On Nov 11, 2020
Get a new admission for your preferred course first and then, leave your current course.

It will be your best decision ever.

Don't stop your current course until you secure the preferred one. In as much as you haven't gotten the admission you seek, still work on having the best grades with the one you have at hand.

Nothing is certain in this country until it is certain.

Follow your heart. My advice is that you should wait till you gain admission for Medicine & Surgery before you drop this one you are currently studying. May God bless your mum.

I had this issue too while trying to study engineering and I was given maths ....I had to stay home for 2 years before I got what I want and it was worth it sha........

So my advice if you feel you can prepare for jamb while in schl then go for it .....if not and you're truly interested in the medicine and surgery then consider dropping out to prepare adequately cos to enter for Mbbs is no joke

Until you get the admission to study MBBS, don't quit or try to be less studious in your current course.
