It was just another change of mind…. Just like the hundreds or even thousands of decision you make every day. But this was really an important decision for him and he hesitated. His feet grew cold before he finally summoned courage to sign the resignation letter and handed it over to his boss. He couldn’t believe he was still terrified after several months of planning and many years of hopes and dreams. In fact, it felt like the future of his family was hanging in the balance.
He didn’t have a master plan; all he did was to enrol with an online fashion school some few months before he had the courage to finally make his decision. Little did he know that decision was going to start a cascade of events that would literally transition him from his being a poor master’s degree holder to one of the richest well-known Nigerian bespoke designers. He had worked for over eight years as an IT specialist but had nothing remarkable to show for it. As he sat behind the wheels of his station waggon vehicle staring at the texts of the drafted letter, there was no grand thought of anything more than making a few extra bucks to help support his family.
But the real reason that he hesitated over the decision came down to one word- DESPERATION. He was desperate for a change, he needed a success! He needed to make some money! He needed to turn his life around! And he had been waiting for this moment for too long. Even though he didn’t know how to start, he also didn’t have any funds as at then, all he had was the courage, the hunger for a change, his lingering obsession with creativity and the fashion skills he had gained before he resigned.
He knew for sure that if he had invested the kind of diligence and dedication he devoted to his white collar job into his fashion carer, he wouldn’t be poor. After sharpening his skills and ascertaining he was up to the task, he launched his fashion brand. Today, Mai Atafo’s clothing label had gained popularity while attracting top clientele.
