The recent defection of the incumbent Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC) may have been greeted with some mixed feelings among the APC stakeholders and most especially the party's stakeholders from the Soutstates Due to the recent claim by the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, that Governor David Umahi decamped to the ruling APC, in pursuance of his 2023 presidential ambition, the Southwest stakeholders of the party should not sleep with their two eyes closed.

As some may attach less importance to this claim, by Nyesom Wike, one can not overrule the possibility of the ruling party, favouring the southeastern part of the country, for the 2023 presidential race. With the growing agitations for presidency among the south easterners, I feel it really makes sense for the ruling party not to overlook the region in their political permutations, against 2023 presidential election. As it stands now, the APC has both Imo and Ebonyi states as the States they control in the southeastern region of Nigeria. It also means that, the support of the ruling party is being strengthened, with the recent defection of the Ebonyi state governor. With the way events are unfolding in the party, I opined that, some blocs within the ruling party might have been routing for emergence of APC presidential candidate, from the southeastern extraction.

In addition, southwestern APC stakeholders may have been feeling comfortably positioned to get the APC presidential ticket in 2023. But with the recent acceptance of David Umahi into the APC fold, the Southwest stakeholders in the party should not have the over confidence that, the APC presidential ticket is for them. The northerners in the party have not really announced the particular region they want to support in the South. This makes the competition higher. From the look of things, the South easterners are beginning to embrace the membership of the APC, the more. They have realised that, for the region to get the presidential ticket, that will make the candidate win in the general election, APC is the answer.

This is the time for the Southwest stakeholders of the party to come together and agree on sole candidate from the region, towards party primaries. Despite the cordial relationship between the northern bloc and southwest bloc in the party, the Southwest bloc still needs to up their game to be able to get the 2023 presidential ticket from the ruling party.

Let's see it from this angle.
If Apc follows the current trend.

Presidency will go to S' West.
Vice - North West
Senate - South East (Okorocha will have it if all goes well)
Deputy senate - North
House of rep - S'West

if Umahi isn't going for senate then he will be given a Minister.
And he isn't from a oil producing state, they would compensate him with NDDC minister.

Anyways, All I want is a southern that will reciprocate the appointments Buhari did in his tenure.

So APC would be dumb enough to sideline their perennial lap-dog, Chris Ngige and Okorocha and give Johnny-just-come Umahi the ticket?

Anyways, I don't care who win the 2023 elections as long as it's a person that has the gut to initiate wholesome restructuring or break the country into pieces. Just very tired of answering the same name as those murderous cows.

The only thing keeping Nigeria entact is that the SE politicians still believe in Nigeria. If the presidency goes to the SW. Everyone in SE will want Biafra, that includes the politicians, the rich and the poor.

Not placing a bet but I'll be disappointed big time.
They should better pick up their thinking cap and neutralized whatever charm and vegetable the North has given them.

Reasonable thinking didn't stop when a northern is there, nah when it's the turn of the south.

Any southern way favor north than south is a big F00l irrespective of his personality.

No, you got it wrong, the only thing keeping Nigeria entact is that, our so called politicans are cashing out big time in One Nigeria.

which they won't have opportunity to cash out that amount of money when Nigeria divides.
if Nigeria divides, all the regions involves will go broke at first before looking for means to raise revenues. and to keep forex, GDP intact.

This is what happens when politicians don't have any convincing political ideology hence decamp from party to party hence making the polity unstable.Who rules this nation is not the problem, but what happens thereafter.

The internal politics for the soul of APC in 2023 has gone a long way beyond what a new comer will upturn.

Forget about zoning, even if Atiku joins APC today with his money, he won't make an impact in the primary

As a Sitting Gov in a PDP-controlled State, he has the access to go the Senate, if he wants to.

The Umahi we all know won't decamp to be a Minister. (will be a last resort for him though).

He is going there to be the SGF, VP or President (those are the 3 positions I know that can make him make a bold move despite the angst of all the Federal lawmakers in his State as well as his "friends" in the PDP)

The APC is in a quandary, because the Govs want to put it in their pockets. They have moved their Convention slated for December, till further notice.
