I also school in kebbi. To be candid and sincere "Hausa's are very friendly and homely" so far as you can maintai their ways of life.

Obey the rules of the land and you will surely enjoyed your stay in their land.

Be a practicing Muslim and they will treat you like their Emirs. Infact, those bless with Islamic and Western knowledge are always treated more like a local government chairman. They will surely Accord you with the respect they gave their honourables when you try learn their language.

The mistake most Southerners always make is trying to live our Western live over here which they don't accept into their culture.

Respect their religion and belief, they will surely reciprocate the same to your religion especially when you are steadfast with your religion.

Don't dare play unislamically with their girls.

Don't try to speak against Islamic religion

Don't try to showcase yourself as being better than them.


When they tell you the rules of the land adhere to it strictly.


With all thses mentioned above, my guy you will always enjoy the northern part of Nigeria.

This brings back good memories of Gombe State when serving there 14yrs ago though two incidents almost mar the beautiful experience First, I was involved in a bike accident during fasting period and felled down injured with blood gushing out of my leg and the people were staring at me until a Christian man came to my aid. Second incident was walking along the road even in your khaki and kids throwing stones at you, aside these two incidents serving in Gombe was one of the best thing that has happened to me because I took decisions based on where I served in going forward and it shape my destiny.

I'm going to nysc camp next month, enjoying your story and already envisioning how mine could be.

As a jewel corper myself, I had a good time serving in Gombe state. Though I was posted to Yamatul Deba LGA, and later to GVTC hinna in Dadin kowa. The border between Gombe and Borno state. A very peaceful and serene environment where Bima hills and Dadin kowa dam is located.

I never enjoyed camp maybe because of the extreme heat at Mallam Sidi at that time (Feb-March) as my platoon were always running into trouble and those soldiers always tell us to sit or lie flat on the ground.

I lived in Dadin kowa for about 3months (nearly totally cut off from the rest of the world as there was no GSM network) then "something happened" that made me rethink my living there and i had relocate to Gombe town to live there permanently, only travelling to my PPA daily and returning back before nightfall.

You have a jewel of a memory! To still remember things from way back is simply amazing.
I'm not done reading this work though.

So much memories bro... I also served in Gombe in the late 2000s.... Bajoga the headquarters of Funakaye LGA to be precise. I remember Billiri, one of the southern parts.... Billiri, Kaltungo, Akko etc.
And Mallam Sidi.... not a very good experience.
I hope they finally completed the camp on the other side of the road

I can't call this an inspiration per say.
Perhaps,I was infuriated with few NYSC stories shared so far on Nairaland which were either uncompleted or too short for a year sojourn.
I am not entirely bad as a writer but my last consideration for writing as a career dated back at secondary school when it became a regular feat to win essay competition at state level
So yes, I could be a bit Rusty in writing but I assure you of completion of my sojourn throughout NYSC.
And yes, i was posted to the jewel of Savanna- GOMBE STATE in early 2000s.

Government Secondary School, Mallam Sidi camp was 100 percent fun!
Gombe state is very good. I served 2009/2010.

Wow, Tongo was where I was to be redeployed to but I spoke with the guy at the LGA headquarters so I was retained at Bajoga. Served in GDSSS Bajoga.... Men those are years old memories
