Hello Nairalanders.....A close friend of mine was to return to Nigeria from china early this year but due to covid-19 pandemic decided to stay back a bit till everything was clear...

Fast forward to now after booking for his flight ticket which has a stopover in hongkong,he was denied boarding a plane in Shanghai cos he doesn't have an hongkong transit visa which he never knew of or told and his visa expires in 3days and getting the hongkong transit visa takes 4 weeks.....

Please experienced nairaland travellers and guys currently residing in China, please what countries can he has stop-overs or connecting flights to that doesn't require transit visa... .

Pls help urgently so he won't overstay his visa or have issues with Chinese authorities because he is operating under a low budget after expending so much to exorbitant flight tickets rates and other Chinese authorities wahala....

Singapore.
Used it when I went to New Zealand and suddenly, the Hong Kong I travelled through started telling me stories.
Singapore does not need any transit visa.

I prefer Turkish Airlines to British airways or Lufthansa, their services are great just like their hospitality in their country.

If he is unable to leave China before his VISA expires, he can approach his school to help him get his VISA extended for 60days only. There are 2 options here, the police or immigration. Within this period, he should arrange for his exit.

As for the airlines, what happened to Ethiopia Airways, Kenya, Rwanda, Qatar, Turkish, Etihad? These airlines do not need transit VISA for Nigerians.

Seems the routes changed due to corona virus wahala plus the ones that don't need transit visas are not having space as the date he plans to fly is so close seems they are fully booked within the days he wants to fly. Na to extend his visa sure pass as it stands.

Transit flight is just a stop over flight,routing a different route before your final destination.
If you don't leave the airport to enter the country, you don't need transit visa.
Just stay at the airport till your connecting flight.
However, you can get visas in Dubai and Turkish airport on arrival if you so wish

Usually they have visa Agencies at the airport. But since the covid pandemic, I believe a lot of things must have changed.

no. Transit visa allows him to come out of the airport. If he's not coming out of the airport, he doesnt need transit visa, but some countries require it.

i'm surprised. When i went to south korea via london and hong kong, i didnt obtain hong kong transit visa and went successfully and came back successfully

Fly to Kenya. Then find your way from Kenya. Kenya is the closest African country to Asia where you don't need a visa to fly to cos of your naija passport. (Visa on arrival, covid19 negative testing applies)

You can get dubai visa online too etc

He should use qatar airways. I had similar problems when I booked Cathay pacific airline and was prevented from boarding. I had to switch to Qatar airways and canceled my ticket in the airport. That's a good bet for him. Thank me latet

Very sure. Transit visa is only required if you want to enter the country,but if you are to get a flight from the airport i.e you are not leaving the airport then you dont need a transit visa.
Example, Travel via Alitalia from UK to Italy, from Italy join Alitalia to Nigeria, but if I am travelling to Nigeria and I have to change Airport when I get to Italy, I must get a transit visa to enter the country to go to the next airport.
If all I need is to change flight at thesame airport without leaving the airport, then I dont need a transit visa, since I'm not leaving the airport and going into town .

Try using Ethiopia Airline or Qatar Airline these are the only airlines I know that can issue e-visa on arrival, and continuation. Have a good one.

When was that please? and did you use one airline or multiple airlines?

You can apply for the transit visa, there may be an option for a fast-track. Immigration officers might help but I won't hold my breath on that.

Or find another airline with a stopover in another country like Turkish airline. It might be more expensive, better find the money. This is the best alternative, Chinese immigration laws are rigid.

It depends on country. Many airport transit requires Transit Visa, especially Europe. I have travelled through Germany and London with airport Transit Visa.

Many of the commenters have obviously not travelled in a while. Some are even suggesting Ethiopia airline

What is he going outside the airport to do since he is on transit?
