Osun State Government has declared that Osun State University has taken over the College of Health Sciences and the former LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

It also approved the immediate renaming of the Teaching Hospital to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), Osogbo.

This followed the dissolution of the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) by Oyo State and Osun State, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding to effect a new management structure of the institution.

Based on the terms of the MoU, the National Universities Commission (NUC) handed over ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, to the Oyo State Government while the Osun state Government took over the College of Health Sciences in Osogbo and the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

A statement signed by the Osun State Commissioner for Education, Folorunso Oladoyin, on behalf of the Osun LAUTECH Committee under the chairmanship of Professor Olu Aina, disclosed that the new UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital will compliment the main Teaching Hospital that is under construction, donated by Mr & Mrs Modupe and Folorunso Alakija. The statement read in part: “Sequel to the separation of joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, between Oyo and Osun states, the Government of Osun State wishes to make known that Osun State University has been directed to take over the College of Health Sciences and the former LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Osogbo. This new development will compliment the MAIN Teaching Hospital that is under construction and donated by Mr & Mrs Modupe and Folorunso Alakija.
“The Osun State Government has approved the renaming of former LAUTECH Teaching Hospital as UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), Osogbo with immediate effect.

“All Consultants and other staff of the College of Health Sciences as well as the Teaching Hospital in Osogbo are assured of job security under the new arrangement as nobody will suffer loss of job or income as a result of the separation of ownership.

“The government wishes to advise Staff and Students of Osun extraction in Ogbomoso campus of LAUTECH to please remain there as their interests have been well protected by the MoU signed by the two Governors and there is no reason for any staff to panic as their rights, privileges and duties will be dictated by the terms of their contract of employment.

“The government of the State of Osun has no reason to doubt the commitment and integrity of her counterpart in Oyo State as regards the faithful implementation of the MoU on job security and protection of students rights. Hence, there is no need for any panic induced mass transfer of workers of Osun extraction from Ogbomoso to Osun,” the statement read.

This is commendable and a good news for those who value the stability and wellbeing of the prestigious school.

This mutual agreement is better than those years of fighting between the two states.

It's is shame for the two former governor's who spend 8 years each under same party but utterly failed to reach an agreement on settling the ownership dispute.

It is shameful that both Aregbe and Lt. Ajimobi couldn't use their samenpolitical umbrella to move the school forward. Likewise, Oyinlola and Ladoja would have written their names in gold if they'd done this.

Tinubu was the chancellor of that school for almost 6 year but didn't visit the school to ascertain level of things, the battle even got worst under his chancellorship without any iota of intervention. But you will see him mobilising footsoldiers, money and media mercineries to campaign and snatch governorship, senate and HoR in SW states.

This shows that a man like him do not value education since there's no money to steal for him in Lautech or not national/state asset to hijack like the LASU property in Ketu. A truly patriotic leader will use his chancellorship to make sure students in that school do not suffer but he prefers defending incompetent Bihari to ameliorating the plight of innocent student with almost 3 years in strike.

'Eyin eniya, e ronu'

It took two governor under different political parties to achieve this priced peace.

They didn't care all this while because their children all school abroad. So between retaining power in the SW and moving the school forward, they had to choose politics and allowed the school to keep decaying.

Just as expected na, very nice initiative
Seyi Makinde doesn’t joke with academics
He is the people’s governor
At least let’s see if Lautech will have a smooth academic calendar after this bold step OYSG took

This understanding was made possible by Oyetola and of cause Tinubu. Seyi makinde is very pleased with Tinubu now and even the Olu of Ibadan visited Tinubu to appreciate his leadership skills on this issue. Aregbeshola was a big problem for both side reaching an agreement when he was the governor and late Ajimobi was there too, Aregbeshola almost even mess up the whole Educational system in Osun. Thank God this issue is resolved and I hope both states can now invest massively well on education to move this Universities forward.

/s]shut up joor, you know nothing of the crisis and you are blaming Tinubu. Oyetola and Tinubu made this peace deal possible. Was Tinubu the governor of Oyo or Osun state? If not for the relationship btw Oyetola and Tinubu, and Oyetola being a good, gentle and someone who listens to Tinubu's good advice this landmark peace won't have being possible. Go and see how Tinubu stopped the religious crisis Aregbeshola was building and introducing into Osun state Educational system then you would not be blaming Tinubu for everything.

How Senator Tinubu, Olubadan secured full ownership of LAUTECH for Oyo state
By Oluwasegun Oluwadamilare

The controversy surrounding the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, LAUTECH, jointly owned by the Governments of Oyo and Osun got to its crescendo when the institution was locked up for about three years over non payment of staff salaries amongst other lingering issues occasioned by the poor funding of the school by the governments under the immediate past Governor of Oyo, Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi and former Governor of Osun and now Minister for Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

During the debacle between LAUTECH and Oyo State Government, students of the institution led series of protests to show their agitation and displeasure which was partially resolved and led to the reopening of the school before Ajimobi left office in 2019.

Seyi Makinde, incumbent Oyo State governor, has however since taken it upon himself to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis and rot in the school by adequately funding it.
According to knowledgeable sources, who disclosed to newsmen that it took the swift intervention of the Olubadan of Ibadan Land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who put a call through to the influential politician, Asiwajù Bola Tinubu before an agreement was reached between the two states to end the joint ownership of the institution.

“Olubadan had to intervene by calling Asiwaju Tinubu to speak to the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, to fully cede the ownership of LAUTECH to Oyo state government since Osun state has it’s own State University. Few days after Olubadan called Asiwaju Tinubu; he called back to update Olubadan that he had spoken to Governor Oyetola who has agreed to cede the university for full ownership to Oyo State but Oyo will have to meet some conditions before the final forfeiture of the University,” one source said.

Sources further added that Makinde’s move through Olubadan was not well received by Tinubu, who felt the governor should have reached out to him directly to broker the deal between the two states.

“Asiwaju was not happy that Olubadan had to call on Makinde on his behalf. Asiwaju believes despite their party dichotomy, what joins them together is the fact that, they both speak the Yoruba language, they should keep close contact. Asiwaju further told Makinde to always reach him directly if he needs anything from him.”
