NAAT Warns FG Against Accepting ASUU’s UTAS by agwom(op): 9:22pm On Dec 06, 2020
The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has warned the federal government against accepting a salary payment platform designed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).

It said the government must not allow itself to be blackmailed by any union to accept the lecturers’ platform, adding that NAAT had also worked assiduously to produce its own platform called Tertiary Institutions Integrity Payroll System (TIIPS).

It would be recalled that the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), had recently notified the government about their separate platform that will serve as an alternative to the controversial Integrated Payroll and Payment Information System (IPPIS) introduced by the Federal Government.

The new platform introduced by SSANU and NASU was University General Peculiar Payroll Payment System (UGPPPS).

Addressing newsmen after its 44th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting during the weekend, President of NAAT, Ibeji Nwokoma, vowed that the association would also resist any attempt where the sharing of the recently approved N40bn Earned Allowance released by the federal government is skewed to favour a particular union to the detriment of its members.

He explained that its members were being owed the sum of N71 billion in arrears as part of the 2009 agreement with the federal government.

According to him, NAAT is also demanding that the sum of N100 billion be made available immediately and N5 billion annually for the next five years to equip laboratories, workshops & studios in the nation’s universities to bring them to international standard in the interest of students, production of quality graduates and National development.

The union leader also criticised the Chairman of the Federal Government Renegotiation Committee, Prof. Munzali Jibrin, over his comment on the sharing of the earned allowance, noting that the former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission has made himself the mouthpiece of ASUU.

He explained that “members of NAAT (Technologists) are trained professionally to impact practical knowledge, but the right atmosphere is not provided, it becomes difficult for Technologists to perform their duties properly.”

He, therefore, called for the immediate auditing of equipment in the University Laboratories, insisting that their position against UTAS does not mean they accepted the controversial IPPIS.

“The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) organized series of meetings to educate unions on the workings of the IPPIS where the Consultant, Infinix demonstrated and produced copies of payslips in which all allowances were said to have been captured with assurances that NAAT peculiarities would be taken care of. Unfortunately, this was not the case as all our allowance contained in the 2009 FGN/NAAT agreement was removed,” he added.

So they warned the FG not to accept ASUU's platform, while equally stating that they had developed a platform of their own. huh
They are also demanding N100 billion. huh
All this is because of ASUU's unrelenting struggle. What sort of witchcraft is this.
I hope someone informs them that even the N70bn that FG promised ASUU, 1penny hasn't been seen.

Idiotic unions. So, for the past one year that ASUU had been in loggerheads with government about miserable IPPIS, your union went ahead to key into it while ASUU suffer hunger throughout those periods.
Did your useless union ever approach government on alternative payroll system before now? ASUU labour to engage government with empty stomach so as to build better payroll platform but your union keep on receiving amputated salaries, mocking ASUU. Now that ASUU is about to win the Fulani war, you want to now reap where you didn't sow. Union without good leaders. Go and Stop UTAS if you can. Awon we re unions NAAT, NASU SANU or sansa. mtwww!

All these so called unions are just concerned their own pockets. Where as, people's lives are at stake! Someone beside me rn is almost approaching his age limit for a scholarship application due to the fact that he can't get some documents from school. Low-key many people who have slow education are getting depressed. It's so unfair!

This is too amazing to be true.
Re: NAAT Warns FG Against Accepting ASUU’s UTAS by amerengues(m):

I found it unthinkable for any union to rear its head out and start dragging this issue with federal Government. ASUU has been tenacious and resilient in their demands. They have suffered physically, financially, emotionally, and psychologically. Their demands, after characteristically holding the Government at the jugular yielded result.

How fair is that one body or association will now come out at this wee hours of the negotiation to steer public distrust, frustration, and commotion. How will ASUU suffer all these while without being paid only for other unions (SANU, NAAT etc) to see the green light and start making phantasmagorical and quixotic claims? Even the Allowance is EAA (Earned Academic Allowance) and not just Earned Allowance. They should fight their battles please. Let Nigerian students resume.

Meanwhile, some of the peculiarities they are clamoring for are universal practice and not just Nigeria. For the records, those oblivious of the truth, Revitalization fund won’t be spent by ASUU (so if they fought for this, it isn’t selfish, it is for the entire students)

And you think if they don't go on strike the FG will listen to them? ASUU have every right, they are fighting in the interest of students, if not because of ASUU do you think everyone will afford to go to higher institution? and look at the dilapidated state of federal universities, the government doesn't give a damn a bit, they only care about syphoning funds, looting everything.

ASUU selfishness is top notched.
If government allow utas for their dubious activities.
Then , government shud prepare for other payment system.
ASUU is the only union that doesn't work but collect all their salary. They got no conscience.
How do they feel collecting all these salaries wen their students are at home, some students even killed.
Upon resumption u ll start seeing some bizzare obituaries of avoidable death, if these students are in school
