Some people are here, don't know what is going on, almost all the airlines you mentioned don't have direct access to China at the moment, the few airlines with access are very expensive.
I hope the guy can solve the issues as soon as possible.
I almost make the same mistake. I'm here to learn and find the easiest way out.

Hello Nairalanders.....A close friend of mine was to return to Nigeria from china early this year but due to covid-19 pandemic decided to stay back a bit till everything was clear...

Fast forward to now after booking for his flight ticket which has a stopover in hongkong,he was denied boarding a plane in Shanghai cos he doesn't have an hongkong transit visa which he never knew of or told and his visa expires in 3days and getting the hongkong transit visa takes 4 weeks.....I didn’t see this on time, tell him if he can come to GX the visa can be extended even if he overstays, the immigration are currently lenient with visas during this period, there’s no lying to be scared about

Please experienced nairaland travellers and guys currently residing in China, please what countries can he has stop-overs or connecting flights to that doesn't require transit visa... .

Pls help urgently so he won't overstay his visa or have issues with Chinese authorities because he is operating under a low budget after expending so much to exorbitant flight tickets rates and other Chinese authorities wahala....


Please I need y'all advice before I book another flight ticket for him before 7am Shanghai time

His ticketing agent can offer him the answer he needs. China to nigeria is a busy route, they should be one flight with one or two stopover thay doesn't need the transit visa...

OP your friend is telling you lies, I think he has other plans. Why would he need a transit visa in china if he is already in china at the airport? I think he has an ulterior motives.

It's better not to respond to things you don't know about. You need a transit visa if you're connecting from Hong Kong and there's no direct flight. Only peace tried that during the evacuation flights and they've stopped.....OP there's automatic two months extension on all visa,I extended my resident permit 6weeks after it expired and there was no problem. Tell your friend to try Kenyan Airways, it flies from Changsha to Nairobi then Lagos

Seems the routes changed due to corona virus wahala plus the ones that don't need transit visas are not having space as the date he plans to fly is so close seems they are fully booked within the days he wants to fly. Na to extend his visa sure pass as it stands.

Transit visa is for that purpose (not leaving the airport but connecting flights) To leave the airport then you need the normal visa.

If he is not in a hurry to come back to Nigeria, let him extend his VISA.
Then, he should carefully search the flight schedules of these airlines that do not need transit VISA through January.

I wonder, they are not telling the truth. One can fly direct non stop from Nigeria to china, so why would he need transit visa in china?

Mmm.. How can one need a transit visa when connecting a flight in the same airport? Just wait at the airport until it is time to board the connection flight, from my understanding, if one wants to leave the airport then one would need a transit visa that would allow one to leave the airport.

Are you suggesting that to wait at the airport (transit) to connect/board a different flight from the same airport one would need a visa? (Transit visa)

Dear op, you can tell your friend to extend his VISA before it expires he can then comfortably search for another flight that will be cheaper and wouln't require a transit VISA

But to extend his visa he has to leave the airport, how can he leave the airport if he has no transit visa? Does that not mean he is stuck at that airport? Or can he extend the visa right there at the airport's arrival before checking out with the Immigrations. Perhaps i am not understanding the process.

According to op, his friend was not allowed to board the plane from Shanghai to Hong-kong because he has no Hong kong VISA. Which, means, he needs to go to the Hong kong embassy or consulate in shanghai to get the VISA

I know Turkey aka Turkish airlines doesn't require transit visa. I don't know if Etihad would need transit visa for naija peeps cos I dint fly them with green pkali so I wouldn't know if its required for Nigerians.
