Oga if you don’t know what to say keep your mouth shut
What do you mean by double taxation
Every organizations with 20million and above as annual profits are liable to pay CIT(Company Income Tax) to FIRS
The same company will pay PAYE to state Government, business premises etc
They also pay business permit to local government

Mr man if you don’t know something ask from experts

xProfx:
The issue of taxation for companies with nationwide branches should be revisited.
All of these banks pay federal taxes, they're still expected to pay state taxes, making it double taxation. I am not a tax expert, but that doesn't seem fair... These are the things that drive the cost of transaction upwards and customers won't understand.

Companies pay their company income tax (company tax) to Federal government via FIRS while it pay Pay As You Earn (PAYE) of its workforce to state. Don't forget there are other taxes and levies apart from the above due to either state and federal authority.

Gt bank is very fvcked up, if ur money ever gets seized by gt bank either tru atm transaction or transfer it's almost impossible getting it back

They should pay their taxes and I like to think they do. However, some of these state government would say one thing, you do it, they say another. Sometimes it looks like when they are broke, they just look for one bank to seal.grin

It's also confusing to me. Maybe tax rate should be reduced if it's too high.

Do they have to pay taxes for only the revenue realised from the branches in those states?

Also what is the percentage? Because at the end of the some of these businesses might just close shop

They're paying residence tax which can be collected by the state IRS

Akwa Ibom state has money. That doesn’t mean they don’t seek ways to generate (more) IGR to fund their numerous white elephant projects.

State government in the SE/SS loves to stress GTBank and I don’t know why. If not for nationwide presence, a lot of branches in such locations would have been shutdown.

How true is this? The bank has lots of issues which includes but not limited to very few branches in a state. For example they have just one operational branch in Owerri. When I was in Umuahia I think it was also just one branch.

If they don't think those regions are viable why not close shop and move to other regions?

They wonder why lots of organizations site their HQs in Lagos? Well, LASG though troublesome have a way of making things seamless.

Organizations siting the HQs in Lagos has less to do with supposed state governments(of other states) stressing them. But more with the way Nigeria presently functions. Lagos is basically the head quarter of Nigeria. Almost every sector. No nationwide business would want to site their headquarters elsewhere leaving out the state where 'things are happening'. It has very little to do with the state government. It's the same reason that brings people from virtually every part of Nigeria to Lagos.

I already mentioned that I'm not a taxation professional so why are you typing trash? Some of you are just rude for nothing...
What I said is not far fetched. I remember vividly same thing happened to another bank in the S/E, I think Fidelity bank and they raised a similar issue.

One of the highest earning CEOs in Nigeria can afford 120m Mercedes. He doesn’t have to sell it to fund the organization’s debt.

Entity concept: Segun Agbaje is different from GTBank. The business is different from the owner(he isn’t even the owner in this case). cheesy

I beg to disagree with you on this, Is there anything wrong in paying Tax? I don't think there's any state in Nigeria that takes the issue of tax more serious than Lagos State..

Banks doesn't pay tax in Lagos. Don't say what u don't know. Banks only pay tax to the federal government. Only local government collect money from banks, money like parking space, environmental/fumigation certificate, business permit within the local government which are even negotiable. Only in south south and southeast u see governors harassing banks

Thank you! I am very sure I know what I am saying. Governors in SE/SS do this a lot. They will just wake one day, come up with one bill and slam the bank with it. Abia State government is the worst of them all.

There are different taxes e.g VAT goes to FG, WHT of a sole proprietorship goes to State, Signage goes to LG depending on the locality.

You will not see where one pays for business premises for instance, to both FG and State or LG.

It's just that the taxes are much and come with different names.

Bank go deduct charges again
Recharge card sellers self go commot their own
