JoeEeL:Read about the greater Sunni/Shia divide. The majority Sunni Muslims of Nigeria see Shiites as infidels. |

The primary responsibility of government is security and welfare of its citizen. When government becomes the ones who are unjustly killing its own citizens, then the country is a failed state. Im an Igbo and a Christian, I dont know much about Shiites or their religion. But it is pure madness for the Nigerian Army to massacre hundreds of Shiites because they blocked the road to the Chief Of Army Staff. What sort of insanity is that? Where is so important that General Burutai was going that can worth the life of anyone? If it were in a sane country that the Army commited such genocide against its own citizens, heads will roll including that of the Chief of Army Staff. You say you have democracy and the rule of law but the Nigerian Army will just take it upon themselves to go and massacre civilians at will. From Odi to Zakibiam, from Obigbo to Lekki toll gate, same story. Extra-judicial killings and military terrorism abound Symbol of a failed state. |

JoeEeL:"Yoruba Muslims" like most Muslims in Nigeria are of the Sunni sect of Islam (although everyone has their own choice and most Yorubas don't care about your religion). Sunni and Shi'ites believe Muhammad chose different successors when he died, because Muhammad outlived all his sons there was no clear heir to lead the new Muslim faithful. This led to several arguments and disputes, which developed into disputes of which rules were correct or not. Because of a greater dispute between Saudi Arabia and Iran, the spiritual homes of Sunni and Shia Islam respectively, there has been a struggle to gain influence all over the world. Nigerian Islamic preachers, scholars and people in high positions see the emergence of Shia Islam in Nigeria as a threat that must be destroyed, lest they lose influence and relevance or the Shias begin persecuting them. As you can see religious disputes in Northern Nigeria are typically settled by violence so the military sees the extermination of Shias as necessary to prevent another Boko Haram (they didn't learn much from the last time). Basically it's two dogs trying to kill each other before the other does, one dog happens to be winning presently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veMFCFyOwFI |

Patrioticman007:Why must Nigeria burn? Why can't you be on your own and let others be? We are not meant to be together. Nigeria is a failed country. |
