Please eh I'm trying to it for my dad but the problem is his National ID card is the old one so they didn't specify the NIN number.
So please is NIN the same as Personal Number?

I think they are moving everyone to the new one. Your dad might need to register for a new national ID to get the unique number.

It is just like the hospital birth certificate and National Population Commission birth certificate. One is more recognised than the other.

Oh, he has registered for the NIN previously with an old phone number? if yes, there might be a way to retrieve the NIN number rather than trying to register a new one.

Just visit the NIN office, with a token of around 500 naira (to be paid into NIN account) and the his details, the will be able to search for it on their database and print a new slip for him containing his NIN number.

I think it is more efficient than other logic processes of trying to search or the long process of trying to retrieve the phone number.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecommunications operators in the country two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

Failure to do so will lead to your line being blocked or disconnected by the 31st of December 2020.

Below are few steps to link your phone number with your NIN;

For MTN users, simply dial *785# and get it done in few seconds or

Visit https://mtnonline.com/nim/ using your phone or computer

Complete the NIN linking form by entering your name, phone number, NIN, and email address.

Submit the form as soon as you’re done.

Wait for feedback from the network.

Airtel Users

To link your NIN to your Airtel phone number, follow the steps below:

1. Dial *121*1# on the Airtel line you wish to link.

2. Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send.

3. Enter your 11-digit NIN and send.

Wait for the message confirming your submission. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again.
You can also visit https://www.airtel.com.ng/nin to have it done online.

Other networks (Glo and 9mobile)

For other lines, simply visit the nearest office of your service provider (be it Glo, 9mobile) to register/link your NIN.

Just go along with NIN and your SIM pack. If you do not have your SIM pack, you probably should be prepared to swear an affidavit.

To be on the safer side, you can call your service provider’s customer care.

Hello bro. Registered with the NIMC 6 years ago, so I've always had an NIN. Just successfully linked it to my SIMs. It showed successful, but said still subject to verification by the NIMC. what does that mean?

First, I no be NIMC or any operator official o smiley
But as to your question, I believe it means that the network have received and stored your NIN on their own database but they are yet to verify it with the authentic NIMC database.
If the network operators eventually try to verify your NIN with the database of NIMC and it returns null, then your submission will be null and void (useless) embarassed
Things I think could make the verification return null include disparity in your NIMC names and names on your SIM, disparity in ages/DOB, etc

lol . I know say you just be tatafo on top the matter. smiley
I haven't been paying much attention to this thing, and different talks here and there so I just needed some legit info. I am certain there are no disparities whatsoever, even my slip is still in order. I just dread the idea of going to queue somewhere. Thanks bro!
