Truck Engineer Apprenticeship: Aba Or Uyo by BrainEya(m): 9:38am On Dec 20, 2020
As this year is about running out couple with today being my day, I brought this before you guys for your input because your opinion will take me a long way in this journey I'm about to start...

Let me detail myself, I'm 21 with small statue - I look a bit smaller than my age and that makes some people feel they can take advantage of me with out me reacting. I used my head when faced with challenge than my body..

Back to my reason I brought up this post - I've work myself out this year gathering money in preparation of me acquiring skill (Truck Engineering).
What's bordering me now is the location I'll go for because I'm faced with two places now.

Uyo now

That's my my state capital. I have many relatives there. I have a feeling that if they know my plan, they might suggest that I stay with them during my apprenticeship which I'm not comfortable with - I want to rent one room and stay alone..

They will monitor my stay within the state and not willing to help if any issue arise, if at all I stay on my own within the state..("He did not want to stay with me, he should face whatever he encounter" will be their chant)

ABA now

I want to stay in Aba. Not too near and not too far but I have no relative there.
I will focus more there than in Uyo.
Aba will act like a hub - Mbaise, PH and Uyo..

The main part is I want to learn work in a construction company that will open door in having knowledge about many machine..
In Uyo, I know Nsik engineering company but in Aba I don't know of any construction company ( please if you know any inform me).

Please your advice will go a long way.

I will be open to any question...
Note: My elder Brother drives truck and he suggest linking me with one of his friend that is an engineer in my state.
I told him that I want ABA in guise that I want to learn new language..

Autojosh crazyman
lasticlacla please help me get wider view on this...

Thanks

With the information you've shared, you seem to have your decision making made easy already.
Since you know you don't want to stay in Uyo, what you should be thinking of is how to make the Aba plan work.

Start looking for contacts there through the people you know. Both for the skill acquisition and accommodation. Give yourself time to gather a few options to decide from.

I quite agree that leaving from your comfort zone will be better for you professionally in the long term.

I like your choice of vocation, it's one of those areas people neglect and the few in it make serious money from it. I always intrigued by diesel engines.

Since your brother is a trucker, let him make inquires from his fellow truckers, about a good mechanic in Aba, while there, you may move on to an even better place once you settle down & discover a better place to learn.

I urge you to be focused & hardworking. It pays on the long run.

Why do you feel they will monitor your stay? These are your relatives, they probably have more important things to deal with...if you have a sure internship there accept it, rent a place and after some few months inform them about your internship and that you're already settled in and comfortable

Nsik Engineering company then it was free to learn from them but I was advice not to because they might not likely show me the necessary things I need to know since it's free - meaning I might likely act as their messenger...

Thank you sir.

I know my people more than you think (may be I'm just stressing the issue)..
If I tell them that I want to rent a room for myself in Uyo, they might insist that I keep the money for something else ( add money and set my self up or buy tools after my apprenticeship... ) They think I'm too small to leave alone..

The plan is to pay, settle in then inform them you're in town after like 3 months after starting....if you were to be in uni you will be living alone at 21

but fair enough, you know your own people...before joining up with a firm please find out properly what they offer so you don't become disillusioned few months into it. Good luck

Is it truck mechanic or nothing? How about car mechanic? Either ... I'll advise you learn from certified mechanics..... and those that repair newer model vehicles. If not... you'll learn to be a trial and error roadside mechanic specializing in old cars. Since you have the passion.... and are willing to live alone... I suggest you go to Car Section and contact GAZUZZ .... think at one time he offered to train a few Nairalanders for free. If you can ot will be a great opportunity.... specialize in one sector of auto repairs... e.g overheating.... you can build a successful career on that.
