Nigerians don't hustle.

Selling brooms in the traffic doesn't develop an economy.
What does?

Give dem credit for having the energy to file petitions in the UK during a pandemic and Brexit. Meanwhile many back home in the fatherland (9ja) are complaining of hunger and wishing for the latest distribution of palliatives. Why not send more help home? Quite a few on NL complain of inadequate stomach infrastructure (the poverty stricken) but always seem to have phone data credit, and know all the latest yeye celebrity news. cheesy
Big noise last month about a petition to sanction Naija came and went like a rain storm. wink

Correction, is still a very wealthy nation...

For instance, only a very wealthy nation can comfortably sustain the salary budget of the legislature applicable in Nigeria for over 20yrs and not be in perpetual recession especially during Pandemics...
We really dont know the definition of the word "WEALTHY".
Please what you said above is untrue.
Nigeria is no where a wealthy nation. A country with a gdp per capita of around $2k - $5k is no where near wealthy. I guess we should reconsider our choice of words sometimes.
I am not sure what you mean by perpetual recession because Nigeria is already in recession and we're partly saved by borrowing from IMF

Figure of speech.

Not neccessarily broom. Infact, forget about broom.
Let's take it literally.
The guy selling broom is engaged in an economic activity. So I fail to see why deride a man's hustle when you can't engage him in a better one.

China was never a poor nation.

A country that gave you gunpowder, paper, paper money could never be poor.

Granted, moving from a isolationist to capitalist economy spurred rapid growth and equitable distribution of wealth, it a a disservice to years and years of invention and innovation about the Chinese people if you believe the western hype.
From you assertion Africa was never poor also... Africa also invented things and had established trade routes to Europe, Asia and even the Caribbeans.....

Back to China...

From what you inferred, with the technological prowess of China, the government still sat down observed what is wrong with their beloved nation and saw that ISOLATIONISM was their problem and CAPITALISM was the solution and immediately sprung into action. And for less than 20 years the Nation is tending towards untold greatness...... Our leaders don't even care.....

What does?
Good question.

This is the age of information.

Information and access to it should lead to innovation and invention.

A society that abhors science, denigrates research, eschews productivity whilst being totally vested in politics and tribal sentiments would be left behind.

For everyday the Nigerian spends on frivolities rather than create for local and international consumption, the chasm between wishes and reality widens.

Nigerians need to produce, produce, produce.

Produce what the world needs to bring in forex, produce what the world needs to drive unemployment.

Avoid the primitive predilection common in our ways.

Spend more time in research and less time in hoping.

Spend more time in developing and less time in praying.
Spend more time in doing rather than complaining.

Do you expect UK government to openly indict themselves? They are very much aware of the shaddy deals and corruption in Nigeria but since it does not threaten their business, why border. Its easier to deal with a corrupt government afterall.

A UK prime minister once called Nigeria "fantastically corrupt"

If you believe the broom which I used symbolically is good enough to transform Nigeria then I'll say therein lies the problem.

I rest my case.

This is a basic problem of the average Nigerian. Armchair analysis picked on the street.

May I ask that you show us the Orville brothers' research labs that led to the airplane?

Before you mouthed your mumbo jumbo, you should have sat back and looked at where information age cropped out from.

But I digress. Your denigration of the broom market can also be a justification for denigrating the coffee merchants or something a lot of Nigerians are involved in overseas, home care aka babysitting. The two are not productive activities if we are to apply your logic. If a broom merchant sells, makes a profit and pays tax and vat, I daresay he might be more productive than you are in the long run.

That said, you can furnish us with evidence that the Nigerian society abhors science or is more political than the US or UK.

You can also show us how you've applied your homily to your very self and the productivity it brought forth.

No. That's not my assertion. My assertion is that no productive activity is better than the other. For example, America's music industry generates more money than Nigeria's oil industry.

The stockfish industry in Norway also generates more money than road construction does in Nigeria.

So you see now that your assertion is basically flawed to start with.

They even advised the fed. Gov. To do that they did at Ajah toll gate. That's why they've been playing a merry go round

Of course you can write a thesis on how the broom market is the platform upon which a country can attain greatness if you so desire.

Wahala. Some people will just form a group, sit down in a beer parlour and claim to be writing on behalf of millions of Nigerians.
But they did the right thing.
Corruption is serious.

If true, Gowon should be held accountable, and if untrue, UK should tender an apology.

If your parents had done that in their time, NIgeria would not be a corruption hive it is today.

Obasanjo has been silence since this accussation against General Gowon came up.

Maybe Obasanjo should speak on the matter.

It was Obasanjo government that ruled after Gowon government was ousted while attending OAU summit meeting in Kampala, Uganda.

Their former PM called Nigeria a fantastically corrupt country.

And now one of their MP is accusing a former head of State of looting the CBN.

I am surprised that Nigerians are not taking It seriously.
