We don’t understand why COVID-19 numbers have not been as high as predicted in Africa – Bill Gates Bill Gates, a co-founder of Microsoft and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), has said that he does not understand why coronavirus numbers have not been as high as predicted in Africa. Recall that Gates and his wife, Melinda had in more than one occasion, warned that there will be dead bodies all over the streets of Africa if the world does not act fast enough. Melinda said her heart was in Africa, adding that she is worried that the continent might not be able to handle the devastating effect of the virus. But in his end of the year note, Bill said he was happy his prediction about Africa has not happened, “One thing I’m happy to have been wrong about—at least, I hope I was wrong—is my fear that COVID-19 would run rampant in low-income countries. So far, this hasn’t been true,” he wrote. The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had last week announced a second wave of the dreaded virus. The Federal Government on Tuesday directed civil servants from grade level 12 and below to stay at home. They are to remain at home for five weeks following the second wave of the COVID-19 disease in Nigeria. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Friday stated that COVID-19 related deaths now stands at 1,246. Nigeria currently has a total of 82,747 confirmed cases in the country. The truth is covid-19 pandemic in Africa is a scam. Africa as a continent has its challenges (that is poverty, hunger, insecurity, corruption, jealousy & wickedness etc) but we are blessed for not having natural disasters & pandemics that ravage other developed climes. That being said, I urge the Federal government to stop copying Europe with their 2nd wave covid shît & trying to lockdown our already fragile economy again. LET THE WESTERN COUNTRIES CARRY THEIR CROSS ALONE WHILE WE CARRY OURS ALONE. 24 Likes 3 Shares |

Impotence of COVID-19 in Africa is actually the biggest mystery of 2020. But people ain't talking much about it because it is Africa. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Every enlightened person seeing how covid-19 affected developed countries would have predicted the same for Africa. Africa has poor health facilities. This is a fact!! It is good news that Africa wasn't hit as predicted. “We don’t have enough data yet to understand why the numbers aren’t as high as I worried they would get — but gave probable reasons Africa was not as affected as expected.” None of African scientists have given scientific reasons why Africa was not affected so much. Second wave is on right now. What's our plan? Good to give thanks to God. But there are Christians in developed countries that are currently under severe attack by covid-19. Africans need to desist from emotions and use logic in solving problems. 4 Likes |

so many persons in Nigeria contracted covid, only that it only manifests as a slight cold with some cases loss of taste and smell. the mystery is why Africans are so immune to covid. |

Robert1da: You're missing the point. In fact your point actually shores up Gate's astoundment. Most intelligent analyst know Africa is massively undertested meaning actual covid-19 transmission is likely much higher than reported. Even with that, Africa is not devastated. If Gate's and co are not trying to complicate what should be simple, they would know the immunology quality of vitamin D that most Africans get more than enough of from natural sunlight. Also Influenza viruses, regardless of what anyone says, are less potent in very hot climate. Without complicating the science involved, Covid-19 is a flu variant which becomes dangerous because of lower chest involvement, i.e lungs, whereas most influenza virus will attack the upper chest i.e above the lungs. I would actually posit that as many as millions have had covid-19 virus in Nigeria rather than the under 90k cases officially reported. Symptoms in most folks are probably so mild, with even many of us asymptomatic, that no test was sought by most Nigerians. It is not Rocket science and our leaders always await direction from the West. Otherwise we should have hinged our own fight on covid-19 with an acceptance of the protective qualities our hot climate and vitamin D assimilation from sunlight affords us. This way we could have cashed in with fully active economies that run parallel with our own covid-19 reality instead of panicking and shutting down when the West does when they actually have a totally different disease load and potency to that Africa is experiencing. African solutions to African problems is still a concept very alien to many Africans and their leaders. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2017/02/study-confirms-vitamin-d-protects-against-cold-and-flu/ vitamin D supplementation can help protect against acute respiratory infections. The study, a participant data meta-analysis of 25 randomized controlled trials including more than 11,000 participants, has been published online in The BMJ. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Re: We Don’t Know Why COVID-19 Have Not Been High As Predicted In Africa- Bill Gate by Nobody: 10:51am On Dec 27, 2020 |
fr3do: Indeed. the mystery is why Africans are so immune to covid. Not such a mystery. Africans have good immune resistance/response to the virus likely because they naturally get vitamin D from sunlight. Secondly, most influenza viruses, which covid-19 is, thrive and spread quicker in colder climates. The very hot weather of most African nations prohibits rampant spread of the disease on the continent. 1 Like |

thebosstrevor1: He gave his opinion which, if inspected dispassionately with even the most laymen of scientific knowledge, makes perfect sense. We under-test massively in Nigeria and we live in extremely cramped and overcrowded communities which means the virus would have devasted and crippled Nigeria, as Melinda Gates logically believed it would, if the Nigerian people did not naturally have immune systems that is primed to resist and easily beat covid-19. My opinion is that likely millions of Nigerians have had unnoticed covid-19 with the emphasis on the word unnoticed. 1 Like |

Our weather has been an added advantage, it contributed heavenly. Moreso, Hypocrisy apart, AFTER SHUTTING OUR AIR, FG (Nigeria) has been managing covid-19 very well. That's why we were rated (had pass mark) ahead of US. Same applied to other African countries |

candidtalk: There is no evidence that you hypothesis is correct. The infection rate is low even with the low testing, apparently, Nigeria tested 3000 people per day but only 300 people were infected with sometimes 1 or no death. |

LIIU: Not a fan but Bello is 100% right that covid-19 is a marketing strategy in Nigeria certainly. If not, why is the Government not trying to forge ahead with a solution based on our own unique and fairly mild experience with the virus after almost a year of living with it in our cramped and very overcrowded communities? By Feb 2021, Nigeria would have been dealing with covid-19 for a year now. More than enough time for us to have fashioned a unique approach based on how covid affects us in Nigeria and Africa rather than always sneezing automatically when USA and Europe catches a covid cold. Why always trying to paint the picture we are in the same situation as USA or Europe if not that some have realized that this is an opportunity to cash in and rake in billions through unjustifiable scaremongering ? 1 Like |
