mastro:All Peugeot 505 GL's were fitted with a twin Solex carburettor as standard, the intake manifold was different to that for singles. You must remember, we're talking Nigeria. As all the Peugeot engines were interchangeable between all RWD models - 404, 504, 505 and 604, most cars today will most likely be sporting a replacement engine. If your brother's 504 GL wouldn't accept a twin Solex, then it was running the wrong engine. Either a 404 or 504 L/GR motor, which all had a single Solex as standard. The only way to fit a twin would mean changing the inlet manifold for the GL one. Now hardly any Nigerian mechanics would bother. As long as the engine runs, that's where their work ends. The twin Solex had an oblong-shaped mounting base, with four 12mm nuts. The single Solex had a diamond-shaped base, with two 12mm nuts. |
