Doyin Okupe stated this during an interview while addressing the issue of Nigeria’s obsolete trains.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe has said that Nigeria can’t purchase new trains because its economy can’t support them.

Okupe stated this during an interview on Sahara TV while addressing the issue of Nigeria’s obsolete trains.

Forget it. We are not America. You cannot have brand new trains because the economy cannot support that,” Okupe said.

Jonathan’s administration frequently touts the current train system in Nigeria as one of its most notable achievements

When this mab made the statement, oil was selling for $100/barrel.

Fast forward to 2020 with oil is selling for as low as $30, we built new 156km railway from scratch with new trains.

Yes, he is right. That's why Buhari went to China to get a loan for. A loan that he & his dull VP can't pay back.

Nigeria made over N51 Trillion under GEJ, more than any president in the history of Nigeria so please explain to us why they couldn't built Lagos Ibadan railway with new trains since they had enough money and didn't have to borrow 1 kobo?

The $2.3 billion GEK and Okonjo stole and gave to Dasuki to share with their crooked and corrupt cronies was more than enough to build 2, I repeat, 2 Lagos Ibadan Railway without borrowing 1 kobo.

Btw, was GEJ not borrowing hundreds of billions every month to pay workers salary till his last week in office?

It is not by force to comment, some of you need to learn how to keep quiet sometimes.

I hope and pray that people like you are not allowed anywhere near any seat of government or decision making body because you

Which loan, IMF advised the government against taking more loans & that was why Buhari went to China because IMF weren't willing to give the loan.

Besides, the train started in GEJ government but was going to take a long time to be completed without loan.

TheCable findings showed that indeed the former president took loans to finance a rail project during his time in office.

According to documents obtained from the Debt Management Office (DMO), the Jonathan administration signed six loan deals with China, including the one used in financing part of Abuja-Kaduna rail project.

Part of the project, which Jonathan flagged off in February 2011, was financed with a loan of $500 million from the Exim Bank of China.

GEJ borrowed money from China to finance rail projects and he still borrowed hundreds of billions every month to pay workers salaries so what's your point?

You need to educate yourself and stop spewing ignorant rubbish.

So, Nigeria couldn't afford to borrow for infrastructure, but it could borrow the equivalent of a billion dollars to pay salaries during GEJ administration?

GEJ was subsidizing PMS at that time & with a lot of our yearly budget on recurrent expenditure, a train will be too expensive.

Although, the government started the project but was going to take a lot years to reach completion (without loan).
