President Muhammadu Buhari says sustainable development is impossible when a country is hobbled by severe infrastructural deficits.

The President spoke at State House, Abuja, while receiving in audience Mr. Wang Yi, the State Councillor and Foreign Minister, People’s Republic of China President Buhari thanked China for its support to the country in building of rail, road, power, defence, and many others to reduce our severe infrastructural deficits in the country.

He pledged that Nigeria would continue to honor its obligations in the relationship with the People’s Republic of China.

Mr. Wang Yi applauded what he called the mutual trust and sound personal friendship between President Buhari and President Xi Jinping of China, noting that it has guided the bilateral relationship between our two countries.

He didn't ask himself how much of Nigeria's help China(or any other country) used to become what she is today.

I'm not enviably good at History, but from my residual knowledge, China didn't throw herself upon any country for her national progress as much as Nigeria does. Just as Japan introduced the nation-boosting long-term Ikeda plan, China rallied for her own development using local intellectual and human resources.


As long as Nigeria thinks her growth is in the hands of an Oriental nation, we're still not close to utilizing our own brains and resources for nation building.
