First of all, it is undisputed that there is more money and a lot more economic activity, more credit etc in the US than in Canada simply because it is a population of 300 million vs just 36 million. The 52 States of America are bona fide countries on their own that joined the federation compared to Canada thats just one country- so US is undisputed and better in terms of economic activity. Salaries in some sectors are also higher in america. But you dont need all that activity to provide for you and your family... you just need a decent paying job which you can find in Canada. Other reasons: - Gun control - no fear of mass shootings - the last one that occurred in Canada resulted in a ban on assault style rifles in Canada. - Quality of Life - very few poor or run down neighbourhoods compared to US. - Easy access to the United States - you don't have to live in the US to take advantage of the economic activity there - for example a bus will take you from Toronto through up state new york through to NYC. There are busses to Pittsburg and I think Chicago too. There are direct flights too. In fact as part of the perimeter security deal, US/ Canada is treated as one country for flights. - No police brutality - or at least very low. - In my opinion the least racist immigrant destination. - No snow (or very little) in British Columbia. |

You can add healthcare, sane politics, nicer people. Overall, I tell people that if you are a hustler, or want fun bubbling society, US is a better choice. But if you want a quiet peaceful lifestyle with better quality of life, Canada should be your destination. |

BigBashiru:I had the choice between canada and US when I migrated, so I had to do a lot of studies on both countries and so far, I think I made a good choice. |

Absolutely no need to try to justify one choice over the other. The simple truth is that Canada became more attractive to Nigerians when the US tightened up their immigration policies and it became extremely difficult for Nigerians to get in. It's all relative. However, given a free choice, most Nigerian professionals will most likely prefer the US just like most others that immigrate from the Western world.A large number of Nigerians in the healthcare sector used Canada and the U.K. as a stepping stone to get to the US in the past. Not so easy now. |
