Wow I never knew there were other options, I remember when my gum overlap my tooth and it was grazing when I chew, the dentist said they could surgically tear off the part of the gum overlapping or extraction, which I opt for extraction and it was the most uncomfortable moment of my life.
Not all bad tooth are candidates for an RCT..
You mostly likely had Pericoronitis of the wisdom tooth..
RCTs are not done on wisdom teeth..

The problem doesn't end when you get rid of the infected tooth, you have to get rid of the worms disturbing the tooth nd not the tooth itself, why do you think the problem persists after removing the infected tooth, it's because, the worms are still living in there and will immediately start feasting on a new one, once their host has been taken, this new one takes time before one starts to notice, by the time it has eaten deep into the infected tooth is when you start to feel the pain, stop removing your tooth, or else you'll end up removing more than two, because the worms disturbing the tooth is still alive, been battling with mine since primary sch till date, herbs is all I've been using for it, now the affected tooth is breaking by itself, I hardly feel the pains. We do not remove our head simply because we are suffering from headache, rather we use drugs for it, why not apply same method you use in treating headache even though this one is different, the pain is out of this world, very wicked thing.

Aunty patrica, there is no worm in your tooth abeg grin grin grin

There are alot of factors to consider before opting for a root canal treatment.
They are
1. Cost: Root canal is not a cheap procedure and after its completion the tooth needs to be crowned(capped). This ideally in a govt hospital cost nothing less than 50k in Nigeria. Also it requires multiple visits.
2. Availability of equipment: Some centers don't have x-ray machines and an ideal root canal treatment requires minimum of four x-rays. This may make it impossible to carry out.
3. Tooth health status: Not all teeth are restorable. Many are badly broken down so much that the prognosis for a root canal treatment may be very poor.
4. Tooth support: the bony support for a tooth may be inadequate to hold a tooth and root canal may not be feasible......

I am currently in a delima state. I went for an extraction last week Thursday, the anastatial given to me did not work. Hence, when the dentist was working around the tooth, she eventually broke it. Now I have to pay #40k for a full sedation for the extraction.
Since that Thursday till date, chewing food is like a punishment.
If only for this reason, God PLEASE TAKE ME OUT OF THIS CONTINENT TO A BETER PLACE WEHER ACHIEVING MAJOR THINGS IN LIFE, PAYING FOR HOSPITAL BILLS WILL NOT LOOK LIKE A DEAT SENTENCE.
I beg, I won go CANADA. I NEED SPONSORSHIP. To pay you back in THREE fold!

My experience with those Dentists wasn't funny.

I went to the teaching hospital in Ondo state for my tooth that ached me all night. He looked at it and told me he was going to extract it, but requested that I must go do a tooth scan in shoprite first. He insisted It must be shoprite and even gave me a paper to take there. why shoprite?

Las-las, dem remove my tooth o

Lol..where do they scan in Shoprite?

Same here, we don't remove teeth. I just placed a tablet of aspirin on the affected tooth and the pain will stop. Now the affected teeth is breaking, I can even chew a bone with the remaining breaked teeth.

Do Root canal right away? Wow!!

Such should not even be carried out without a Blood Pressure test let a lone someone coming in just for a checkup or pains from a tooth issue.

if you have slightly above normal BP , carrying out a root canal can aggravate that and result to cardiac arrest or other complications because of severe pain.

But here in Nigeria. I have never seen a dentist except in Teaching Hospitals and some select Dentist who would require you go home first, rest, relax and come back a day or 2 later to carry out such procedures when you have stabilized.

The number of people who have lost their lives to doctors not following procedures is quite high. We don't have litigations and rarely carry out autopsies so most get away from losts of things
