it happened to me too I wanted to buy a gen that can power AC I had spg3000 in mind but I later got the spg4000 along with 1hp lg inverter AC it worked well for about 5 months before piston and rings became bad I changed it did not last for long eventually I gave the generator out and got a tec generator main reason why I got the Gen is because I have a friend using it for over a year now to power his 1.5hp AC for over a year and no fault. I took a pic of the load chart as inscribed on the Generator

In your estimation, is it advisable to service/change the piston and ring or just buy a new generator.
My elepaq 1.8kva is consuming oil and soot covers the engine block as well as the exhaust. I was advised to work on the piston and rings.
The generator was serving me excellently from 2017-2019. The issues started because rain is beating it in the current location.

I've been considering a higher generator 3.3 - 4.5kva and elepaq and sumec have been high on the radar based on budget. It seems sumec is less noisy than elepaq.
I'm having doubt of the elepaq because the 4.5kva is about 100-120k while the 3.3kva sumec is 120k. Anyone with experience using elepaq SV6800, 7200,8500, 7800 E2 series?

Sumec is more expensive. However, I have a friend that'sbeen using Elepaq SV6800 for over a year now and it's been good. I also just got one and the experience has been great so far.

Which is better please LG Maxi 4KVA Key-Start Generator EK33(N138,000 - JUMIA) or ELEPAQ 4.5VA KEY STARTER (N99,000 - JUMIA).

Load options
It will power a refrigerator (Most likely an inverter one)
A standing fan (big or medium OX fan)
Two ceiling fans
Future Inverter AC
LED BULBS
LED TV
and other small home equipment (when needed)

Also is this Elepaq gen on Jumia Ok for purchase?

ABEG, I need to make a purchase ASAP
Thanks

I have been using Maxi EK28 since May 2020, and so far no issues. Fuel consumption isn't bad either. I normally service the generator every 200 hours with Castrol 10w 40. The 1 litre can retails at 2,800.

And always buy from LG show room.

you can change piston and rings once if it develops fault again you can go for half engine but make sure you don't stress the Generator and as for the elepaq there are some good reviews here from Akell and suco01 you can ask them for more info about the Gen

200 hours shocked, don't you think it's too much for the generator? Oil should have lost almost all its properties by then, even 100 hours is much already.

Nigeria Inverter Buying Guide
Power outages are frequent in Nigeria, and a suitable inverter and battery can be priceless during such events. It can be very frustrating when you are watching your favourite program on TV, and everything suddenly goes black. With an inverter and battery, you can have uninterrupted power supply without the noise and pollution of a generator.

But how do you choose the right ones? Which factors are essential to consider when buying an inverter and battery in Nigeria.

There are thousands of branded inverters and batteries on the Nigerian market. If you choose an inverter and battery combination with the wrong specification for your Use Case, you could end up with a costly mess.

The Nigeria inverter buying guide will arm you with the information you need to make the right choice for your circumstances.

Inverter Type
There are two primary types of inverters available on the market: Modified Sine Wave and Pure Sine Wave. If you wish to power small household appliances like lights, TV,s and fans, Modified Sine Wave inverters are affordable and have high efficiency. They will provide you with power comparable (but not identical) to what you get from NEPA.

If you would like to run larger appliances like a fridge, freezer, AC or medical equipment you should buy a Pure Sine Wave inverter. They are ideal for motor startups, make little or no noise and give power quality equivalent to what you get from NEPA; however, Pure Sine Wave inverter can cost twice as much as an equivalent Modified Sine Wave Inverter

Inverter Size
To choose the right inverter size for your needs, calculate the total wattage of all the electrical appliances you would like to run on the inverter. You will find the wattage of your machine by checking the power rating label located on each device or by reading the user manual and adding up the total wattage. If you wish to keep your total cost down, it is advisable to run only your essential appliances on the inverter. The following is an example:

Equipment Common Energy Consumption in Watts
Laptop 20W
Ceiling Fan 50W
DSTV 20W
Televisions 150W
Desktop Computer 85W
4 Energy Saving Bulbs 60W
TOTAL 385W
We recommend that you buy an inverter twice the size of your total energy requirements so that you have extra capacity and do not run the risk of overloading your inverter.

Battery Bank
Batteries are required to store energy from NEPA, Generator or a renewable energy source, e.g. solarxx panels. Batteries are an essential part of any power backup system, and the performance and longevity of your inverter system will mainly be dependent on the quality of the batteries you use.

The voltage requirements of your inverter will determine the minimum required size of your battery bank. A 12-volt inverter, for example, requires 12 volts and will work if you connect it to a single 12v battery. A 24-volt inverter will require 24 volts, which you can achieve by connecting two 12 volt batteries in series.

Think of a battery like a bucket of energy. It will only hold a certain amount, and no amount of praying and hoping will make it hold more. Battery capacities are given in Ampere Hour (AH), explicitly indicating the inverter’s current supply rate per hour of operation, for instance, a 200 AH inverter battery can deliver 200AH of current for every 60 minutes of activities.

The most common inverter battery capacities available in Nigeria are 12v 100AH and 200AH.

The minimum required battery bank size may or may not be enough to meet your needs. You can determine the correct sizing for your home by using the Mercury Battery Backup Time Calculator following formula.

Amp rating of battery x inverter voltage (assuming 80% efficiency and depth of discharge ) ÷ total load wattage.

Example:

200ah (Amp rating of battery) x 24v (Voltage of inverter) assuming 80% efficiency and depth of discharge ÷ 385 watts (Load) = approximately 7 hours.

The above is the result of a continuous 385 watts load; in reality, the backup time could be increased significantly by managing the number of appliances you have on at any given time. For example, you may decide to only turn on your TV when your favourite programs are on.

Adopting such a disciplined approach could save you a substantial amount of money. You can start with a small battery bank and add more batteries later on if your requirements change. We do not charge for installation, so long as you purchase your system components from mercurydirect.com.ng.

Battery Type
Even though inverters can run on lead-acid batteries, those typically used in vehicles are not compatible with inverters because those types of batteries are built for delivering exceptionally high currents for short periods, for example, starting the ignitions of vehicles.

Dry Cell Deep Cycle Inverter batteries are convenient for inverter system use because they require absolutely no maintenance. These types of batteries are perfect for home or-or small office applications where regular battery maintenance is not feasible. Unlike Wet Cell Deep Cycle batteries they can be left sitting around for long periods without use, with no detriment to performance.

Tubular Wet Cell Deep Cycle batteries come equipped with sophisticated designs, which ensure excellent electrical efficiency and increased lifespan. They can often go on working for ten years or more; however, they can be costly to maintain and should not be left sitting around for long periods without use. Like the muscles of the body, they need regular use to maintain optimal performance.

They come with caps which you will have to remove every 6 to 12 months to add distilled water, and they need to be in a well-ventilated area.

Inverter Battery Brands
There are a lot of inverter battery brands available on the Nigerian market. The problem is that the majority of these batteries are relatively low-quality compared to those from dedicated inverter battery manufacturers. This is why most experts recommend investing in a battery from reputable manufacturers such as Mercury, Prag. and Luminous

Inverter Efficiency and Battery Charging

Efficient inverters like the ones sold on mercurydirect.com.ng draw minimum energy from your distro or gen to fully charge your batteries, while non-energy efficient types waste a significant amount of energy during charging sessions, leading to high NEPA bills.

Warranties and Guarantees
A warranty simply means the manufacturer will be willing to provide maintenance and repair of individual components for a specific number of years or months if a malfunction occurs, while a guarantee stipulates a brand new replacement if faulty.

Due to the high cost of Deep Cycles batteries, we recommend that you invest in a brand new unit so you can take advantage of the guarantee and warranty, should there be a malfunction. Mercury batteries are sold with a one year guarantee and warranty, meaning you will get a new replacement in the unlikely event your batteries become faulty within the first year. If you must buy, go to reputable stores. This is not even up to 3kva but the seller is advertising 4kva, that alone is a red flag.

This is 2.5KVA. Why is the seller misleading intending buyers?

Put on your clothes and shoes, board a taxi and find yourself a reputable store nearby. When you get there, buy.

However, when they unbox your gen, tell them to turn it upside down. You should be able to see the coil, make sure it's copper, 100% copper.

Cheers!

Aside buying a good generator, a good engine oil is also advised. We need to stop buying from roadside, diluted oils. They spoil the engine in not time.

Follow the oil type recommended for your generator. In this article, I'll use the SAE 10W 30 as a template being the oil recommended for my Elepaq SV6800.

What does the word SAE stand for?

It means Society of Automotive Engineers.

The 10W30 designation on engine oil means that the viscosity of the oil is rated at 10W when an engine is cold and 30 when the engine is hot. This is different from an oil labelled 5W30, which has a thinner viscosity when the engine is cold at 5W.

Why a Viscosity Scale is Important

In order to have a standard way to measure the viscosity of engine oil, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) developed a viscosity scale. The scale ranges from 0W, which is the thinnest type of oil, to a rating of 60, which is the thickest oil.

The “W” that you see on oil labels stands for the word winter because this portion of the label shows the viscosity level of oil when an engine is cold.

Motor oil that is thinner can flow more easily and faster. This is important because when you start a cold engine, the oil needs to lubricate the equipment quickly. A low viscosity motor oil allows it to do that. On the other hand, when the engine is hot, you don’t want your motor oil to be too thin. Thus, the higher viscosity or thicker oil keeps all the engine parts well lubricated and separated.

How Oil Affects Equipment
Although understanding oil viscosity is important in solid fleet maintenance, oil viscosity also affects the performance of a wide range of industrial equipment. For example, viscosity can increase or decrease the heat created by bearings and cylinders. Viscosity can also affect how quickly oil is consumed and how easily equipment can be started and operated in extreme temperatures.

When the oil has a higher viscosity or is thicker at warm temperatures, you will use less oil and experience less wear and tear on your vehicles or equipment. However, a thinner viscosity oil can help improve the start-up of a piece of equipment as well as reduce fuel usage.

Inappropriate oil viscosity can result in occasional contact between machine components. When this goes unchecked, you’ll start experiencing damage and problems with equipment. As a result, it’s important to not only select the right type of oil for each application but also to conduct regular oil changes in your preventive maintenance program.
