That is called due process where institutions work. That will go a long way to show that one will always be held accountable for one's action.

The impeachment trial is to banned him from ever holding office. Since he is a 1 term president , under the constitution he can still run in 2024 for the presidency.

If the impeachment trial goes through, he won't be able to either run in 2024 or hold any political office

An impeachment trial or conviction will deter future US Presidents from doing something horribly bad, hours or days before leaving office. There need to be some form of punishment for anyone who incites or instigate a mob against lawmakers. There may not be Republican senators who will vote to convict him but Donald Trump's empire and legacy may have been tarnished irredeemably.
