The prey could neither outrun the leopard nor defeat it in a combat. One would then wonder why the leopard had to put up a show first before grabbing its meal. Well, there's no telling for sure what these beasts were thinking. Usually, animal lovers like myself would come up with theories based on past observations or behaviors studied over time. In my opinion, I don't really think it was just antics as the OP termed it, I believe the predator already considered the prey dead and ready to be eaten, and therefore felt no need to be aggressive.

After an aggressive chase, these big cats normal settle down to enjoy thier meal the moment it's incapacitated (regardless of the fact that it might still be alive). They carefully but quickly scout the environment for scavengers and then either start eating their catch or drag it to a safer place. The leopard above didn't get enough movement from it's prey to trigger its aggressive instincts. The touching was just to measure the prey's skittishness (which in turn tells it the amount of life left in it) and since the prey didn't make any move, it quickly moved to the second phase which is observing the environment to figure out if the meal could be eaten there or should be taken to a more secure location. Even domestic cats do this.

From time to time, nature finds unique ways of sending out messages from time to time.

Some occurrences which take place in the animal kingdom leave us in total awe as to how even animals can do such and how well we can relate to them.


Humans tend to consider themselves higher animals and so are expected to display a higher level of understanding, feelings and abilities that set them aside from animals especially, the wild life.

However, some humans take actions which are typical of animals and a set of photos found online has gotten people buzzing about how much they can not only relate to it but also pick a lesson from it.

In the first picture below, a leaopard which happens to be carnivorous can be seen with a gazelle, a herbivore which also happens to be prey for the leopard

I think u got the picture wrong in the first place
In the first picture there is a bite mark in the gazelle stomach which is as a result of the leopard's teeth
When the leopard was petting the gazelle the claws were out in which it intention was to attack, kill and in rare case if the prey is a threat will defend itself
The reason why the leopard was at first confuse is the level of confidence displayed by the prey and this is as a result of the gazelle being young
she never saw the predator as a threat and this confused the leopard and had to study it prey before later killing it
