Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force(NPF) Adamu Mohammed has explained why the Nigerian police is acclaimed to be the best in the world, Insidenaija reports.

Adamu on a Channels Television programme on Monday, January 25, explained that the Nigerian Police is doing its best in maintaining peace and order across the country despite being underfunded.

He noted further that, when Nigerian officers are taken out of the country to an international environment where the logistics for effective policing are available, they perform wonderfully well.

In his words:

“When you have police as an organisation that is supposed to fight crime, to maintain law and order, the personnel of that organisation must be properly trained, must be properly equipped, must be given the necessary tools required for them to perform the functions for which they are recruited.

“It is only in Nigeria that you have police officers that don’t have the required logistics that they need to operate, but they struggle and make the society peaceful.

“When you take them out of the country, to an international environment where those logistics that are required for you to do policing job are there, you see them performing wonderfully well. And that’s why Nigerian police officers are acclaimed to be the best in the world.

“Put Nigerian police officers side by side with even police officers from advanced countries; give them the same function; give them the same logistics; you’ll see the officers of the Nigerian police perform better than those that are coming from so-called advanced countries.

“I’m an example. A lot of police officers from those advanced countries worked under me and I directed them on what policing is and what should come out of them.

Just like the IG and his group, there's something wrong with their mental orientation about policing in this nation (the government).
Effective policing is all about preventing a crime before it even takes place. And how do nations do that?
This can only be done through beneficial citizenry engagement by different means which must include and not limited to the following:
1. Job creation
2. Provision of basic and social amenities
3. Affordable skill acquisition and education
4. Talent engagement and nurturing
5. Stabilisation of the currency by constantly creating business enabling policies.
6. No matter how low your inflation rate is, stiffer measures should be taken to further drive it down when possible and
7. Citizenry engagement on areas of potentials which can be harnessed for the overall benefits of such individual and the Nation at large.

These and so much more are hugely lacking in the Nigerian system through bad unproductive leadership overtime.
Guns and tanks are meant for defence against external aggression.
