I've had issues with the specificity of this question.

Are you asking if the traps themselves are gay, or if liking a trap makes one gay?

For the first one, it depends on the author, but incidentally most trap characters aren't.

Now as for the latter
I personally adheren to the Schrödinger's shlong theory. Which states that until the **** is observed it's not gay. Considering these characters are intentionally made to look, act and sound like girls, but to mess with the viewer, you are told they are a guy. Hence the name "Trap"

Now if the viewer still retains interest even after the **** is observed, it is still less likely that the viewer is gay, but they are more likely a variant of bi and no longer straight.

You are absolutely correct that traps themselves may or may not be gay. The meme generally refers to your second interpretation on the question.

Schrodinger's shlong theory is a useful way to gauge how gay (gayge?) liking a trap is. However, it does not account for how much the trap actually passes off as a girl. For example, Felix from Re:Zero totally has man shoulders and Nagisa from Ass. Class. has a very very androgynous stature. These should count for something.

Futas also make this theory harder to accept because they are full-blown women who have grown a ×××× through fantastical means or are born that way as a different race. This theory will make futas gay, thus it can potentially make liking either men or women gay. By definition, that can't be true.

After a great deal of rumination, I have been able to deduce that traps, are in fact gay by diving into the definition of these words.

Gay: liking the same sex.
Sex It's defined by X and Y chromosomes. If you're attracted to someone with the same pair as you. Congratulations, you gay af. Or bi. Definitely not straight, though.

Straight: liking the opposite sex.
If you're attracted to someone with different chromosomes than you. You're straight. Hence a male being attracted to a futa is perfectly straight.
