Moment selfless pregnant woman throws herself on top of her four-year-old son after gunman opens fire at Brazilian burger stand

CCTV surveillance video showed a moment a gunman opened fire at a hamburger joint in Brazil leading a pregnant woman to dive on top of her son to shield him.

The incident took place in the Federal District town of Recanto das Emas, Brazil, on Sunday night while Rafaela Dantas was having a meal with her husband and friends after attending a local church service.

Dantas, who is six months pregnant, told Brazilian news outlet G1 that she initially thought the two suspects had a disagreement with one of the customers before she found herself trying to protect the life of her four-year-old boy.

The surveillance video showed the two assailants stepping into the eatery before one of them stopped a pair of diners from leaving the outdoor hamburger stand.

While announcing their intent to rob the eatery and take the customer's belongings, the shooter aimed his gun at them, before a male customer rushed at his accomplice and tried to tackle him to the ground.

The hero customer then finally let up and stepped back while raising both of his hands before the gunman fired a shot in his direction and missed.

However, Dantas can be see in the video lowering her son to the ground and placed him in a bearhug as the gunman's accomplice rushed to her seating area and grabbed two cellphones and took off running. Fortunately, none of the customers were injured during the robbery.
Authorities recovered one of the cellphones after it was abandoned in a nearby bush and tracked by its owner.
