PRESIDENT BUHARI MOURNS THE LOSS OF STAUNCH ALLY, AND FORMER MINISTER TONY MOMOH

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed grief at the passing of his longtime ally, friend, political loyalist and former Minister of Information and Culture, Prince Tony Momoh.

Reacting to the passage, President Buhari said Prince Momoh stood with him through thick and thin, adding: “His brand of loyalty is very rare in the politics of today. I will greatly miss him.”

The President recalled that as chairman, Media and Publicity of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) Campaign Organisation in the 2003 and 2007 elections as well as Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the late Auchi Prince contributed in no small measure to the growth and strengthening of the organizations, leading to the eventual formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

President Buhari commiserated with the media industry on the loss of a veteran who put in a lot to raise the bar of the profession in various ways as editor, manager, administrator, President and Trustee of the Guild of Editors, urging them to sustain his legacies.

While also condoling with the Auchi Kingdom, the government and people of Edo State on this great loss, the President prayed that God will grant the departed eternal rest and comfort family, friends and political associates in this period of grief.

Femi Adesina

A good man, Prince Tony Momoh, has gone home. The veteran journalist, politician and former minister was an avowed apostle of politics without bitterness. And like the prince he was, carried himself with dignity and respect. He will be sorely missed.

My family and I, condole with his family; the Otaru of Auchi Kingdom, HRH Alhaji Aliru Momoh (Ikelebe III) and his Council; the government and people of Edo State, his friends and associates. May his soul rest in peace.

Atiku Abubakar

Prince Tony Momoh, the veteran journalist and elder statesman will be remembered for his contributions to nation-building. As we celebrate his immense achievements, I send my heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Edo State, and his friends across the nation.

RIP Prince Tony Momoh, former National Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), one of the legacy political parties that metamorphosed into our great party, the governing APC.

Governor Sanwo-Olu mourns Tony Momoh

Describes his death as colossal loss to Nigeria

Lagos State Governor, Mr. @jidesanwoolu has described the death of former Minister of Information and Culture, Prince Tony Momoh, as a colossal loss to Nigeria and the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor @jidesanwoolu in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr @gboyegaakosile, on Monday, said the death of the elder statesman, politician and journalist was painful and heartbreaking.

The governor urged family, friends and colleagues of the deceased as well as leadership of the All Progressives Congress to work towards immortalising the late Momoh, saying what he stood for and advocated during his lifetime was a better Nigeria.

@jidesanwoolu said the country will sorely miss the rich experience and knowledge of the former Daily Times Editor and ex-National Chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), especially his contributions to national issues through politics and his editorial contents.

He said: “The death of Prince Tony Momoh is a great loss to Nigeria. The late Momoh made lots of positive impact in Nigeria during his life time as a journalist, media manager, lawyer, politician and elder statesman.

"As Minister of Information and Culture between 1986 and 1990 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, Prince Momoh served his nation meritoriously.

"As a democrat, he played active roles in the formation of various political platforms at the transition stage of Nigeria from military dictatorship to civilian rule.

He led his former party, the Congress for Political Change (CPC) to form the APC with other political Parties and contributed positively to the party's victories in the 2015 and 2019 general elections.

"I sympathise with President Muhammadu Buhari, the entire leadership and members of our party.

I also commiserate with Government and people of Edo State on the loss of their illustrious son.

"I pray that God will grant him eternal rest and give the immediate family and friends the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

CPS to Lagos State Governor

This loss saddens me. Tony Momoh was not only a media veteran; he was my friend. He will be dearly missed. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

Ohanaeze, Afenifere, Uwazuruike mourn Tony Momoh

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere Renewal Group and former President of Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike have expressed shock at the death of former Minister of Information Prince Tony Momoh.

They described him as a great and accomplished Nigerian who died with his head held high.

The Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said it is sad that Momoh died at a time his brilliance was most needed.

‘It is a sad and painful news Prince Tony Momoh is a great Nigerian and he will be greatly missed.”

Publicity Secretary of Afenifere Yinka Odumakin described Momoh as a patriotic Nigerian who spoke out in support of restructuring Nigeria to true federalism.

‘It is painful, Prince Tony Momoh was a true and patriotic Nigerian who spoke out in support of restructuring Nigeria to true federalism. His death at this time is a great loss to everybody who believes in restructuring Nigeria to true federalism, he will be greatly missed,’ he said.

Uwazuruike described the late Momoh as a patriotic Nigerian who gave the country his best and died with his head held high.

‘Prince Tony Momoh lived a life that is unique. He was not born Anthony Momoh, he was born a Muslim, but he took up the name because of Lord Tony Anden of England. He went into journalism with his very important degree and later became General Manager of The Daily Times. He was a brilliant lawyer, any law student will remember the celebrated case of Tony Momoh vs President of the Senate. The then-president of the Senate summoned him to appear before them to answer questions on an article that was published in The Daily Times. rather than respond, he went to court fought them and won. He has made his name and his mark, he became a minister under Gen Ibrahim Babangida. One of the most remarkable moments of his being a minister was when Dele Giwa was killed in a parcel bomb. He rushed in and spoke like a journalist and a man of authority and said the death will be investigated. Unfortunately by the next day, he was reminded that he was a minister and he recanted and said there was nothing there, that I will regard as his lowest moment, otherwise he was a great man, he did his beat we can only say rest in peace, he had done his tour of duty and he died with his head held high,’ he stated.

SOURCE

Prince Tony Momoh was an incurable and unapologetic nationalist. He was so optimistic and believed in his party and the Government he helped to install by once declaring that “stone us if we fail”.He will not be stoned. He will be missed.A great loss.May his soul Rest In Peace.

I can't wait to mourn the fool called Nnamdi Kanu. Now don't get me wrong. Not that I intend mourning him because he is dead but because his useless death will mean that he will be occupying 6 feet of land that could have been used for more important things like cultivating guava.

cool cool

Anyways, Rest In Peace Mommoh

May Nnamdi Kanu and his dissident followers join you soon. Iseeeeeeeee!
