Government Moves NIN-SIM Linkage Deadline To April 6 by seborrhic: 7:53am On Feb 02, 2021
The ongoing National Identification Number and Subscriber Identity Module integration exercise has been extended by eight weeks, the Federal Government announced on Tuesday morning.

It said the new deadline was now April 6, 2021.

Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, Ikechukwu Adinde, who disclosed this in a WhatsApp message to our correspondent, said the extension was conveyed by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.

Pantami conveyed the message during the meeting of the Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration which held on the 1st of February, 2021.

Eventually they will extend it till the end of the year, then gradually don't mention anything about their being a deadline, but only insist that anyone getting a new SIM or replacing one must provide a NIN.

I see line blockage unable to stand, I see telecommunications companies not complying to the government's directive, I see them not being able to block dedicated customers cos it will mean a drastic drop in profit for them. I see this NIN issue dying off cos more than 60% of Nigerians wouldn't register.

Na so them go move am till December.

How wld u block over 40 million phone users because of NIN. Why didnt u ask for the NIN at the time the SIM was purchased.

Lack of foresight i guess.

This why it is good to carryout proper research before policy formulation. Had it been the Agency carried out research, it would have enabled them to determine how many minutes it takes to register a person, how many persons a center can register in a day and how long will it take to register over 100 million subscribers based on available resources.
This would have given the policy makers idea on how to set a realistic deadline.

Just waking up and set 2 weeks deadline doesn't show the preparedness.
