Why Southern Nigeria Needs A Single Political Party - Opinion by HigherEd(op):
It appears to me that the solution to the problem of Nigeria is restructuring. However, if this is not possible in the short term, then southerners need to reorganize and improve their politics.

Force the country into a two party ideological system by spinning off a southern middle belt party (SMBP) or give it a less conspicuous name like the Liberal Progressive Party. This would represent everything the south and much of north central wants within the federal system - security, fiscal federalism, state police?, freedom of and from religion, free speech, private sector driven economic progress etc - we don't have to agree on everything just like the democrats in the US don't agree on everything.

In practice, this means the entire South West, South South, South East current major political players from APC, APGA and PDP would need to merge together into one political party. The moment the coalition can deliver the presidency to the total exclusion of the North West, then we have saved Nigeria.

The north would be forced to spin off a united political party to counter the south. But it won't mean much if we can get the Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Abuja on board, and get greater control on who the president would be. Thereby battling NASS to a standstill until all our agenda passes.

This means the coalition must work towards getting 75% of votes for the SMBP (or LPP) across all southern states, and have 50-55% of Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Abuja in a national election to elect the president, even when the entirety of the North west and some states in the North East and Central votes in an opposing 98% for their own candidates.

If we can do this, then the ideology of the south would prevail in determining who becomes president for a very long time. Fringe elements like Elrufai and Yerima would never smell the presidency for the next fifty years.

Until the three political zones down south can fuse into one strong political structure the northern oligarchy would keep playing tennis with our heads.

Good idea but they’re divided across tribal lines already. You can see the lunatic tribalists here blasting themselves.

Let me make something abundantly clear.

Initiatives like Amotekun, ESN, Youth Democratic Parties are very temporal solutions that won't stand the test of time.

The core North was simply shocked about the rise of these security outfits. But they would respond to it in time.
The earlier we give the north far bigger credit for being outstanding politicians the sooner we begin to play high powered politics of our own.

The people clamoring for secession under the Kanu and Igboho movements are political amateurs.

Look at the map of Nigeria again, look at where all the income comes from - Crude oil, VAT, CIT, Customs revenue. Look at the ability to trade via the sea in favor of the south, look at the lopsided human resources in favor of the south.
Nothing favors the north if they allow anyone secede.
The north would rather fight an 100 year war and lose half her population than let anyone in the south go

Ask yourself, do you want Onitsha, Port harcourt or Ogbomoso to be on fire. Would you be consoled knowing Kano too is on fire? Due to years of investment in education, the south is closer to an economic run if certain conditions are twitched in the federal system. Do you really want to go to war?

Therefore the solution is to take control of this union.

If only the betrayers and back stabbers will agree. they are not even united in fighting Fulanis in their land. one will say something today and another will counter him immediately

If only yorubas can stop their hatred and Igbos throw down their pride and work together.

Only if you know the high level meeting that goes on behind the scene to stop people from saying the truth.

Tinubu won't say anything publicly but he keep calling the governors, senators, leaders and representatives threatening them not to give in to the people's demand, just as he is being intimidated from Aso Rock too.

It's too bad... Even the Ooni can't even cough again

Then how can it be possible for southern Nigeria to have one political party with all this going on

The south is more divided than the whole Nigeria is divided..

That's why the North keeps ruling because they are United..

Not really.

I would say something you should take note when dealing with politics.

People don't matter as much as figures do in political calculations.

Example. You say Igbos and Yoruba hate themselves abi?
But in truth Igbos and Yoruba can share certain mutual values even when they dislike themselves.
1) They both don't want Fulani to kill their farmers and steal their lands.
2) They both want religion to play moderate influence in national politics. Etc.

Both Igbos and Yoruba actually know the north is using their head to play tennis but groan about it separately.

What you need isn't the people to unite. No.

For a moment, imagine a Kanu and this Igboho guy signed an accord to work together on a mutual agenda. What do you think would think happens with their followers? They would all fall in line.

My Uncle is a retired soldier and also a wealthy business man too. A very learned, wise man, who I respect his opinion so much, told me last year. sadly, that Fulani will surely conquer all tribes in Nigeria, even the presently stubborn southerners.

Stating that:
1. Tribalism among us (the fulanis will work on this weakness. Even on nairaland here. You can see highly educated men fighting over a pot of soup with all tribal strength)

2. Silence of our leaders... Almost all our leaders (Danjuma, OUK, BAT, Emeka Offor, OBJ etc)rose to prominence by fulani support and system, hence their sympathy to the fulani. They would rather fight their own people that stand for justice.

3. The Fulani Jinn and Taquiyyas... many doubt this, but I tell you that the Emirs and Sultans are daily conjuring magical powers to keep the all the tribes subdued and in perpetual disunity. That's why other major tribes can never get to work together. They perform rituals in their palaces daily
