A guided tour inside West Africa's biggest plastic manufacturing factory by Dr Innocent Chukwuma.

This plant in Enugu also provides all the plastic components for the vehicle manufacturing plant in Nnewi. Very impressive, though i think they need to try kitting out their staff on the factory floor in the appropriate PPE.

Biko post the Onitsha stockfish market here OR hush when important issues are being discussed. You probably haven't even been to Onitsha in the last 40 years, but you will like to post rubbish just for the sake of saying something.

I know you have never been to the new building materials market Ogidi, nor have you been to the new shoe market at Nkwelle Ezunaka. Even the new "Abada" market at the foot of the Niger bridge. Among all these "new markets", none is more beautiful or better planned than the electronics market built in the 1990s! Your type will be thinking of one slum market in LAGOS as the standard. Since all the slums in Lagos are your standard for development without knowing Lagos itself is a slum. You should copy other open markets in other decent developing countries NOT LAGOS!

The point being, we want this new market to truly stand out as an ultra modern space comparable to such anywhere in the world! Not just building another market for the sake of it without car parks, areas for restaurants, banks, entertainment and other facilities. This is an opportunity to build the BIGGEST tourist attraction in Anambra state if it is done right and to world standard NOT LAGOS standard as our people are fixated on Lagos style markets.

Thank you. This is an excellent input.

There is no constitutional provision for Mayor. The Obiano government started well by creating the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency but then did little to staff it or even fund it. I said a long time ago that you need Development Boards or Agencies to manage major cities from which all key projects should be run - Transport, environment, sanitation, roads, water, healthcare. Staff them with qualified people to get around a lot of the incompetent civil servants that have entrenched themselvves in the ministries of works, health, transport, etc. With them you could even get experts from development agencies (UN, world bank, etc.) to work there funded by external orgs.

Project-driven Agencies are well known to be far more effective than the morass that is state civil service.

He could create a management agency, like he did for Awka. From my understanding, the ACTDA only operates within Awka, so Onitsha is left out. Onitsha generates more revenue, so it'd make sense to ensure it's being properly managed, that building regulator systems are being enforced, that roads are being swept, that standards are being kept (i.e. pavements, underground drainage, bins, enforcement against garbage dumping and defacing structures with posters). Because as far as micro-management is concerned, that's an impossibility. No governor can manage large cities, while governing the state in its entirety.

And if you say a Mayor isn't part of the constitution, because it was, in 1966, then it means Nigeria's constitution also needs reforming.

Anambra to work With Air Peace to bring Embraer Service Centre to the State

The Anambra State government has set in motion the machinery to work with West Africa’s leading airline, Air Peace, to get Embraer of Brazil, the world’s fourth largest civilian aircraft manufacturer, to locate a service centre for Africa in the state.

Though the details of the state government’s move are not yet made public, it is understood that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has since last year been in talks with the Air Peace founder, Chief Allen Onyema, to get the Brazilians to cite the service centre at Anambra International Cargo Airport at Umueri which is still undergoing construction.

At the delivery last week of Air Peace E195 –E2 in Lagos, Chief Onyema made a passionate appeal to the Brazilian embassy in Abuja to advise the Embraer Corporation in Sao Paulo to build a service centre in Nigeria to cater for the African region.

The brand new plane, registered as 5N-BYF, is the first in 13 Embraer aircraft ordered by the airline for its African regional routes.

“As the first carrier in Africa to purchase Embraer’s E series, which is the latest, Air Peace, with our support, is in a strong position to lobby the manufacturer to bring such a centre to our state”, Governor Obiano said today in a virtual discussion with some members of his administration working quietly on the project.

Anambra International Cargo Airport, the second biggest airport in the country, is designed to accommodate at least one hanger to service different kinds of aircraft, according to Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi (retired), Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Creative Security and a former Nigerian Air Force pilot who also used to be the military attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in Paris, France.

When he visited the airport last August, an impressed Chief Onyema pledged to build a hanger there.

“If Air Peace builds a hanger there and Embraer follows suit with an African service centre, the vision of building this modern and large airport on a very large swath of land will have been realized”, stated Chief Obiano.

“We didn’t set out to build just any airport, but a strategic one which will help boost traditional commerce in our state and beyond, but, quiet importantly, result in technology transfer and in the transformation of our economic landscape”.

Meanwhile, the state government has described Chief Onyema as the greatest current promoter of private diplomacy in Nigeria.

“Onyema”, said Governor Obiano in a message to the Air Peace chairman following the acquisition of the new plane from Brazil, “has shown that you need not be in government or hold any public office to effectively promote the interests of your country.

“It is not just in Brazil that he has boosted our reputation far better than any person but also in such places as South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates where Air Peace flies into regularly, with plans to start flying into the United States, India, Israel and the United Kingdom shortly.

“What is more, the excellent safety record of the carrier and the efficient ground and onboard services it provides, coupled with its schedule integrity, have all combined to make it compete effectively with the best airlines in the world.

“We are proud that Chief Onyema, a worthy son of Anambra State, is championing African economic integration, a Nigerian foreign policy plank, through tireless opening of regional routes.

“This is to say nothing about his promotion of national integration and unity by flying every hour to all parts of Nigeria.

“Air travel in Nigeria would have been extremely difficult if not for Chief Onyema who is not driven by the profit motive but service to humanity, starting with fellow Nigerians”.

Air Peace, which commenced commercial operations in 2013, has 30 aircraft in its fleet, with 23 more expected from both Embraer and Boeing Corporation of the United States, the world’s biggest aircraft manufacturer.

NEXT OBIANO SHOULD BE MAKING ARRANGEMENT WITH INNOSON AND ORIENT FOR AVIATION FUELING STATIONS AT THE AIRPORT.

NO NEED WAITING, UMUERI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS PURPOSE BUILT AND AFTER WE FINISH, AM SURE THE NORTH AND SW WILL COPY FROM US.

SINCE WE HAVE RUNWAY, MAINTENANCE HANGER AND AVIATION FUELING STATIONS SHOULD BE GETTING AS MUCH ATTENTION AS AIRPORT BUILDING.

IF IVM AND ORIENT PARTNER EACH OTHER, WE WILL HAVE A FUNCTIONAL REFINERY IN LITTLE OVER 2 YEARS FROM NOW.

IF ABUJA IS CLAIMING OIL WELL,, LET OUR INDIGENIOUS COMPANIES TAKE OVER ALL THE TECHNICAL OPERATIONS.

Would have thought Capital Oil, SEPLAT, Brittania-U, NESTOIL, etc (i mean, let’s face it...the state isn’t exactly struggling to find high networth Anambrans operating in the oil and gas industry) would have been at each other’s throats for who would get the contract to build and operate this aviation fuel depot at the airport!

Obiano needs to go and pester them till they invest! They could all form a consortium of venture capitalists to invest if the cost is too much for one person to bear!

You are new here obviously. Ignore Chino. He is the resident keyboard warrior on Anambra threads. The jury is not yet out on his ethnicity. Anyone that calls himself Igbo but malign Enugu, curse Abia, insults Imo and rubbishes Ebonyi is a persona non grata as far as I am concerned.

He has a thousand monikers whose main goal is to drive a wegde in the public space between brothers. To promote and sustain the agelong propaganda that Igbos are enemies to themselves and can fight to death.

Check all his post,he has no meaningful contribution to developments in his fatherland. I can read and see passion and patriotism from a thousand miles. He lacks both. He just attack and attack using Anambra as launching pad.

Stop giving him attention and please in that your progressive meeting never allow your altercation with him on this thread dampen your patriotic spirit. Igboland shall rise!!!

My brother. Once we get this maintainance hanger and aviation tank farm fuel station. Anambra will witness a boom like never expected. it will be the best airport in Nigeria and one of the best in Africa. Its very simple. All state government has to do is negotiate with embraer on tax relief. We already have orient oil so will use oil serve to build pipeline to airport from refinery and build a tank farm/station at the airport as you said. This is what should of been done instead of wasting money on awka statdium. Obiano has done well. Many of his advisers and commissioners let him down. but he as a governor has tried and done his best. Well done to him. Also he should build a aviation school with modern flight simulators. He could also had a aerobridge from terminal into plane. Just these few things will make this airport unbeatable and the inflow of foreign investment will be crazy. All the next governor needs to do is total reconstruction of state. urban renewal. roads sidewalks beautification trees demolishing of shanties and markets by road side. No more street trading with umbrellas and removal of sands on streets followed by a proper transport system of transit buses made by innoson.

There should massive investment in to nnewi manufacturers to start making aircraft spare parts. This airport could be the start of making anambra an aviation hub in the world. It can definitely be in Africa.

Our brother Allen Onyeama should play smart. Direct flights to China, Dubai, India, Turkey which is the east should all go through Umueri. If you live in Lagos or any other state you must connect to Umueri before you can get direct flight there as its heading East. Direct Flight to London from Umueri as well as a lot of our people live in UK and Europe. Any flight to East Africa must go direct from Umueri. This is how you put your foot of the neck on Lagos and make money.

Onyeama Air peace builds the hanger. obijackson Nestoil builds Aviation Fuel Station/Farm. Simple. I should be working for the government and would get things moving. The problem we have is not Obiano but all his commissioners and advisers who are sycophants have no knowledge or vision and are happy with a few thousand Naira to put food in there belly. Thats why Anambra is the way it is. The governor has shown that he likes to do things big but one man can not do it alone. You need a team. The next Governor needs to make sure he employs the high people. Only a few who know what to do. Both of these guys are from Ihiala. They will make a fortune and will invest immediately. ANSIPPA should go with Onyeama and Brazilian Ambassador immediately to Embraer offices in Brazil and start negotiation and bring them to Umueri to see site. Once they see the land, believe me they will build a service centre there as they will see and know this is how they move in to African market.

Anambra international airport is here. God continue to bless Anambra state, the light of the entire black race

ChimaAdeoye:
Gov. Wille Obiano is truly a magician!!! How did he get the money for such world class project?
Obiano is finally bequeathing Anambra with one the best airports in West Africa!

Everything from the access roads, Main Airport gate, runway, taxiway, car parks, fire stations, Emergency medical clinics, 2 level terminal building, Water supply station, mini power station was well thought out!!! With more space for future expansion and development!

The official airport January 2021 Status Update video released by the state government! O'lboy, this is indeed a massive project. Everything is done at the best international standard!!!

Anambra finally has a true international airport to facilitate trade and commerce without depending on the whims and caprices of others!
I am hoping the begin planting trees, flowers and grass now around areas that no further construction is needed. Also they need beautiful trees and flowers along the main airport road all the way to the parking lots to give it the best ambiance possible!

I wish Anambra state government officials are reading some very good suggestions on this forum. I do not mean those here insulting people or those government praise singers.
Government should involve or welcome private sectors (Igbo Captains of Industry) to make this airport 'Oka Ibe'

NWANNE, WEN WE SET UP THE BUSINESS CLIMATE, NOW TELL ME WHY WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BUILD A WORLD CLASS, PASSENGER AND CARGO TERMINAL BUILDING?

I TOLD THEM TO MAKE THIS ROAD 10 LANES FROM THE START, THEY MADE IT SIX LANES, SO WE WILL CONTINUE BUILDING ROAD FOR THE NEXT 20YEARS.

WEN FUEL TANKERS AND CARGO TRAILERS OR TRUCKS START OPERATION, THEY WILL SEE HOW SENSELESS THEY WERE MAKING A MAJOR AIRPORT FACILITIES SIX LANES.
