There is a lot of useful information out there that you need to consider.

The primary thing you need to consider is a company’s balance sheet because it describes the financial health of a company. You can find this on the U.S gov’t securities exchange commission’s website.

You need to look out for debt levels and any extraordinary items indicated on the footer of a balance sheet.

Please also consider cash flow, since the only thing that really matters is how much revenue a company gets yearly.

You want to consider the management of a company. In other words, be wary of high turnover. Be wary of decreasing revenue streams and increasing levels of debt.

You could always look at dividend payment history. Please consider what a company does for their moat trend too. In other words, what a company does to ensure that it remains a tough competitor.

Consider Price to earning ratios because that is another way of saying for every dollar I spend how much am I getting in return. I also like to consider the kinds of products a company sells because products that you can continuously buy over and over again are good bets. For instance, companies such as colgate toothpaste and coca cola are good choice. Personally, I would not try to select a winning company. It is better to invest in well diversified investments.

Here’s a good example of why you may want to refrain from purchasing individual companies. A caller on the Dave Ramsey show invested $15K in Lehman Brother’s before it went under. His balance dropped to $895 USD- let that sink in for a minute. If you have to invest in a company stock, then put no more than 5% in any one name regardless of how good it is and no more than 20% in any sector. More money is lost by chasing yield. Don’t chase Yield!

PE: 15 or lower
PEG: 1 or lower
P/B ratio: 3 or lower
ROA: 5% or higher
Current Ratio: 1:2 or 2
Quick Ratio: 1:1
Debt Equity:1:1
Bid price are buyers
Ask price are sellers
Use Limit order on all your app if you don't have the liver to trade

In addition, most Nigeria trading app DO NOT have ALL stocks so it best you start looking out for your own portfolio using the above criteria to purchase a stock.

Finally, invest what you can afford to loose.

Another thing I have learnt in the market is that research cannot be over emphasized but if you are convinced about the company buy min of 100 shares e.g VTRS, VEON and Deanfoods are ALL good and are less than $1.

Let's do a little maths with Deanfoods that is $0.7 cents, imagine buying 100 shares that's about $7 and if it gets to within $15-$20. Abnormal gain!!!!

I also noticed that Trove does have all stocks hence I dedicated my weekend on researching on companies that my pocket can carry below $2.
