One of the best presidents

Best from where? At this time when Gowon was running from pillar to post squandering Nigeria's new found oil wealth due to the oil boom of 1971 - The UAE and Singapore were worse than Nigeria in terms of wealth, Infrastructure and world hierarchy of importance. 2 years earlier, before he took this pic, Gowon loaned $10 million to the UAE and later converted it to a grant (that means do not pay back) - He was paying the salaries of teachers and civil servants in some African countries and giving grants to countries in the Caribbean. He was spending like a drunken sailor, and he was touted as saying "Nigeria has enough money, our problem is how to spend it"

I hope he is seeing what the UAE he pitied then when he gave Sheik Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan that money, what they did with their oil wealth? the same oil wealth our leaders stole and squandered? - I hope he can see where the UAE is today as compared to the western world in terms of wealth, Infrastructure and world hierarchy of importance - and where Nigeria is today in terms of decay, corruption, poverty and insecurity? While the UAE just launched a space vehicle to orbit Mars, Nigeria can not guarantee 24 hours power supply to any Nigerian anywhere in Nigeria. GOWON LAYED THE FOUNDATION FOR WASTE AND CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA Enuff said sad

Nigeria indeed has once been a very good and prosperous country..

What exactly happened to Nigeria?

Nah who start the whole mess?

The saddest thing is till now, I’m yet to find the truth. Nigeria history is filled with 95% of lies.

A British parliamentarian, Tom Tugendhart recently threw a BOMBSHELL accussing Gowon of looting half the money in the central bank of Nigeria while he was head of states of Nigeria during the 1970s before he was overthrown by Late General Murtala Muhammed.

The dust is yet to settle over that accusation although a lot of Nigerian started defending Gowon that he is such an innocent man that can not hurt a fly let alone loot our collective commonwealth as at the time he was holding power as a military head of states.

I think the British know a lot of secrets about the atrocity of our past leaders.

This accusation against General Gowon ( rtd ) may well be one of those high classified secrets which majority of Nigerians never knew about.

It was BS “accusation” but of course some Nigerians/Africans will slavishly believe anything a white person says...SMH

Gowon did NOT own a single property anywhere in the world (not in Nigeria and most certainly not in the UK) when he was overthrown and ended up in exile in the UK with supposedly “half the money in the central bank”. He stayed at the house of Emmanuel Oti (the dad of the former England international rugby player, Chris Oti), an Ibo man barely a few years after the bitter civil war (but a commentary on the regards many held for the man), and his wife Victoria reportedly had to work for a while to support the family. When Gowon enrolled at Warwick University, he lived in the university’s graduate/married students’ housing with his family, until those in the Nigerian government themselves who had overthrown him found “more suitable” accommodation for him (after sending Gen TY Danjuma to him to plead with him to conduct himself in a manner supposedly “more befitting” for a former Nigerian head of state). In fact, Gowon did not have any property in Nigeria until when the Babangida administration built one for him in Jos (on land donated by Fom Bot of Jos) in 1987 or thereabouts following Gowon’s pardon and rehabilitation. These are all things in the public domain and matters of public record.

When things do not add up, please use the brain cells that nature supposedly endowed all of us with and call BS. The white man is neither beyond reproach nor infallible - their shyte stinks just like yours. Classified secrets ko, Colonized gibberish ni!

Gbam!!! As if you're reading my mind... that's exactly what I was thinking. Nigeria 1973 - 2021 (48 years) still looks like crap. Same no water, no light, bad hospitals, life is cheap. 50 years from now people will post this same damn picture as throwback and my people will still be hustling to find better life outside.

Swag kill our leaders... imagine how the English would be laughing behind his back: see fancy dress, yet to make a single light bulb is impossible for these Africans.
