I'm not trying to be mischievous. I'm trying to learn more about noiler birds and the topic was about noiler. The bolded part got my attention and prompted my initial question. I was curious about what makes layers to be preferred over noiler if they lay about the same number of eggs. I got idea of noiler laying the same as layers from the bolded and your response to my earlier question.

I just noted now that your response implies they lay more. Thanks
Okay. I totally forgot I said that...the time frame between the comments is quite long.

Anyway, Issa Brown layers lay more than Noiler layers. This is a fact. If you get 20 eggs from 25 Noilers daily, you would get like 23 from Issa Brown. Issa Brown are better.

They are all females.. I've sorted them out. Like I said they are almost 8 months old. Infact today they laid just two. There was a time I was getting 13-14 for like 4 days . I thought they would even improve on that
but they didn't.
I'm just using this to test run.

Poultry no be am at all. How do you people make gains from it.
What are you feeding them? If you allow them free range, don't expect them to lay well

So in summary noiler and layer hens would perform equally ok. I'm now wondering why the layers is recommended over noiler when they perform equally well. What advantage does the layer birds have over noiler? If noiler hens can produce equal number of eggs, shouldn't they be preferred considering that they are more hardy than layer birds and if you want to free range, they will be able to scavenge/forage better than layers?
you misunderstood my answer...or maybe I misunderstood your question... but I meant 25 layers would give you about 21 eggs daily and not noilers....I don't think you can get a guaranteed number of eggs from noilers....reason why no one uses them commercially for egg production... at least not that I have seen or know of..do you know even female broilers lay eggs too after a certain period? yes there do but nobody uses broilers for commercial egg production either. besides their feed consumption compared to laying output would be too high.. same for noilers also.

It was kayo80 who actually shared his experience of getting 20 to 21 eggs per day from 25 noiler hens. So your own statement that 25layers will give 21 eggs gave me an impression that they would have same performance regards egg laying. But he has clarified that afterwards.

Thanks

I have 7 noilers that lays 6-7 eggs everyday. the difference between them and normal layers is that their eggs are bigger in size and they consume more feed.

The egg won't break. The last time I did this, I had like 20 in a wooden cage, and they were laying eggs every day. I didn't even have wood shaven or sawdust there, and the eggs weren't breaking. But you can get wood shaven or saw dust to put there, which will cooshen the dropping of the eggs. Also, make sure you go there around the time they lay every day, so you can pick them up before they start trampling on the eggs.

Back then, mine layed eggs around 9am - 11am every day. You would know cos they would become restless, and start making a funny sound... Like "Kwa Kwa Kwa."

And what to feed them? From 0-8 weeks, you feed them starter feed. And from 8 weeks, you start feeding them grower feed. They usually start laying around 18-22 weeks... That's about 5 months old. When 70% of them start laying, you can then switch to layer feed.

You can ask any further questions.

I have never gone that route before... I always give them commercial feed at all times.

I think you should open a fresh new topic in Agric section to ask this question... And explain what you have been feeding them and how long you have been experiencing this with them. I haven't raised birds for a while now and might not be the right person to answer this question.
