At a time in 2006, I was discussing with a course mate (Kebis), and we made a joke about a movie we watched together, and we laughed, then the other guy (Sotis ) who is also a coursemate but year one older than me and Kebis in the department, asked questions about the movie. At the end of the day, the three of us ended in my room to watch the same movie starring, Nkem owoh.

We laughed all through the movie, but from time to time, I could notice Sotis kept hitting my leg whenever he laughs. By the way, I have known Sotis for a while, not close but I see him in church and he is in charge of student relationship with the church. He heads many church activities in the school. I was proud to have him in my room. Although I was not church freak but my rooms shows everything about my deep Christian life.

After the movie, I and Sotis exchanged numbers and from time to time he sends text messages, asking about my welfare and how he likes me so much. I was happy and never had a second thought or worry about him.

One evening, around 7:20PM, Sotis can to my room, Sotis’s hostel is less than 150 meters away from my hostel. It was a bit dark, I motioned him to sit down on my reading chair while I lie down on the bed. Sotis, instead came and lie on the same bed with me. We are both males so I was not supposed to worry but I’m not the too close friend type. To me, space means a lot…. But I let him lie. There was a slight silence then I noticed Sotis touching me and quickly fiddled my boxers. I screened and quickly ran out of the room. I went blank, should I shout and let the hostel mates know that Sotis is gay or hit him with plank and chase him out of my room. I stood outside for a while in wide disbelieve. Someone like Sotis, well respected in the church and very close to top people in the church.

After some minutes Sotis opened the door and I watched as he shamefully left for his hostel.

I went back into my room and all through the night I was thinking about the same event, it is possible there are many students like Sotis, leaving a double life /hidden sex life. I remembered Kebis, the next morning I went to Kebis’s hostel to ask him if he knew Sotis very well. When I asked the question, Kebis, started laughing at me. At that moment, I got angry, So Kebis knew too, and he never wanted to mention that and probably other students and coursemates knew and they all decided to keep it sealed.

From that day onwards, Sotis started avoiding me, if he see me coming from afar, he will change direction, and this continued till graduation.

The last I heard of him was during his wedding ceremony, his wedding card was posted on Facebook page. My thought was, “hope his wife will cope with his sexual orientation, or maybe he is bisexual”.

Back to the topic
In African we have a lot of people living in denial of their reality, just to maintain social stand, they keep deceiving themselves with falsehood….
It is time we decide to think for ourselves. Identify the truth about these unnatural sexual orientations and find ways to manage it properly. Criminalizing sexuality is the same as criminalizing people born with one disability or the other…

I know a lot of people may be angered about my opinion on homosexuality. If you are angered, do not rush to attack. Take some time and think deep. Life is a gift. We should live it. Speed time on good things that will help us and our community. I’m happy that I’m not gay and as a man I love to be with a woman. I cherish my sexuality and I’m attracted to the opposite sex and they are attracted to me. But for some other people it is not the same story, they are attracted to the same sex. It may seem impossible but it is true. Because I’m privileged to have sexual orientation that is respected and globally accepted as natural and Godly I will use my power to oppress those who “not by their own action or inaction” happen to be gay.

With this law in place, the continent may continue to have a lot of fake lives, fake marriages, fake……

Who told you they are born that way?

Nobody is born gay or lesbian, just as nobody is born bestial or pansexual. People are born disabled, and choosing to be gay or whatever isn't a birth condition.

There are events that lead up to these things, but most are repressed by childhood memories fading. So when you ask them, they claim they've always been like that. They were not.

Born that way or shaped that way by past events, does it really matter? My point being, "they are the way they are". Gay, bi, lez, whatever.
Whatever happened to "live and let live". We all have our individual lives to live, plus for me, life is to short to worry or be concerned about where people (consenting adults) choose to stick their peckers into or how they choose to mess with their privates.

Even after you and I are gone, things like this will still exist, so just live your life.

Far be it from me to force my opinion of what MUST be, on others.

Too much craziness going on in this cesspit of a country and the planet generally than for me to concern myself over someone's peccadilloes.

You and op are mature people and exemplary Christians. Not only do you love your neighbours who are like you, you also love the gay enemies to the point that your compassion makes you not have enemies.

Its a mature understanding. One that is taught in the Parable of the Orangutan but which many tend to ignore or just don't understand. For the contemporaries in Nigeria of the three in the original would be a Man of God, a Worshipper and an Ogun or Sango devotee or a gay person.

Wow....so much said in this OP...

I'm a little confused on the title, "African Hypocrisy......"
As a "foreigner" looking at this from the outside in, there is a "14" year prison sentence for persons caught in homosexual activities (in Nigeria)or identifying as homosexual, yet the young man nick-named "Bobrisky" openly promotes a gender he was not born into?
If I didn't know he was born male, I may have been completely fooled...that he is a female.
The guy seems extremely like-able and all and may very well be a nice person, however his lifestyle concerns me.
You can only "play a character" for so long until you actually "become" the character.
He wasn't a bad looking dark-skinned guy either. Something happened somewhere in his earlier life I believe.
Perhaps the "hypocrisy" stems from Nigerian governmental lawmakers seeing this....yet doing nothing....just saying.

I don't know that criminalizing homosexuality solves the problem at all.
All it does it put people "out of public view", so that folks can pretend that it doesn't exist.
Yet what happens behind closed "prison doors"?
It's putting a band-aid on a wound, but not delving into the cause of the wound.
Anyhow, a lot of Black African countries have legislation in place and I have no right to condemn how a country chooses or "not chooses" how to legislate....although I may not personally agree with it. I disagree with many of my country's laws as well.

From a biblical viewpoint and correct interpretation of scripture, homosexuality is listed as a sin....amongst many others.
People are talking about it because it is the particular sin that has been promoted in Black African countries...for the past 10 years or so because of the "non-acceptance" of it. So what's happening is it's being normalized....

Biblically, homosexuality goes opposite to what God originally ordained.
If the argument id that a person is "born" homosexual rather than it being a "choice", then one is portraying God as an unjust, partial, lying dictator.
Think about this: why would God allow a person to be born (without a free-will to choose) into a condemed, sinful lifestyle and then ultimately destroy the person?
That makes "0" sense.
So the argument revolves around : choice or not a choice.

Now what I do find plausible is that early circumstances (more often than not) 1000 percent shape a person's views or later life experiences.
The OP mentioned the college friend situation that happened.
What I have understood about tons of Nigerian men is the "boarding school" experience (which is during the teen-age years) where many have engaged in homosexual activities....for whatever reasons.
Also many males have been molested or sexually abused as youngsters--meaning under 12 years of age...(where there was no chance to decide whether to engage in sexual activity....it was forced).
Those first time experiences (of sexuality) at such young ages....kept silent for fear of shame of the culture's stigma....and never dealt with....is what breeds homosexuality.
The problem is not dealt with....no getting to the root of it....so then because of the harsh laws/stigma and no help, Nigerian men (as fully grown adults) want to flee to countries where it is legal and they can live their lifestyle in peace.

The question then revolves around (and please pay close attention to what I will write) how to transform a person who has lived that lifestyle, is struggling with it, knows something is wrong and DESIRES to be free of it.
There is where the Lord Jesus Christ emerges....as introduced by a loving follower of Him.
Within Christianity, we believe that Jesus Christ can transform a "sinner into a saint".
That is with ANY sin.

African hypocrisy? Lol. The prosperity of the wicked will not last forever, it is fleeting, it does not last.

Psalms 37:7
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

All the nations of the earth that promote the iniquity of same sex marriage will be judged very soon. The homosexuality in them is not the disease, even though homosexuality is a deadly disease on its own, it is the symptom of something more insidious, far deadlier, infinitely more sinister, it is the mark of death and destruction upon a population to be open and brazen about homosexuality. Any society that wallows in homosexuality and LGBTQ is marked for destruction by the Almighty God, and this is the sign that he has placed upon then in order that everyone may know what is coming on them.

Nigeria, is tied to the apron strings of God via our laws that forbid homosexuality and open same sex liaisons, and we will not allow people that will soon face God's judgment to drag us away from those strings, we will remain bound to it forever.

No amount of English speaking will make us heap coals of fire upon ourselves collectively as a people. We are not deplorable, we are not vile people, and we are not degenerates.

MrPresident1:
What they did, their idolatry
Romans 1:21-23
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

the consequence. from idolatry to homosexuality
Romans 1:26
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

They became wicked reprobates
Romans 1:28-31
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

God's judgment on them and everyone that supports or promotes them
Romans 1:32
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

2 Thessalonians 2:8
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Also to be balanced....

As I am sure you know, Sodom & Gomorrah was not only destroyed because of homosexuality, but also because of pride, idolatry, exorbitance of lifestyle, and a separation from the true God.

Believe it or not, the entire world--not just a few nations-- is being judged (for the same thing as S & G) as we are living in the endtimes...as you scripturally referenced.

I don't know that I agree with the "Nigeria tied to the apron strings of God because of rejection of homosexuality" analogy.
Nigeria may be rejecting homosexuality through legislation---however she is guilty of committing many sins....of which God is not pleased.

"Deplorable" is murdering innocent people because of a different religion.

"Vile" is murdering and then slicing people open and eating organs, chopping off their body parts to sell or for rituals and believing in superstition for the sake of an imaginable "wealth" due to desperation because of poverty and no governmental help.

"Degenerate" is also an adult who willingly and repeatedly corrupts an innocent child's life by sexually abusing or abusing him/her.

All of the above describe Nigeria....
So you see, your nation is being judged too.

Putting something on paper and knowing the actual reality of it are two different things.
Sin is sin....regardless of if a nation criminalizes it (Nigeria) or legalizes it (the U.S.).
God is the ultimate judge and is judging ALL of us for all sin in our own individual lives....and there is no hierarchy of what sin is the greatest. To lie, steal and be prideful is just as horrific as homosexuality or murder.

SIDE NOTE:The sin against the Holy Spirit is the only sin which is unforgivable.

Which is why we ALL need to personally confess our sins, surrender to the Lord and and let Him transform us.

May thunder strike that your stupid balance

Did you see the characteristics of the Wicked one that Paul described to us? Do you see where Paul proves to us that national homosexuality is departure from God and devolution into the things that are inconvenient, vile and reprobate?

There is no need to treat you useless toothless hopeless dogs of satan with kid gloves. Nigeria and Nigerians will have no part in your perdition because you are irredeemable doomed. The son of perdition and his dogs promoting homosexuality all over the world are done for!

Thunder fire you for that your opening statement! Balance what?! There will be no equivocation in all this so that whoever is doomed and condemned at last deserves it fully

You would have been completely fooled only on the basis of lacking good judgment and arriving at a wrong conclusion.

Put your finger on it and mention exactly, what it is, that is horrific in homosexuality.

1. Is heterosexuality ordinarily sinful or a sin?
2. When does heterosexuality become sinful or turn into a sin?

Eviana:
SIDE NOTE:The sin against the Holy Spirit is the only sin which is unforgivable.

Which is why we ALL need to personally confess our sins, surrender to the Lord and and let Him transform us.
1. Why, in a way that exact and clear, is sin against the Holy Spirit, the only sin which is unforgivable?
2. How exactly, is sin against the Holy Spirit committed?
3. Give examples from the bible of exact committed sins against the Holy Spirit

MomentZone:
At a time in 2006, I was discussing with a course mate (Kebis), and we made a joke about a movie we watched together, and we laughed, then the other guy (Sotis) who is also a coursemate but year one older than me and [Kebis in the department, asked questions about the movie.

I went back into my room and all through the night I was thinking about the same event, it is possible there are many students like Sotis leaving a double life /hidden sex life.

Any dog that shows his face will be put to the Sword of the word

There will be no overt or covert promotion of mass homosexuality in Nigeria

Nigeria will have no part in the sealed inviolable irrevocable destiny of the son of perdition and his toothless, useless, hopeless and wasted dogs

I thought Jehovah witness people say that Jesus Christ has been ruling invisibly in the heavens since 1914 and here you are another dog of satan trying to put up a justification for mass homosexuality.

For your information, the captives of the mighty will be released, Satan the hopeless, the son of perdition has been judged, he has been de-fanged, eternity in hell stares him in the face, he will be there forever with his useless, toothless and hopeless dogs which you are one.

Michael the ArchAngel has defeated Satan, and the symbolism is the defeat, deposition and disgrace of Donald Trump, the king of America, by the corona virus

Revelation 12:9
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

There will be no middle grounds in this matter because this is a matter of life and death, every mouth that utters a word of support, every shoulder that offers a shoulder of support, for mass homosexuality in this day and age will go with the son of perdition into everlasting destruction and hell, the choice has now been placed in the hands of everyman.

I want to make this point very clear to the dogs of satan, I am not sure satan himself has told you this, this is not an ongoing war or battle or duel, this fight is over! THIS FIGHT IS OVER, WON AND DUSTED, WITH WINNERS AND MIGHTY CONQUERORS and losers and whimpering mongrels.

Don't ever think, as you come out to valiantly defend satan, that, you are doing battle or you are at war, cool down your mind, this game is over.

YES! Jesus truly began ruling in heaven NOT ON EARTH since 1914, he ousted Satan from heaven and the Bible says "woe for the earth and the sea because the Devil has come to you with great wrath having known that he has but a short period of time" Revelations 12:12

So all what we are experiencing on earth now is the handiworks of Satan and his demons, they will devastate the earth until God's Kingdom is extended to the earth, that's why Jesus asked us to keep praying for God's Kingdom to come {Matthew 6:10} this is the time to intensify in the model prayer because presently God's will is taking place in heaven and it will soon be established on earth!

JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES are sure Witnesses of the fact that Jesus has begun ruling in heaven that's why there is LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE GOODNESS, GENTLENESS, FAITH, MILDNESS and SELF-CONTROL in our midst {Galatians 5:22-23} this Organization is filled with imperfect humans just like all other groups but because Jesus has sent God's Holy Spirit to rule in their midst most people who don't want to comply with Christ's rulership are leaving the group while many who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness are flocking in!

Please take it easy, Jesus and his angels will come and destroy all those who are not ready to accept Jesus as King {Luke 19:27} meanwhile our own duty is to continue searching for the lost sheep of the house of Israel {Matthew 10:6} Jesus promised us that the end will come as we are zealously and industriously preaching and teaching throughout the earth! Matthew 24:14

In this last days many evil things is happening around us but if care is not taken we may be tempted to take laws into our hands. The only thing that can make you going strong by then is your focus on everlasting life, you can only preach and teach with mild temper and deep respect you can't force God's rule on them, remember God gave each and everyone of us FREEWILL. Your part is just to warn evildoers to desist {Ezekiel 3:17-18} and even while you do diplomacy is required on your part {1Peter 3:15} otherwise you may infringe on the right of your own child who will seek the support of the government against you for forcing your beliefs on him/her.
