Over 300 female students kidnapped in Zamfara. Most likely in response to the President's statement that he will never consider amnesty for criminals. Please note; Zamfara state governor against all admonition has been acceding to all the demands of the bandits. Granting them amnesty. Paying them. Banning Vigilantes in the state and so on. This is what he got in return. |

youghs:The bastards will simply adapt and start attacking during school hours. These idiots don't even hide, they move around openly abducting and looting. All governors were warned as far back as 2018 that the next crisis will be in the several forest reserves across the country that are the responsibility of the states. Very few of them cared. The federal government is also acting as if they are not bothered when the security of life of every citizen is their duty. |

Whyem15:This is the most sensible post I have seen on Nigeria's contemporary security issues in some time. The culture that caused the neglect is the over-appropriation of security resources by urban dwellers where money is shared. Lagos, Portharcourt, Abuja and a few cities are over-policed for obvious reasons while large tracks of rural areas are not covered. Most of us dwellers of large cities are well educated professionals but we can't think/analyse things properly so it only sentiments about our individual tribes that motivates are thinking |

Armed bandits have attacked a girls secondary school in Zamfara State, kidnapping many female students, the BBC is reporting. The attack reportedly occurred at the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State Friday morning. A teacher in the school confirmed the attack to BBC Hausa with the kidnapped students said to be close to 300. PREMIUM TIMES will provide more details of the incident in subsequent reports. Boko Haram Gives Government A Week Deadline To Free Pastor The Abubakar Shekau led faction of the terror group Boko Haram has given an ultimatum for the release of Bulus Yakuru, a Christian cleric abducted on Christmas eve in Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria. At least seven people were killed when Boko Haram insurgents attacked the village of Pemi in Borno State on Dec. 24 2020, during which the cleric was taken away. Pemi is located approximately 20 kilometres from Chibok, where Boko Haram insurgents had abducted hundreds of schoolgirls. The pastor has previously appeared in two Boko Haram videos days after the abduction in Dec. and early Jan. 2021, where he also pleaded for Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention, Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State and church leaders to rescue him. The demands for his safe release have been communicated to the authorities. In a new video, Pastor Yakuru identified himself and pleaded with Nigeria’s President, Borno State Governor and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the umbrella body of Christians in the country, to intervene and secure his release. In the video, the pastor was given a one-week ultimatum by his abductors, reinstated by a fighter holding a knife standing behind him. The deadline, according to the terrorists, ends next Wednesday. “I’m calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of Borno to help me because I have been given a one-week ultimatum today, Feb. 24,” Yakuru pleaded in the video. “If you want me alive, I beg you in your capacity as President, the governor and our local government chairman to save me from this suffering.” “I’m calling on the EYN Church of the Brethren President to intervene and secure my release. Please pray for me,” the distraught cleric begged. Yakuru also cried to the Christian Association of Nigeria to look at his predicament, saying that he has no powers to free himself “ but depends on them.” “Today is the last day I will have the opportunity to call on you in your capacity as my parents and relatives in the country. Anyone who has the intention should help and save me. Please release me from this pain.” In Jan. 2020, Boko Haram killed Reverend Lawan Andimi, the district chairman of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) in Michika, Adamawa State. https://humangle.ng/boko-haram-gives-government-a-week-deadline-to-free-pastor/ Photo description: Boko Haram captive, Pastor Bulus Yakuru. The government should employ the same tactics used in Borno state in the affected northwestern states. Locals living in isolated hamlets and villages should be encouraged to move to bigger cities and towns and their needs should be catered for in those towns (establishment of IDP camps). Important towns and cities should be heavily garrisoned with law enforcement officers. Trenches should be dug around them to limit access. This will heavily reduce attacks on soft targets that the bandits focus on. The government can then wait for the different factions of the bandits to destroy themselves while stealing resources from each other or use the military for clearance operations. |

The Zamfara State Government has said the number of students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, is unknown. Daily Trust had reported how armed men broke into the school around 1am on Friday. There are reports that over 300 students were abducted from the school. But speaking with Daily Trust, Alhaji Sulaiman Tunau Anka, said the exact number of abducted students is yet to be ascertained. “We are yet to verify the exact number of the students kidnapped. Security operatives have launched a manhunt for the criminals.” “They went to the school with vehicles. Some of the girls were made to trek. We are on top of the situations as all contacts and efforts are being made to rescue the kidnapped schoolgirls,” he said. The abduction happened hours after the state government said some repentant bandits had surrendered their arms. Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has been pushing for a dialogue with bandits for peace to reign. The federal government is yet to react to the latest kidnap incident. When students and staff of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State, were abducted on February 17, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed security agencies to ensure their immediate release. However, the victims are still in captivity. https://dailytrust.com/zamfara-govt-we-dont-know-the-number-of-abducted-schoolgirls |

The new Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, has disbanded a tactical unit of the Command known as Eagle Crack Squad with immediate effect. This came barely 48-hours after an undergraduate at the University of Port Harcourt identified as Victor revealed how an officer with the tactical unit forgot his mobile phone in his car after extorting him of N150, 000 at gunpoint. Victor had alleged that the policeman stopped his car at Rumuologu axis of the East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State, seized his phone and threatened to shoot him if he failed to part with a said sum, and forced him to a location to use an ATM which he complied with. The commissioner in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, ordered the men of the now-disbanded unit to report to the headquarters at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt. The statement reads, “The Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, has dissolved the Eagle Crack Squad. This was done this morning after a meeting with his Management Team. “The dissolution is coming on the heels of complaints of unprofessional conduct exhibited by the Personnel of the Unit. “Recall that the CP in his maiden Press briefing on Tuesday, February 24, 2021, promised to address all cases of infractions by the police and increase supervision of the men, with a stern warning to deal with erring officers and hold the DPOs/HODs vicariously liable. “The dissolution is with immediate effect and all Personnel attached to the unit are to report to the Headquarters for redeployment. “The public is hereby enjoined to rekindle their trust in the Police, as the Command is committed to giving them improved Policing services that will stand the test of time.” https://punchng.com/rivers-cp-disbands-tactical-squad-after-operatives-extorted-undergraduate/ |
