NAF LAYS TO REST REMAINS OF FLIGHT LIEUTENANT HARUNA GADZAMA, 6 OTHERS AT NATIONAL MILITARY CEMETERY ABUJA The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 25 February 2021, laid to rest the remains of 7 of its personnel who died on 21 February 2021 in an air crash involving a NAF Beechcraft King Air B350i aircraft in Abuja. The late gallant personnel were Flight Lieutenant Haruna Gadzama, Flight Lieutenant Henry Piyo, Flying Officer Michael Okpara, Warrant Officer Bassey Etim, Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi, Sergeant Ugochukwu Oluka and Aircraftman Adewale Johnson. The burial ceremony, which was conducted with full military honours, was held at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja with restricted attendance in compliance with COVID-19 protocols. Speaking at the Ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, stated that the NAF was still in palpable shock and intense grief over the loss of the gallant and courageous heroes, in whom, he said, the Service had so much confidence. “We salute the supreme sacrifice of these young men, whose lot it became to give their lives in the defence of the peace which we all enjoy and often take for granted”, he added. The CAS noted that their death was a huge loss to the NAF family and indeed the entire Country, stating that they would be greatly missed but fondly remembered for their invaluable services to the Nation and humanity. He remarked further that the young officers and airmen flew their quota of ongoing surveillance missions in the North East, North West and more recently in the North Central over Niger State and its environs in connection with the concerted efforts to secure the release of the staff and students abducted from the Government Science College Kagara, Niger State. Speaking further, the CAS stated that the loss of the confident and professional young officers and airmen must spur the rest of the personnel not only to rededicate themselves to the service of the Nation, but also to resolve that they would relentlessly expose and fight all agents of destabilisation and extremism in the society. According to him, “we must throw everything that we have into this fight, to ensure that our departed colleagues did not die in vain.” While praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of the fallen heroes, AVM Amao condoled all NAF personnel, the families of the deceased and the entire Nation, whom, he said, the late personnel represented and fought earnestly to protect. The CAS further restated the commitment and unalloyed loyalty of the NAF to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his efforts at tackling the security challenges facing the Nation. Key moments of the solemn event were the presentation of National Colours to the deceased’s Next-of-Kins by the CAS, laying of wreaths by dignitaries and the wife of Flying Officer Micheal Okpara, Mrs Chioma Okpara, as well as the customary 21-Gun Salute and rendition of "the Last Post". The Faith service was earlier conducted by Group Captain (Reverend) Dogo Gani, Director Chaplaincy (Protestant) Headquarters NAF and Group Captain (Reverend) Philip Kwasau, Director Chaplaincy (Roman Catholic) Headquarters NAF before the caskets were lowered into the graves. Dignitaries at the burial ceremony included the Special Guest of Honour for the solemn ocassion, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Magashi (retired); the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi; Chairman Senate Committee on Air Force, Distinguished Senator Bala Ibn Na’ Allah; Chairman House Committee on Air Force, Honourable Shehu Koko; Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen; Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo; National President Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs Elizabeth Amao; as well as serving and retired senior military officers, family members and friends of the deceased personnel, amongst other dignitaries. To be frank, the minister of Defense, NSA, DG DSS and the heads of other intelligence agencies needs to go. And then maybe a foreign police head should be contracted to reform the Federal Police. No one currently in that system can achieve any meaningful progress reforming that agency. Few months ago, the issue was lack of cooperation among the branches of the military, that has been resolved and the missing link now is intelligence. Then law enforcement too. In fact I rarely see the DG of DSS and other intelligence agencies in any of the security meetings involving the president. Security meetings between the president and the governors is also almost non-existent. It is even as if there isn't any national security plan to confront the current and developing challenges. What exactly is the usefulness of the NSA. And then, the military, especially the army needs to increase their numbers. |

I don't know why the APC can't beg GMB to step aside, is it really compulsory for him to rule Nigeria cause everything just dey fall apart. Northerners have stop supplying tomatoes, onions and beans to the south west. When we reciprocate, I hope DSS no go sha show their yama yama face ![]() |

Whyem15:I agree with you except the hiring of a foreign expert, you might as well hire them to reform the useless police. The president body language and appointments in this agencies is the cause. If the president gives matching orders and benchmark for this agencies, they will wake up, as well as making his appointment devoid of nepotism. |

The NAF can embark on a drone operation to terrorize the bandits by systemic elimination of their leaders. They know where this criminals are, they can work with other intelligence agencies to get real time Intel on the ground with drones on air 24/7 and when the opportunity presents itself, they strike out the leaders. Then they follow up by taking down whoever volunteers to lead after. |

You do understand they can do more than one things at once right? It's like saying students are kidnaped, so let's move every single police officer within the country and dispatch them to look for the kidnapped victims, while other ongoing crimes are ignored. Is that what you are saying? I hope not. tutudesz: |

Sizzorkay:I never said the police or other security agencies should stop doing their jobs because of the kidnapped students, I only question the timing of such arrest. Sunday has been quiet for some time now and the attempted arrest has created more tension. That arrest could've trigger riots all over SouthWest. |

Whyem15:Reason why we shouldnt discard the idea of procuring more drones. As it is, we don't realise what the military is up against. Multi prong 24hrs surveillance will be pretty difficult to sustain with manned aircrafts. This shit will get more messy as the presidency is also growing impatient. |

The Department of State Services (DSS) had earlier denied arresting the Media Aide to Governor Ganduje of Kano State, Salihu Tanko Yakasai over his comments against the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. There were fears that Mr. Yakasai could also disappear into thin air just like another critic of government, Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata. Authorities of the State Security Services have confirmed that Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former aide of Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje is in their custody. The announcement follows heightened apprehension in the polity following the declaration by the Kano office of the SSS that it was not aware of the arrest of Mr. Yakasai, otherwise known as Dawisu on Twitter. The whereabouts of Mr. Yakasai who was picked in a Gestapo style became a subject of controversy as the government initially kept mum on the arrest. Commentators on social media feared that Mr. Yakasai could also disappear into thin air just like another critic of government, Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata who was reportedly picked by state agents and his whereabouts remaining unknown 574 days after. However, a statement by Peter Afunanya, SSS spokesman, on Saturday evening has now affirmed that the APC faithful-turned-critic is being held in their facility. “This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the Department of State Services. He is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,” the statement reads. Mr. Yakasai had called for the resignation of the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC government over gross breakdown of security in the wake of the abduction of over 300 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara. The tweet that triggered government’s swoop on Mr. Yakasai read: “Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives & properties. Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign.” Peoples Gazette Is now becoming a crime to criticize GMB ![]() See what an agency that's suppose to be gathering intelligence, arresting very dangerous criminals like wakili(A job which OPC is gallantly leading from the front), arresting and killing bandits and terrorist leaders lowkey, Nipping serious crime in the bud before they take place, etc see wetin dem don become for Nigeria ![]() |
