“Nigeria’s problems rest with the behaviour of people who fill key positions.” These "people in positions" na gravel full their brain! Can't u guys think of making the environment beautiful, decent and habitable? Idiots! Mind u police or even teacher or gateman is a key position, Politician is not the only key position |

Because the British choose to handover power and the military to a tribe that lacks the intellectual capacity to rule a complex multi-ethnic and multi-religious entity like Nigeria. All they know is corruption, nepotism and religious bigotry. Meanwhile a lot of towns and areas in their part of the country are massively underdeveloped, some in a worse off state than the condition they were in 1960. They don't value education, no plans on how to develop or progress and lift millions of their unemployed youths from poverty. All they care about is Niger Delta oil. Now their region is being plagued by banditry, terrorism, poverty and gradual famine due to the increasing Sahara Desert encroachment. They have ruled Nigeria the most out of all tribes and have nothing to show for it in their region in terms of education or massive technological development. It's a simple case of poor rulers. Nigerians excel everywhere they are globally. Best doctors, scientists, sportsmen, engineers, artisans, statesmen and leaders. Nigerian-Americans are the most educated and professionally one of the most successful ethnic groups in America. They excel because they have a stable and enabling environment which values merit & hard-work and not nepotism or quota system. |

iwaeda:By all means, present a one-sided, fraudulent narrative. It's Nigerian disease. The same Okonjo-Iweala who now 'rules the world' was in charge of Nigeria's economy between 2011 and 2015. She sat on her fat ãss and watched quietly while Jonathan and his whōres robbed Nigeria's treasury to the brink of bankruptcy, all because she did not want to lose her high-profile job as finance minister. |

Nigerians are by no means ruling the world. A few Nigerian's are at the top of their game sound's more appropriate, for every good Nigerian there are millions of useless one's to keep the group backwards, that's even if there's any group think in the first place. That's Nigeria, the foolish are in charge of other foolish people and the smart have carved out their existence away from the Nigerian experience. It's going get a lot worse because of the grave misplacement of priorities, lack of ambition and general idiotic tendencies of the citizens. |

Just check from the date that Nigeria gain her independent till present day Nigeria has been rule by incompetent and crast leaders exception of 2 that seems civilized in modern day leadership......... GEJ and Umaru Yaradua of blessed memory and more so the greater problems about 75% of this beloveth country is the quality of followership |

while your points are salient,I think it goes beyond smartness...You don't draw a plan with the next man that can easily be bought over with money.. Nigerian can switch lane if the price is right, not minding the positives of your plans...So I am an advocate of value system...I lecture people everywhere i find myself that corruption is not Nigerias problem but our value system. When we get it right then the country will be ok...just start from your kids...quote author=Queenlovely post=99596461]The curse of knowledge Nigerians are not smart, Smart people can always find a way out of any dilemma. It's like chess. Nigerians are just book smart but not street smart. They still cling to conservative ways to solving problem. To boot out politicians from office, you have to use unconventional means, don't follow the crowd. independent thought is what Nigerians don't have. French, American, Europe, Russian, China etc are enjoying progress today because their ancestors made sacrifice for their children to enjoy tommorow. Running to foreign land is not smartness but personal gain to earn income. Forget it these people are not smart. Ask any Nigerian that graduated from Harvard how to save Nigeria. They will give you the old answers we already know. Answers that lead to nowhere. and a lot of complaining will follow. One more thing is judge a man by what he does and not what he says he will do. Action is louder than voice. knowing and doing are not the same thing. if you know you must apply. The solution to our problem must not necessarily start from the top, let us start from the bottom. one Community at a time. don't overlook Community. Facebook, Microsoft, PayPal,etc did not just start out as great, Facebook started from Harvard classmates,if they had started with a large crowd, they would have failed, start small, one Community at a time and you will be amazed by what you can achieve. Even if we have all these perfect men as leaders, change must also start from the grassroots, If Nigerians don't change nothing will change. China does not play with the grassroots. they don't ignore local leaders. What we are doing is chest beating, Some people don't even know where Nigeria is on the map. we are not great, forget these propaganda, Half of Cuba citizens are doctors, Cuba exports medical services more than any country in the world, yet they don't boast. let us just calm down and do our homework and see how things will fall into place. one step at a time
|

Check very well, Nigerian citizens ruling the world are Southerners. The country is in a rut because the north keeps pulling the rest of us back in every sense. End Nigeria now and save lives and destinies. It's that simple. |

The trouble with Nigeria is squarely the failure of leadership. Professor Chiano Achebe of blessed memory postulate. However, aside failure of leadership, there is ongoing clandestine agenda by a particular tribe to subjugate the rest of tribes in Nigeria. |

CharlesRyder:True. Our dishonesty is disgusting. A woman that we saw her shameful attitude to work as a minister during a senate hearing just a few years ago. Also, see as most of them are trying to sound smart by claiming it's our leaders lol. What an excuse! Are your leaders from the moon? Hire an average Nigerian to handle a business and his first temptation and advice from friends is how to 'hammer'. What do you expect when he is a government appointee or elected official? We are the problem and politicians are part of us. Our attitude is sickening and our people are largely shortsighted. You want a better nation, start with yourself. A few appointments here and there doesn't mean you rule the world. |

Simple answer (which some may not like but i'd say it anyway): a part of the country (the more progressive, competitive and achieving southern part) has been enslaved, controlled and is being ruled by another part (the retrogressive, non-competitive, feudalistic, vindictive, bigoted, nepotistic and less educationally advanced core muslim north led by the Fulani)! This is the simple answer! I can't speak for other ethnicities in the south and middle-belt, but i have every confidence in a Igbo or Biafra republic to be able to achieve monumental socio-economic success, and be a country to reckon within the comity of nations, within just 15 years of coming in to being! Can't say the same for 'one Nigeria'! |

The o.p must be ibo, always chestbeating and blowing own trumpet. The positions occupied by Nigerians are few and bad leadership and bad followership made it so. A single tree a forest does not make. |

Nigeria Is Stuck In A Rut, Yet Its Citizens Rule The World. Why?You may have indirectly answerd your quenion. Perhaps if the Citizens stopped Ruling The World, they may rule Nigeria better. If Wizkid had invested the money he built mansion in Ghana on Nigeria’s talented street children, Nigeria would be one tiny little bit better for it. A well tailored suit is held together by the accumulation of tiny little stitches. |

iwaeda:Too simple! Nigeria is too fragmented! Nigeria is made up of hundreds of nation's, two dominant religions all competing selfishly for scarce resources. Nepotism is King. Corruption is worshipped because you don't know when it's going to be your turn again. When these factors are removed (outside the nation), Nigerians naturally Excel. This is it |

CharlesRyder:Will you shut up! You must be a northern/Buhari/APC apologist furious that your god, his useless party and his core north region are receiving much of the blame for the position Nigeria is in today....and rightly so to, if i may add! Nigeria (a country that had been mismanaged by the core muslim north from the late 60s up till 1999) was beginning to make modest but noticeable progress in socio-economic development during the time the likes of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Prof Soludo were in gov't! One could begin to see the rise of a middle-class in Nigeria (the class that actually drives development in any country) and majority of Nigerians were more comfortable when compared to their situation today! It's obvious to all, except Buhari/APC minions, that things started going south at an astronomical speed the moment the core muslim north rigged their way back into power in 2015 to reclaim their 'birthright'! All developmental indices that were making a steady rise began to head south the moment Buhari took over and began to fill all critical and lucrative posts with his people! Today, the economic and social dislocation being witnessed in the country is unprecedented and Nigeria has now become a economic disaster and a land flowing with rivers of blood! Aunty Ngozi is by no means perfect, and would probably have made some mistakes along the way! But whatever negatives one could point out during her time in gov't (and governing such a complex and divided society like Nigeria is no walk in the park, i'll tell you that) didn't occur for nepotistic, vindictive, tribalistic and corruption reasons as is presently the case with the disaster we have in gov't today! |
