BIOGRAPHY
Sir Chinedu Kanayochukwu Odebeatu was born on the 19th of July 1976 at Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria to the family of Late Sir Ernest Odebeatu and Lady Gloria Odebeatu. He was the second of six children by his parents. Sir Chinedu was married to Lady Ngozi Odebeatu (Nee Onuekwusi) from Obosi and they have five (5) children.

EDUCATION

Sir Dr. Chinedu Odebeatu attended WTC Primary School Enugu for his primary school education. He started his secondary school education at College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC) Enugu and had to relocate to Awka with the family after the creation of Anambra and Enugu States. Shortly afterwards, he returned to Enugu to continue his education. He got admission into the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu to study Business Administration and Management. He had a very interesting time at IMT. He was an all -rounder and was involved in a lot of student activities while in school. He came out at the top of his class, was the class representative, was involved in student union politics and leadership, belonged to numerous student bodies including being the president of the Obosi Students Association amongst others.

He carried out a lot of volunteer activities and offered many tutorial classes for his cohorts and the junior sets in many of the tough courses in their faculty. He successfully graduated top of his class in both his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) from 1994 to 1996 and Higher National Diploma (HND) from 1997 to 1999 with Upper Credit classification. Years after a successful National Youth Service Corp at Abuja (2000) and having started a career in the Nigeria Banking Industry, he went back to school at The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) and enrolled for his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (2005 to 2007). He further proceeded to earn his Master’s degree in Human Resource Management (2009 -2011) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Management (2015 to 2019) in the same institution, Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

His quest for education led him to further enroll into a Post Graduate Degree in Education (PGDE) at Nsukka in 2014 and subsequently at graduation got inducted into the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). This made him qualify as a teacher and educationist and eventually led to him founding The Tender Links Schools, Trans-Ekulu Enugu in early 2015. This school has grown to be a strong and reputable one around Enugu metropolis within a very short time of its existence.

CAREER

On graduating from IMT, Sir Chinedu was deployed to the FCT Abuja to serve under the National Youth Service Corp in 2000. He meritoriously served at The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) headquarters Abuja emerging as the best corper and was offered a permanent position on completion of the mandatory one-year service. As fate will have it, he also got many other offers but decided to settle for a banking career job offer from the then Intercontinental Bank PLC (now part of Access Bank PLC) as a Relationship Manager in 2001. He was posted to the bank’s first and newly commissioned Enugu Old Park Branch as one of their pioneer staff. He quickly distinguished himself as the Relationship Manager of choice in Enugu amongst his peers and across the banking industry at Enugu and beyond. He rose through the ranks and in 2008 when an opportunity presented itself, he took a management position at First Bank of Nigeria Enugu branch. Again, at the new position, he kept breaking the records and rose to senior management position becoming the Senior Manager/Business Development Manager in charge of The Nnewi Business Development Office. A position he held until his untimely demise. He was exceptional at his job that he was selected in the bank’s pioneer senior leadership talent hunt and participated in the senior leadership programme where he also received awards from the bank’s Chief Executive Officer as a member of the winning team in the cohorts closing activities.

Dr. Chinedu belonged to a number of professional associations. He was an Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (ACIPM), Associate Chartered Economist (ACE); Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), amongst many others. He was an active and committed member in the Anambra State Chapter of the CIPM and presented a number of professional presentations and webinars. He was also a management scholar and published a number of technical peer-reviewed articles in international and national journals.

RELIGIOUS & SOICAL LIFE

Sir Chinedu was a very devoted Christian and Anglican. Right from childhood, he has always been within the church premises participating in one church event or the other. He belonged to many church societies starting from the Boys Brigade and APA (Anglican Praying Association) at childhood to Choir, Youth Fellowship at teenage to early adulthood and numerous groups as an adult. In all these societies, he held many leadership positions and positively impacted and contributed to the success of most of them at the time he was with them. Of particular interest was his love for music and music equipments. Sir Chinedu was known in the Brigade as a trumpeter around Anambra and Enugu even up to his university days. He played the keyboard, saxophone and virtually every music equipment you can find in the church. He was so dedicated and contributed his services to the Enugu/Nike Dioceses that he was installed as a Knight of St Christopher at a very young age of 33 years in 2009 by the retired Lord Bishop of Nike Diocese, Rt. Revd. Evans Ibeagha (Rtd). He was the head of the Finance Sub-Committee of the Nike Council of Knights and their organist too. He was a Jerusalem Pilgrim having participated in holy pilgrimages twice (in 2014 and 2017) to the holy grounds of Jerusalem. He held his Christian faith so dearly and strongly up to the point of his death. In his current church, St. Andrew’s Basilica Trans-Ekulu Enugu, he was a member of the Parochial Church Committee (PCC) and also belongs to the church’s Group 5 zone where he had been their one-time Chairman and until his death their Financial Secretary.

As a socialite, Sir Chinedu (Ugo-Oba na Obosi) is a man of the people. He was well known everywhere he went and was always available to help and progress the course of mankind in all he got involved with. He always left a mark and people were always willing to have him on their side and in leadership positions. He belonged to a lot of social clubs and groups, too numerous to mention here. He was a member of the Enugu Sports Club, Enugu Chamber of Commerce (currently their Treasurer until his death), CIC Old Boys Association, Class of 93 (CICOBA) and was their National Vice President until his death, Club C94 and Club 29 and many others.

Not forgetting his roots, he was an active member of Obosi Development Union (ODU) Enugu Branch and the Obosi Youth Forum (OYF) Enugu and served them in various capacities over the years.

LAST DAYS

In the first week of February 2021, Sir Chinedu had a brief illness which led to him being hospitalized for the first time ever. Unfortunately, on the morning of Saturday 6th of February 2021 amidst emergency medical attention, Sir Chinedu while singing and praying eventually gave up the ghost. His demise was a very painful and unexpected one for everyone that he left behind but we have solace that he is now resting with our Lord and Maker.
