Kano Lady, Saadat Aliyu Develops Android App For Reporting Rape Cases by BLAISECAMPAORE(op): 11:23am On Mar 09, 2021

A Kano-Born Fulani young lady, Saadat Aliyu has developed an android application ‘Helpio App’ for reporting cases of sexual abuse.

‘Helpio App’ was launched on August 6, 2020, on Playstore.

Ms Aliyu who is the founder of Shamrock Innovations, Women and Youth-Centric Tech Innovation Hub in Kano, said that any person can visit Playstore on an android phone and install the app.

“You can go to the Play store, search for it and install it. After installation, you can sign up using email and password either in Hausa or English language,” she told Channels Television on Monday.

“So far the Initiative for Support of Victims of Sexual abuse, Orphans and Less privileged (ISSOL) and Equity Destitute, Child Right and Welfare initiative (EDCRAWI) have signed up in the platform.”

She recalled that she started learning IT skills from her brother when she was in junior secondary school and subsequently became a self-taught developer.

The young lady said her next project will be launched very soon and is fintech-oriented conceived to continue making an impact on women and people’s lives by advocating and developing solutions.

Law enforcement agencies whose support channels on social medial handlers are counterproductive or what?

This beauty with brains did a good work, but the country isn't worth it. A country announcing sth launched nine months ago nine months after isn't worth it.

One of the main benefits I forsee would be the anonymity that victims will have that will embolden them to report without shame or fear of stigma.

Another benefit will be the ability to upload fresh evidence soon as it happens to help investigations. The option of Hausa language for non-English speakers is another plus.

Very welcome, brilliant and timely initiative from our Arewa sister. Fulani Amaka!

I see the hishba commander who was caught sleeping with a married woman banning this app and forcefully checking females phones and threatening them to delete it or risk being arrested and raped, I see the app making waves in Southern Nigeria I see rape cases reducing drastically in southern Nigeria. This I have seen.
