An American medical study has revealed that at least two people who have contracted coronavirus worldwide have experienced priapism as a side effect.

Priapism occurs when men have erections lasting longer than four hours, with experts admitting it could be a new side effect of COVID-19.

As part of a study published by the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, two cases of this side effect have been recorded globally.

The first case happened in Miami, Florida, when a 69-year-old man suffered from priapism when he was receiving treatment for COVID-19 in intensive care.

Health workers tried to put an end to the erection for four hours but were unable to do so. They were eventually forced to remove the excess blood with a syringe. The patient went on to die from COVID-19.

The second case was found in Versailles, France, where health workers had to extract blood from a 62-year-old man who was suffering with a prolonged erection. In the end, this patient survived and overcame his COVID-19 infection a few days later.
