What Are The OPC Members Being Detained For? by mrkunlex(m): 3:00pm On Mar 09, 2021
Till now, Oyo Police commissioner, Onadeko has refused to release the OPC members detained 3days ago, for capturing Wakili.
According to the Police press release, burning a criminal's house is arson and killing an accomplice of
a known criminal is murder.
What are the OPC members being detained for?
Their offences according to the Police are:
1. They burnt Wakili's house.
2. An unidentified woman, who was living with Wakili got burnt in the house.
However, OPC had denied burning house or killing any woman during the process of arresting Wakili.
Matter Arising:
Who is Wakili?
A Fulani bandit leader.
What did people say about Wakili?
He is a violent man, who forcefully occupied lands without permission of the owners.
He had been plundering farmlands with cattles for over 18 years.
He had recruited armed militias who kidnapped people for ransom.
He had sacked some villages and dispersed villagers.
He had killed innocent people.
His team had raped women both young and old.
Among several other atrocities.
Were Police aware?
Yes. Police were fully aware of Wakili and his atrocities, but were powerless to confront him.
Why?
Police lack political will and technical know-how to combat the fully armed Wakili and his team.
Who invited OPC to combat Wakili?
The Ibarapa traditional rulers, the farmers, the youths, the students and stakeholders. Because they had got tired of atrocities perpetrated by Wakili and government had not come to their rescue.
Then, OPC members went ahead and apprehended Wakili. They first had to disarm him. They had decided not to take laws into their hands by killing him, but obeyed the constitution, and handed over Wakili, unharmed to Police.
Now the questions to ask Police are:
Who really deserves sympathy and compensation between option A & B?
A.) Innocent farmers who had lost their properties and loved ones at the hand of Wakili?
B.) Wakili, his house and his people?
OPC had done what Police couldn't do. So they deserve to be celebrated and not vilified.

Maybe Murder, illegal arrest and detention, they are on their way to being prosecuted, if they proscribed them for terrorising innocent, frail, old and blind wakili then they may turn to full blown outlaw that's only when it will make sense
