I will answer this ya question when they convict maina and sentence him to jail like others

I'm not in support of corruption but against buhari's selectional prosecution and conviction of looters ...... No core northern muslim looter has been convicted since 2015

Stop talking nonsense.dariye's case started in 2007.he was only jailed in 2018 finally.almost if not all cases involving ex governors started under pdp not buhari.your name is affecting you.

Let me introduce you to pi network
Pi is a new form.of cryptocurrency ,just like bitcoin in its early stage in2008 it's being mined for free now.and the process of mining it is stress free.all you need to do is download the app sign up and click a button once every 24hrs.
Though the cryptocurrency has no value now till it's listed in stock market/exchange by the need of 2021.
But untill then people are mining it for free and accumulating pi coin and it has over 13million plus users and counting.
Mining might stop at anytime because the coreteam are developing pi wallet and market places when they are done,it will stop.
So download the app and start mining,it will not take you more than 5sec of your time everyday to do so for a brighter future when it actually becomes reality. And don't forget to verify your number or Facebook by going to your profile in the app.by doing this ,you will not loose your earning when pi goes to exchnange,
If you are interested, download Pi app from play store and enter my invite code (pst4sam) on sign-up

What did you say when she Acquitted OUK?

She was actually right there.the acja cannot override the constitution.she ordered a retrial and ouk will still be nailed.but for dariye,he is guilty and commonsense demands that the sentence should be heavy to discourage looting.maybe because her husband too is a looter and dariye's contemporary

Judiciary arm of government is the number 1 problem of this country. If people know there will be firm consequences for their actions, they will certainly behave.

This judgement is another classic example of how the judiciary arm of government encourages corruption. Look at Kalu's case, look at Dariye's case. International communities will feel sorry for us as a nation. The Judiciary must always look for a reason to free any convicted politicians. So sad!!

Keep praying Nigeria will be better with all the existing recklessness. Keep insulting Buhari as if he is the judiciary arm of Govt. If Nigeria was a business, it would have gone bankrupt the way she was being run.

Please what is the source of your story, how can mods bring a story without source to the frontpage?
The Supreme Court didn't dismiss the 10 year jail term, rather they affirmed it and dismissed dhe two year jail term.
Please check your story and stop misinforming your readers.

Thanks for this. I was actually relieved. Corruption has reduced Nigeria to zero. If our judiciary is strong, most of the people will think twice before committing an offence.

Nairaland should remove this thread as it is very misleading

In other words, he will only serve a jail term of 2 years but won't change the fact that he's convicted and will remain an ex-convict till a superior court says otherwise or get pardoned.

The question is "will he still be allowed back into the hallowed chamber as an ex-convict after serving his terms

Why wont Justice Mary Odili have leniency on Dariye? They all belong to Corruption Republic. It's kindred recognition. How do you expect an Odili to view with seriousness corruption against a Dariye? Haba, they are all members of the Ex-Governors and looters extended family.
You are right, but then he was just a wife to a Governor.

Hmmmm, this is not good for the judiciary, someone that embezzled that amount of money will still have is jail term reduced, they are just encouraging corruption, that's why corruption won't end in every sector.

Who else remember that dariye was once doing door to door evangelism around zaramangada, jos so many years before he became governor.

May we that start our lives taking to God not end our lives seeking the witches of endor like Saul for direction.

I recall those days his funny wife ,Valentina disturbing the plateau airwaves daily with " my dear Joshua.....'

May God not give us an enemy for a wife cos she will leads to jail.

Jerry boy was nigeri's vp & a lady leading d prayer@ d then col temlong 50th birthday party 0n Feb 28,1998 was bold enough ,warning Jerry not to lean on the arm of flesh as it is bound to fail.who knows the Lady?.that;s the kind of lady intending governors should marry.

this dariye was already richer than 90 percent of jos residents before he became governor, yet all he enjoys is stealing the poor plateau's money away into his london's account aided by rogue bankers ,those short guys/bank managers in all states and intercontinental and the 2 rogues banks are also extinct.please do honest labour.dont end your term in the palace in jail at old age.

a whole dariye begging the lawyer he must have called charge and bail lawyer when he was governor for mercies.now you know tables do turn.e se aiye ire.

This is the correct version of the news:

Supreme court affirms 10 year jail sentence for former Governor of Plateau state, Joshua Dariye

Supreme court affirms 10 year jail sentence for former Governor of Plateau state, Joshua Dariye

The 10-year jail term handed to former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye after being convicted for criminal misappropriation and criminal breach of trust, was on Friday March 12 affirmed by the Supreme Court.

Dariye who was convicted for reportedly looting N2billion public funds during his time as Plateau State governor between 1999 and 2007, had been elected as the senator representing Plateau Central in the Nigerian Senate in 2015. He was however sentenced in June 2018 but still completed his tenure as a senator from jail in June 2019.

A federal high court in Abuja had on June 12, 2018 convicted Mr Dariye and originally sentenced him to 14 years’ imprisonment on charges of criminal breach of trust and two years’ jail term for criminal misappropriation.

But following his appeal against the judgment, the Court of Appeal in Abuja on November 16, 2018, commuted the 14 years’ jail term to 10. The former governor had further appealed to the Supreme Court.

The five-man panel of the Supremecourt headed by Mary Odili on Friday, however upheld the ex-governor’s conviction in respect of criminal breach of trust which attracted the 10-year jail term.

His conviction for criminal misappropriation was quashed, but it had no impact on his overall number of years of imprisonment as it attracted two years’ imprisonment.

Anytime I see Mary Odili heading any panel at the Supreme Court, I congratulate the politicians on trial especially when it involves corruption cases.
