Your Subsidy Saga Experience. by toluxa1(m): 3:36pm On Jan 17, 2012
January will definitely be a month to remember for a lot of families and individuals. For me personally it was not extremely bad but I heard of families who had really terrible experiences (apart from the one's who lost loved ones in the protests.). At a point in time, food got completely exhausted in my house. The gas finished. No where to buy food or anything (as a result of a 24hr curfew here in Minna). We found an old stove in the gaurd's room and a woman agreed to sell keresene to us at N240 PER BOTTLE shocked . It was terrible. We used our last money to buy that and a few other extremely high-priced items (thank God I was able to smuggle myself to a cousins house in the middle of the night to get a few cups of rice. cheesy). I got to barb my hair this morning (before now, I was looking like prophet Elijah. . . lol).

Well, its not passed tense now (i think). But the truth is, I kinda had fun at the same time. It was more like an adventure. I really enjoyed all the jokes and funny pictures made from the subsidy saga. Its interesting that Nigerians find time and space to make fun of almost every situation they come across (I have even seen some Boko Haram jokes cool). I am even kind of missing the whole thing like now. . . .lol. Its such a pity that a few lives were lost during this time (RIP sad).

God bless Nigeria.

Describe your own experience.

PS: Just to spoil this post, I am Pro-Subsidy Removal.

My experience on nairaland was exciting as well as annoying sometimes; people should learn the rules of engagement with regards to public discourse. There were a lot of half truths and outright lies which tends to create distortion. Most people could not come up with a long term strategy and in the end the inevitable happened with the resistance crashing like a park of cards. The tribal angle sure left a bitter taste; Nigeria has a long way to go.

I fully participated in the version in my area tagged #occupyamuwo, the first day brought all of us together. Some of us met on twitter and some of us met right there on the spot. We were driven by a single goal and we spoke with one voice.
It continued the second day but ambitious policemen fired tear gas at us.
The third day got bigger when the indigenes of the area got us a stage and a deejay as a way to encourage us to keep the good work we started. It went like that till friday with all artistes living around there coming to perform and speak against subsidy removal, we also attracted the media and labour was there on the third day to speak to us
Overall it was an eye opener and I made new friends with similar goals and we will continue in our own way, we are planning something bigger.
I communicate frequently with my new friends and we will tackle the ills around us while waiting for the gains from this current government (if there is any)
