Laura Ikeji’s Focus: On Getting Married To A Man With Grown Kids. by Nobody: 8:21am On Mar 16, 2021
When the news of Laura Ikeji-Kanu’s engagement broke into the media space sometime in 2016, a lot of people were wondering how exactly did Laura pull up such stunt. Quite frankly, most people had no idea about Laura’s husband-to-be until her big sister, Linda Ikeji, made a post about the engagement and mentioned that he was the younger brother to an ace Nigerian football maestro, Nwankwo Kanu and, he himself was a one-time footballer. By January 2017, Laura and Ogbonna Kanu got married.

Barely few years into the marriage and with a son, Ryan Ogbonna Kanu, already between the couple, pictures of Ogbonna Kanu and his two grown kids from his previous relationship started flying round the internet. Definitely, it got a lot of people wondering and asking series of questions like – didn’t Laura know her husband had two young children before venturing into the marriage institution with him? Or, was she blinded by the fame and popularity that graces the Kanu’s family just cos she wanted to climb up the social ladder and be more famous than she already is? Well, you answer that within yourself because, no one knows exactly why Laura did what she did.

But, from the amazing relationship she shares with her man, you can tell that she obviously must’ve been briefed about his previous relationships and how the two kids came about. She also (most likely) bonded well with the kids before she and Ogbonna’s relationship got to the next stage. The most important factor here is how well she (Laura) gets on with her step children and how these kids also get on with their half siblings. This is not to say that there wouldn’t have been any squabbles in between but, she must really be good at keeping her home front in one piece.

A lot of people might not want to agree with this but, this kinda grace doesn’t work well for everybody. Not everyone will be comfortable with settling with a man or woman who’s had kids from a previous relationship. The bottom line is find your space and dwell in it. Know what works for you and stick to it. Don’t go ahead and marry a man/woman who has kids when you know you won’t be able to curtail the barrage of squabbles that comes with it. Don’t be blinded by love and plunge into a union that’ll forever make you live in regrets. Make sound decisions today as regards marriage cos, if you choose to act otherwise, your incoming generations just might pay dearly for the consequences of your actions.

SINCERITY MOMENT: Will you marry a man/woman who’s had a child/children from a previous relationship OR marriage? If yes OR no, give your reasons in the comment section below.
