Thank you so much. I just got the scholarship back yesterday, so my deficit has been reduced to about $21,000 from $38,000. Hopefully, that makes my case stronger. I'll also do more research to give better answers to the questions. Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement, I pray the next interview goes much better.

Sorry for the denial. I think it was just bad luck and cant think of anything particularly wrong with what you posted. Your answers all seem genuine. Try again, you may be lucky if you get more funding. Reach out to the school, let them know you will try again. I strongly believe you will be successful the next go around. You are young. Truthfully the interviewers consider everyone an immigrant until proven otherwise. They just want to be sure that the person has a good head on their shoulders, wont drop out of school or be a burden to the society which you dont come across as given your high scores.
-maybe next time research the school, and a particular professor or aspect of the degree that is unique to the program and give that as a reason for choosing the school. Pray before the interview, see yourself smiling and having a pleasant conversation with the VO. Maintain a friendly demeanor even if they try to throw you off your game. Try again. You will get it.

It is your choice however, it will be great to avoid visa challenges if you have a profile stunning to get you what you want and make your visa application easier.
Based on your scores, you can check schools in your states of interest and look through each requirement particularly for Honors College. I have a few friends who did their undergraduate studies here in various public schools on full ride and near full ride including tuition, fees, books, and boarding.
Thank you! Yes, I know how much easier it would be to get a visa with a full-ride, but however this pans out, hopefully, it'd be for the best.

Hi potken

Immigrant intent (planning to use your visa to overstay or remain in the US with the possibility of not returning to your country) is the major reason of 214b denial , so it does not mean that your family applied for immigration visa.

All my other suggestions is based on reasoning. The consular asked you some questions she was not supposed to ask an 18 year old undergraduate applicant, which probably means she was reading some complications in your ds 160 eg ; Are you married ? Anyways i am wishing you good luck.

G.
I see what you mean, thank you very much. I'll go through the DS160 again and make sure the information is accurate.

Can you reapply for Fall 2025? You have such a good profile to be paying for the full cost of attendance at a US college considering the cost to your parents. I will say this is a good time to look for potential schools that can give you a free ride. When you come in, if the school has nursing, you can change or switch schools thereafter. Utilize your great profile. You are good enough to be educated on at least a near full ride.
Your explanation on honors college is not good enough. Honors college gives you more privileges such as research, one on one tutoring/mentoring with top professors, scholarships etc.
The school I'm going to offers a lot of scholarships to currently enrolled students through their scholarship web, and even more for honors college students, so I'm not sure if it's worth it. Honestly, I had no idea how this US college application process worked when I started last year, and I'm just realizing how good my SAT score is. But starting it from the beginning might be too psychologically tasking, and it's a gamble. I'm really tired of having life on pause, and I hate that this visa process is presenting another seemingly insurmountable obstacle.

Regardless, I'd appreciate some college suggestions that could offer better scholarships based on my grades and SAT, and thanks for the suggestions!

Hi potken

On your next interview, stop focusing on the already frustrated and annoyed visa officer. Her behavior can be a psychological warfare which can be used to separate the genuine applicants from the staged ones.

# Your parents have incriminated you (as an immigrant intent) in your past family B2 visa application, and you also seem to have a previous or present untrue ds 160 where you claimed married (may be your mistake or agent mistake) with series of previous travel history which the consular believe was a ploy to acquire a US visa.

# You also failed the twin questions ; Why did you pick this school ? And ; What do you want to do with this degree ? By over explaining which is a good indication of a cramming answers.

# You repeated same cramming indication in all of your answers and that was why the consular cuts you in intermittently, having over heard the same after graduation scripts too often.

Although your deficit is much, but if your parents are capable of proven the funds you should be fine.

1. Consular emotion is a trick. Don't focus on them.
2. Fill your next ds 160 yourself and be certain of the infos.
3. Give other reasonable reasons for picking the school
4. Give other reasonable post graduation reasons .
5. Give short answers. Brevity is the soul of wit.

G.
Thanks for this, I appreciate it!
But we were not seeking to immigrate when we applied for the visa. We have no family in the US and just wanted to visit Disneyland as our first international family vacation. Does applying for a tourist visa now indicate immigrant intent? They've never filed a petition for me before.
And I doubt the agent indicated I was married in my past DS160 as I was 9 years old then, but I'll be sure to check if so.

Thanks for your other suggestions too, I think I might have over-prepared. I'll try to keep my answers shorter in the next interview.

Sorry about your denial. More funding will help. Taking all your old passports with you also. Also, use the 'why were you denied' section of your next ds 160 to state the things that you have changed for better in your profile. Your age tells a lot too. Coming back for NYSC too sounds to me like a red flag, because, who comes back from the US to finish up their NYSC? At the point of your program completion, what is normal is that some organization is waiting for you to start working with them.

I wish you the best in your next application.
Thank you very much for the suggestions! Hopefully, I regain the scholarship, and I'll be sure to have the old passport handy. But I only said NYSC because I thought you have to complete it first before you can be employed at a governmental organization like a public hospital, or have the rules changed? Also, are you saying if I get the scholarship again, I should mention that in the DS160?
