Health / How To Care For Your Lips This Harmattan + Cure For Already Cracked Lips. by predgangsta(m): 10:07am On Dec 26, 2014
Saw this and thought I should share.

LIP CARE

The lip is the delicate area where lipsticks are applied
onto it quite often or even daily to enhance your
beauty. Some are blessed with a thick lip, while some
with thin lip. The lip area is so delicate and sensitive
that, the appearance of vertical lines and dull texture
around the lip and in the lip area, show signs of aging
when its not taken care of. As one grows older, the lip
becomes hyper sensitive and prone to dryness, lip crack, chapped and flaky, which may cause pain and
discomfort when talking or eating.

The surface of the lip is a mucous membrane and an
extension of what coats the insides of the mouth. Unlike the skin, it lacks the protective layer that helps to retain moisture.

Several factors have been attributed to the cause of lip dryness, lip crack, chapped lip, or irritation include changes of season, climate and weather conditions, the use wrong types of lip gloss or lip liner, insufficient moisturizing, food allergies, poor circulation can also result in dull appearance, and environment pollution is not left out as well.

Whenever you talk to somebody, lips draw your
attention. Lips are very sensitive part on your face.
Healthy and pink lips are considered beautiful. Soft and smooth lips are indicator of your beauty. Dull and chapped lips mar whole look of your face and it affects your personality also. There is constant need of lip care to keep them in perfect condition. There are many measures; you can take to take care of lips.
Dry, dark and chapped lips draw unwanted negative
attention which you surely do not want. Lips Care is not just one activity; you have to take constant care in the form of set of many activities. Lips care is regular ongoing care. Lips lack the oil glands so they lack ability to retain moisture. Only due to this reason, lips can become extremely dry and rough.

Lips care is comprised of protecting it from weather conditions, applying topical moisturizers, eating well balanced food and drinking water.

Various Steps for Lips Care:

First thing you should do is to eat well balanced,
healthy diet. Any good nourishment taken gets reflected from rosy lips. Your food should include lots of green vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts, whole grain and other nutrients. Healthy lips are the part of healthy body.

Increase your intake of water. Drinking water hydrates the body and skin. It maintains the moisture level of skin and lips.

Applying Lip Balms: Use a moisturizing lip balm to
repair your delicate lip area from time to time. If you
have to use a lipstick, try to use a moisturizing lipstick, and add a thin layer of lip balm formulated with sun protection properties. There are many types of lip balm which you can choose to protect your lips according to your lip condition – from a cream type for very dry and severe condition, moisturizing gel type for daily use, 2-in-1 lipstick and balm formula which is very convenient, to an easy to carry stick type. If you run out of a lip balm during emergency, quickly pick a natural based face moisturizer, apply a thin layer on your lip gently for temporary use. Or another way is,if you take vitamin E at home, break one vitamin E capsule and massage onto your lip, then leave it overnight.
Lips become extremely dry in cold months particularly during the harmattan season, when dry air strips off all the moisture from lips. The delicate skin of lips finds it difficult to cope with these harsh climatic conditions.
Lips crack and bleed due to lack of moisture and it is a real irritating condition. So regular use of a soothing lip balm which contains gentle and mild ingredient, is suitable for everyone of all ages,
Lips balms are special moisturizers for the lips.
Applying lip balm is very essential for lips to keep them moist. Lips balms also protect lips from weather conditions like dry winds, heat and sunrays.
Regular lip balm application can save you from this
harrowing condition.

Using Lip Gloss: Lip gloss is cosmetic which lends lips
a luscious effect besides moisturizing them. Women
generally apply this to beautify their lips. It is generally applied after lipstick application but you can apply a thin film of lip gloss without any lip color to give lips a bright shine.
Lips need constant pampering and nourishment to stay smooth and soft. You should exfoliate your lips before any moisturizer application. Use a very soft cotton cloth for this purpose. Exfoliating removes dead cells accumulated over lips and brings out soft skin.

Do not lick the lips constantly; first it removes any
moisturizer applied on lips and other thing it does, it
strips all the natural moisture from lips.

Apply lipstick using right method by using a lips brush.
Choose lipstick having vitamin E moisturizer and sun
protection properties in it. This type of lipstick apart
from lending color to the lips, keeps them moisturized and protected from damaging sun rays.

Remedies for Cracked Lips:
Dip black tea bags in boiling water and when it is
lukewarm, press it over lips; it will help increase
moisture level in lips. Before going to bed, do not forget to remove lipstick and apply moisturizer on lips.

Honey is another natural remedy for lips. Honey being a humectants, has moisturizing and healing properties for cracked lips. It can be applies on small cuts on lips because it is antibacterial. Apply it before bed time or throughout the day; it will leave lips smooth and soft.

Mix extra virgin olive oil and beeswax to make a paste
of smooth consistency and apply it lips. It is extremely helpful in severely cracked lips.
For sun damaged lips, you can apply aloe Vera gel over lips. Aloe Vera soothes and cools burnt lips due to sun exposure. You can rub the flesh of aloe Vera over lips to exfoliate and moisturize them.

Shea butter is very beneficial for extremely sensitive
lips, including children who suffer from sensitive lip
problems such as chapped, flaky lips. However, as for
very young children and babies, it is advisable to use a petroleum jelly to soothe and repair chapped and flaky lip, avoid using lip balms which are recommended for adults unless it is stated.

Religion / Why We Say Merry Christmas. by predgangsta(m): 11:08am On Dec 25, 2014
Almost everyone doesn't know how the phrase Merry Christmas was coined. I did a lil digging and came up with this. Not too interesting, but no knowledge is a waste.

Christmas has been celebrated since the 4th century AD; the first known usage of any Christmas greeting was in 1565, when it appeared in The Hereford Municipal Manuscript: "And thus I commit you to God, who send you a merry Christmas”.

‘Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’ was also in an informal letter written by an English Admiral in 1699. The same phrase is contained in the 16th century carol "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" as well as in the first commercial Christmas card, produced in England in 1843.

Also in 1843, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was published and it was around that time, that Christmas as we now know it was largely invented. The word merry was then beginning to take on its current meaning of 'jovial, and outgoing'. Prior to that, in the times when other 'merry' phrases were coined, for example, make merry (circa 1300), Merry England (circa 1400) and the merry month of May (1560s), merry had a different meaning – 'pleasant, peaceful and agreeable'.

Some people adopt Seasons Greetings or Happy Holidays as their greeting in order to be 'neutral' and capture people of all faiths and religions. But without doubt, Merry Christmas is by far the most popular Christmas greeting the world over and now you know why.

Enjoy the day and the season.
Merry Christmas. smiley

Politics / Time Lists Jonathan, Obama, Among World’s 100 Most Influential People by predgangsta(m): 9:20am On Nov 30, 2014
Time magazine has listed Nigeria’s President Goodluck
Jonathan as one of the 100 Most Influential Persons in
the World. Jonathan is the only African leader on the list,
published on Wednesday. It is also the cover story of the
current edition of Time. The list also includes United
States President Barrack Obama; U.S Secretary of State,
Hillary Clinton; American
billionaire, Warren Buffet; German chancellor, Angela
Merkel; President of the International Monetary Fund,
Christine Lagarde; Iran’s spiritual leader, Ayatollah
Khamenei; Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu;
footballer, Lionel Messi; Brazilian President Dilma
Rousseff; new North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un; Syrian
President Bashar Assad; American Republican
presidential candidates, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul; pop
star, Rihanna; fashion designer, Sarah Burton; and
Chinese heir apparent, Xi Jinping. The list was chosen
through voting by Time readers from around the world.
The citation on Jonathan, written by Liberian President,
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, reads, “Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe
Jonathan exemplifies the African political renaissance at
a time when the people of the continent are starting to
reap the fruit of their resources and their hard work.
“President Jonathan, 54, possesses the qualities needed
at this moment of great challenges, having come to
power at a crucial moment in the history of Nigeria. The
country has grown out of its past of corruption,
mismanagement and brutality, but the foundation of
good governance is still fragile. “In two short years,
President Jonathan has shown the same dexterity he
demonstrated as governor of Bayelsa, the same ability to
find the remedies to the many complexities of running a
nascent democracy. “He has spearheaded the fight
against corruption and turned Nigeria into an example
of good governance. He has also made a significant
impact on consolidating peace and security in West
Africa. From the onset of our own crisis, Liberia has
benefitted from the support of Nigeria. “President
Jonathan not only upheld the trend but added to it. With
leaders like President Jonathan, Africa is sure to move
toward prosperity, freedom and dignity for all of its
people.” The full list below: Jeremy Lin Christian Marclay
