EducationWhy You Think Digital/affiliate Marketing Is A Scam by PreetyOma(op): 10:48pm On Sep 19, 2024
The Not so glamorous sides of online marketing.

I remember how I wanted to become an affiliate marketer so bad, this was in 2023, I had dreamed so much about it. Promoting products with a unique link meant for me and me alone didn’t seem too much of a hassle to me or so I thought. I had been spending an unhealthy amount of screen time scrolling away through TikTok, Instagram reels and Snapchat, the highlights I was able to garner was that I needed to do something about my financial situation and I needed to do something about it Fast. “If it were that easy, everybody would be doing it, I thought” but then I remembered the book I read by Ben Carson, Taking The Risk, which further urged me to try every means necessary to take a step to getting out of the quote on quote “RAT RACE” as it is often called.
So, I began calling relatives, of course, this didn’t go so well, as they mostly promised and failed, then I got introduced to crypto airdrops by a friend, this helped me to a large extent to raise money to start my journey as an affiliate marketer, I promise you, I was ecstatic, I couldn’t wait, as the days rolled out I anxiously waited for the launch date of a coin till it did and then I kickstarted my journey.
Phew!!! You’d be expecting me to say I started making half a million in the nick of time, well the joke was on me, I had very high expectations too. All I was ever fed on social media was the glam and luxury, things that I knew were too good to be true, still I followed along naively, not because I was clueless but because I had a feeling that I would find a way to pull through regardless. First day of class as an affiliate marketing mentee, our supposed coach/mentor sent us forwarded messages which contained a stern warning of not taking screenshots from her telegram group, because she would find out and then proceeded to send a few screenshots she believed could be used as bait to invite new people into the business, in her words “You have to take this business seriously, it’s only for serious minded people, there is no way you’ll post at least 5 times a day on all your social media platforms with the credit alerts to show proof and nobody will show interest in what you are doing” This realization broke me, I couldn’t lie to people now, could I? Everything about the method just didn’t make sense. So you mean to say that you’ve been able to make over $10k in sales commissions from lying to people? If that isn’t cruel I don’t know what is, many things kept running through my mind as it dawned on me that I had really been sold a dream because I was too focused on the lifestyle and numerous flamboyant contents I was feeding on. I studied the course that came with the registration for a while before I decided to try out her supposed method. It is true what they say about the laws of attraction, you attract what you think about, I wasn’t able to make a sale because I had no belief in her method, I myself felt robbed on realizing what I had gotten myself into, I wouldn’t wish for someone else to go through the same things through me. Moving forward I started reading, I bought another course that taught me how to market on social media and create content, I was registered on every free site that taught courses just to understand how to go about the business honestly, without selling anybody a dream or a false hope just to make a commission, I slept on YouTube because the amount of time I spent there was unbelievable, I even started listening to podcasts, I didn’t want to lose hope about making sales or affiliate marketing in general, it took me well over 6 months to make my first sale and in that time I self taught myself to the point that I now have my own digital product, sales may be coming in slow sometimes, regardless I’m glad I never gave up

What I’m trying to say in a nutshell is, everybody has a different journey in every and Any business they choose to embark on, don’t compare yourself with anybody because you truly do not know what they be doing when no one is watching.
Give yourself grace, you sef Dey try
Aways incorporate prayer in your journey, God really does work wonders
Do not fall for the hype, if it were as easy and swift as they say it is, their family members would be doing it too
Don’t allow glam and luxury cajole you into taking a risk, you need to be very very very very sure that it is something you are going to be okay with adapting to so that the risk doesn’t take you, for cases where money is the reason why a person would want to do or join something, in situations where the money isn’t forthcoming, would you run away or would you stay and find a different way?
Do your own research first, ask a lot of questions if need be, so that you don’t have reasons to believe you were scammed

In conclusion, the business of affiliate marketing isn’t a scam rather it is the affiliate marketers that make it appear that way, you can’t get to any destination by sudden flight, everything has its due time and due protocol. In as much as I’ve never said that you will not make money as an affiliate marketer, all I’m saying is that it is not a get rich quick scheme, you would need to learn, relearn and unlearn a lot in your journey as an affiliate marketer, you’d always invest in courses to grow, read and watch a lot of marketing and sales content to help you gain more knowledge on how to sell your products or promote other peoples products, if you have checked yourself and this doesn’t sound like a category you are willing to comprise into, don’t bother starting something you may regret, if you are the type to always want to start doing a business because someone made a video saying and talking about how it changed their lives, calm down, you’ll still come across more videos in different niches and sectors that would tickle your fancy all over again, that’s why I said do your research so that you can find something that you resonate with and then think of how to get started.
No 2 persons have the same testimonies in the business of digital/affiliate marketing, this is to say that whilst some people can start making sales the first day they start, others can start a week after, a month after, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 months after, it varies in individuals, the end goal is to remain consistent and finally find what works for you.

If you ever need someone to put you through in the paid or free route to making money online, I’m your girl
