The Silent Killer Cooking is the process of preparing food mostly through the application of heat. Firewood is the most popular source of domestic energy used for cooking in Africa. In Nigeria, many homes and indeed restaurants resort to the use of firewood for cooking especially for large families, groups, parties, etc mainly due to the availability, inexpensive nature of firewood and lack of access to modern cooking fuels. But a large number of households are not aware of the hazards that are associated with cooking with firewood. Firewood https://www.samsfirewood.com/images/quarter1big.jpg Firewood is primarily sourced from felled trees. The major reason for planting trees is for the preservation of the ecosystem and maintenance of good balance. Deforestation by way of indiscriminate felling of trees for the use as firewood has been a major source of concern. Deforestation causes distortion or imbalance in the ecosystem and should be discouraged. It is even worst when the people felling trees do not care about replacement. It has been recommended that for every tree you fell, plant four others. This is not being adhered to. Trees https://www.pineswcd.com/vertical/Sites/%7BB4CF315C-B365-47D6-A226-5F80C04C0D48%7D/uploads/tree_clipart.gif Every log of firewood you see around came from a tree. A tree is a plant with an elongated trunk which supports its branches and leaves. Importance Of Trees • Trees provide oxygen (In one year an acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people.) • Trees refreshes and cools the environment/ streets and city – Through shades and releasing vapour into the air • Trees conserve energy • Trees save water • Trees help prevent water pollution • Trees help prevent soil erosion • Trees shield children from ultra-violet rays • Trees provide food • Trees mark the seasons • Trees provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife • Trees clean the air • Trees provide wood • Trees combat the climate change Every stick of firewood you use represents a felled tree that could have provided all of the above and lots more. But narrowing it back to our discourse, there is already a challenge brewing up as the trees are felled indiscriminately which is a health issue nobody is looking at. Fire Wood- The Silent Killer It has been widely reported of the very serious adverse health effect African women face by the continued inhaling of smoke emitted by firewood combustion. This Smoke contains complex gases and fine particles, which affects both the lungs and the heart. Firewood smoke is a great source of what scientist term fine particle pollution. It is painful that most users of firewood do not know the health hazard they are exposing themselves to. Fine Particles https://ep01.epimg.net/sociedad/imagenes/2012/09/24/actualidad/1348514270_964033_1348514666_sumario_normal.png The size of particles is directly linked to their potential for causing health problems. Small particles less than 10 micrometers in diameter pose the greatest problems, because they can get deep into the lungs, and some may even get into the bloodstream. Among these particles are “fine particles,” which are 2.5 micrometers in diameter and smaller. Numerous scientific studies have linked fine particle pollution exposure to a variety of problems, including: • Increased respiratory symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing, or difficulty breathing; • Decreased lung function; • Aggravated asthma; • Development of chronic bronchitis; • Irregular heartbeat; • Non fatal heart attacks; and • Premature death in people with heart or lung disease. Other Troubles Aside from the fine particles, the complex gas emitted contain sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and potentially carcinogenic compounds including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, formaldehyde and dioxins , which are known are known to cause cancer, Plus the notorious Greenhouse gas CO2. The Techno Solution Small wonder the Executive Vice Chairman of Techno oil ltd, Mrs. Nkechi Obi, MON, related with these facts passionately in a meeting with stakeholders in Lagos, Nigeria. She said, `Cooking with firewood is a silent killer because firewood smoke is more dangerous than cigarette smoke.’’ Citing a recent World Health Organization report, she said that cooking with firewood often resulted to indoor pollution, which globally accounted for over 4 million deaths every year. Mrs. Obi, who received Federal Government’s commendation few years ago for the `Going Green’ initiative of her company which is directed at popularizing the use of cooking gas in Nigeria has continued to sustain the effort. She further said that she was looking forward to when most Nigerian households would embrace the use of LPG and reduce the danger Nigerian women are being exposed to. The Techno oil chief said ``Why must we continue to decimate our women population and keep pretending as if nothing is happening?” Mrs. Obi said this, as she announced the commencement of the construction work of the multi billion Naira LPG Cylinder manufacturing plant which would be producing a minimum of about 5 million cylinders annually. She noted that When Techno Oil LPG cylinder production plant is completed, it will deepen LPG (Cooking Gas) adopting , create a clean, safe and healthier environment, make cylinders more available and affordable, create jobs and reduce the depletion of our foreign reserves through importation. True as her words have highlighted; cooking with firewood is a silent killer and the preferred alternative: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking Gas) which is greener, safer and healthier should be encouraged. #Technooil #TechnoGas #TechnoGas & Power Find out more at https://www.facebook.com/technooil/posts/545153098973403 https://www.experienceng..com

Nigeria Ranked Lowest in sub-Saharan Africa in per capita usage of LPG According to a current survey on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) consumption in Sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria which is the largest Economy in Africa is currently ranked lowest in LPG(Cooking Gas) usage in sub-saharan Africa. This is a big irony considering the fact that Nigeria has the largest LPG reserves in Africa Highlighting this further in an event with stakeholders, Nkechi Obi the Executive Vice Chairman of Techno Oil Ltd an indigenous energy group, lamented that Nigeria is still ranked lowest in sub-Saharan Africa in per capita usage of LPG, consuming 1.1kg compared with Ghana at 3.0kg.``South Africa consumes 5.5kg, while Morocco consumes 44kg per capita. ‘FG needs aggressive strategy to increase cooking gas consumption’ The Executive Vice-Chairman of Techno Oil, Mrs. Nkechi Obi, has implored the federal government to mount aggressive campaign to make Nigerians switch from use of firewood/kerosene to cooking gas in Nigeria. She also tasked the government to provide incentives for investors to build refilling plants and tackle the challenges militating against the distribution of cooking gas in the country. Obi, who disclosed this at a ceremony in Lagos to announce the construction of a multi-million naira Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) cylinder manufacturing plant, said the development will improve public awareness on use of LPG and expose the danger inherent in long period of use of firewood and kerosene. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/index.php/business/61608-fg-needs-aggressive-strategy-to-increase-cooking-gas-consumption Find out more on https://www.facebook.com/technooil |

adebayo201:well spoken. I think you truly get my point |
elijah2u:Pls read the full post @ http://www.st-princex.com/2013/12/synoptic-tales-from-here-and-beyond.html Then ask again if its a story for the gods |
For many years, I have read the first three books of the New Testament section of the bible (Mathew, Mark, Luke) and many a times I have asked myself which was the proper account or most accurate account of the life of the messiah Yeshua(Greek - Jesus)? I’m sure you must have too. But in the quest for the answer, I find myself asking a bigger question: Who wrote the books of Mathew, Mark and Luke ? You may say, that’s easy. Its Mathew, Mark and Luke! Well, I thought so too. Just then another question pops up : Why are they so similar? Its highly unlikely for three different people, from different backgrounds and orientations with different modes of expression , to write an account about someone using almost the same words (in some cases word for word), following the same order and sequence . well, as usual I decided to find out for myself and thus birthing this piece. I do not promise you the answers to all your questions. But, a possible reason why are so. The Word Synoptic is from two greek words : Syn (Together) and Optic(Seen) , which means Seeing Together. These gospels were called Synoptic because they include many of the same accounts, mostly in a similar pattern and in similar wording. But before we go into similarities and differences lets get a little glimpse of who these said men actually were. Assumptions:. It is generally assumed that: • Mathew was the first to be written, followed by mark and luke • Mathew , mark and luke wrote are the authors • Luke and mark were third person accounts while Mathew was an eye witness • Mark got his account from peter, while luke from paul Facts: • No original copies of the gospels have been found • Luke is the only gentile writer among them • They were all written in Greek • None of the gospels gives the identity of their author Similarities/Differences Almost all of Mark's writings is found in Matthew , and much of Mark is similarly found in Luke. Also, Matthew and Luke have a large amount of material in common that is not found in Mark. Matthew The accounts of Matthew , Mark and Luke are not eye witness accounts of the Life of the messiah as against that of John. But you may say what about Matthew! wasnt Matthew a disciple and an eye witness? Well, The style and language of the gospel do not suggest that. The account of Matthew relies so heavily on Mark's text, it seems unlikely that Matthew the Apostle was its author. Mark Internal evidence shows that Mark’s Gospel was written for Gentiles, especially for Roman Gentile converts. The Gospel quotes but seldom from the Old Testament ( 1:2, 3; 15:28), since an appeal to the prophets would have been meaningless to the Romans. So, too, the title "Son of David" is rarely applied to Yeshua(Jesus). Comparisons between the Old and the New Law - which form so striking a feature in the Sermon on the Mount are also missing. So, did the said John mark write the gospel that bears his name? The gospel doesn’t tell us! A great sigh of relief has been expressed by thousands of graduates in Nigeria as #technooil Nigeria ltd, a leading indigenous integrated energy group has embarked on the construction of a multi-million naira Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) cylinder manufacturing plant in Lagos, to produce 5 million units of cylinders annually. Upon completion, this plant is said to create no fewer than 1000 jobs in Nigeria. This giant stride of decongesting the already saturated labor market of Nigerian graduates, is born out of the company’s campaign to encourage more Nigerians to embrace the use of LPG (cooking gas) which is clean, safe and affordable. This is in line with the company’s Going Green initiative that advocates the use of cooking gas against the use of firewood or kerosene. #TechnoGreenNigeria #technooil keep tabs of their facebook page when openings are declared https://www.facebook.com/technooil
