PoliticsAggrieved Delta Oil Communities Threaten To Shut Down Operators by Prevail123(op): 7:57am On Apr 21
Having waited patiently for the Asset Management Team and the Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company, working with the NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL) to operationalise the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) ,Delta State host communities under OML 26 have said they can no longer wait and are now prepared to take their destinies in their hands.

This was contained in a statement signed by Erere Okpako and Angela Akpofa
For Isoko Grassroots Mobilizers.

According to the group, Chapter 3 of the PIA is very clear about the responsibility of the Settlor to the host communities.

"It is expected that three percent of the settlors yearly Operating Expenditure (OPEX) is set aside for community development through the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT).

"But strangely, the settlor only made a paltry remittance to the HCDT of OML 26 contrary to the PIA.

"This was in October 2025 nearly two years after the inauguration of the HCDT.
"Curiously, the remittance was short paid by about #2.4billion.

"The Board of Trustees (BOT) raised an alarm of the short payments by drawing the settlor's attention to the shortfall in November 2025 but the company didn’t respond until December 22, 2025 when a virtual meeting held without any resolution despite the assurance of the company that it would respond within two weeks.

"A petition to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) followed in January 2026 which now hosted a tripartite meeting of NEPL, the HCDT BOT at the NUPRC Abuja office on April 15, 2026 where the operator categorically said the shortfall was allegedly spent on Special Intervention Projects contrary to the PIA 2021 and the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) before the advent of the PIA.

"Although, the PIA allows for a one year transition, that one year post PIA elapsed in August 2022.
But we the stakeholders under the Isoko Grassroots Mobilizers are worried that the company Asset Management Team (AMT) led by Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company is playing games and we can no longer accept this.

"We are aware of the efforts of the BOT to ensure development of the communities but paucity of funds has been a clog in this direction.

"Before the Abuja meeting, we were aware of the Security Meeting the Isoko North Council Chairman, Hon.Godwin Ogorugba held with the security representatives in the Local Government Council area with NEPL and the BoT to nip in the bud any attempt to block the roads to the oil installations but that too yielded no results. This was on April 9,2026.

"We are not unmindful of the implications of a blockade but we can no longer wait endlessly for developments that are not forthcoming.

"These communities have lived without electricity and other amenities for ages, whereas the funds were meant for projects development in OML 26 as stipulated by the Petroleum Industry Act(PIA).

"The Isoko Grassroots Mobilizers have been monitoring the activities of the Asset Management Team and Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy in OML 26 and note with sadness the lukewarm response to the underdevelopment of the communities.

"A strange development not known to the PIA was introduced by the company where it said the funds deducted from 2023 to 2025 were adjusted OPEX but this is strange to the law thus creating the impression that the company was playing games with the 3 percent OPEX as stipulated in PIA thus starving the communities the necessary funds for development.

"The HCDT is handicapped in every material particular in the absence of the funds
for projects development.

" It is expected that the tripartite meeting held on the April, 15, 2026 hosted by NUPRC with Nigeria Exploration and Production Limited(NEPL), the Asset Management Team, Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company and representatives of the board of OML 26 Host Communities Development Trust(HCDT) in attendance may resolve the dispute but that meeting ended without any concrete resolution.

"NUPRC only directed NEPL to revert to them in two week's time with detailed documented evidence of special intervention projects executed with that shortfall.

"We of the Isoko Grassroot Mobilizers are not happy with this recent claim of the Assets Management team and y Sterling Global Oil Exploration and Energy Company of the alleged Special Intervention Projects.

"By this statement we call on NUPRC to prevail on Asset management Team and Sterling Global oil to do the right thing by remitting the shortfall payment to the HCDT without fail.

"It is on record that OML 26 is lagging behind in terms of infrastructural development in the Niger Delta.

"Our findings have confirmed that no single project has been executed since the PIA took off in OML 26, since February 13, 2024 when the BOT was inaugurated.

"We therefore call on relevant government agencies to prevail on the Asset management Team and Sterling Global Oil to resolve the issue and pay all the outstanding monies to avert shutdown of their operations in OML 26.

"Oil exploration should ordinarily bring development to host communities but from the antics of Sterling Global, the Assets Management team and NEPL, oil exploration is almost turning to a curse to the host communities. But as critical stakeholders, we are ready to mobilise all our people to end this injustice once and fall all.

" We say no to economic oppression and sabotage. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

EducationUTME: Lawmakers Praise Improvements In 2026 Exams, Flag Glitches by Prevail123(op): 5:42pm On Apr 20
Members of the House Committee on Education on Friday raised fresh concerns over technical challenges affecting the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), even as they acknowledged notable improvements in the overall conduct of the exercise.

The concerns emerged during an oversight visit to selected Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, where lawmakers observed the examination process involving over two million candidates nationwide.

Chairman of the committee, Hon Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji, commended progress in areas such as security and coordination across many centres. However, he expressed worry over recurring technical glitches reported in some locations, including the Good Success Centre in Abuja.

He noted that while occasional technical faults are expected in digital systems, repeated disruptions during examinations could adversely affect candidates’ performance and overall experience.

Hon Oforji emphasized the need for proactive measures to address such issues before examinations begin, stressing that avoidable disruptions place unnecessary stress on students.

The committee consequently directed JAMB to take immediate and decisive action to resolve the challenges and ensure smooth operations across all CBT centres.

“As part of our oversight responsibility, we will thoroughly review JAMB’s activities to ensure these lapses do not reoccur,” a member of the delegation stated.

Lawmakers also underscored the importance of the UTME as a key gateway to tertiary education in Nigeria, highlighting the participation of a diverse pool of candidates, including working professionals such as military personnel seeking academic advancement.

They warned that no candidate should be disadvantaged or denied the opportunity to sit for the examination due to technical failures, particularly after traveling long distances to test centres.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with JAMB to enhance the examination process and ensure fairness, efficiency, and credibility in future UTME exercises.

PoliticsNEWOMCII Pushes Grassroots Partnership, Meets Nidcom Chief Abike Dabiri-erewa by Prevail123(op): 4:51pm On Apr 20
In a renewed push to bridge the gap between government policies and grassroots realities, the New Dawn for Women and Community Intervention Initiative (NEWOMCII) is calling for deeper collaboration between public institutions and civil society organisations to strengthen development delivery across communities in Nigeria.

It was against this backdrop that the leadership of NEWOMCII paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja, to present its development framework and seek stronger institutional collaboration.

The delegation was led by the Founder and Chairman of NEWOMCII, Alhaji Bolaji Raji, alongside the National Coordinator, Hajiya Sa’adatu Adamu Bokane, and other members of the organisation’s national executive team.

During the visit, Bokane said the organisation was established to function as a bridge between government policies and grassroots communities, particularly in rural and underserved areas where access to development information and intervention programmes remains limited.

She explained that while government continues to implement initiatives across agriculture, education, health, and social welfare, many communities still struggle to fully access or understand these opportunities due to communication and structural gaps.

According to her, NEWOMCII is designed to complement national efforts by ensuring that development programmes are not only implemented but also properly understood and accessed at the community level.

She noted that the organisation operates through a nationwide structure that includes regional coordinators, state executives, and local government focal officers across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, allowing for direct grassroots engagement.

Bokane further disclosed that NEWOMCII also deploys technical officers and consultants across its thematic areas to ensure that its interventions are professionally guided, properly monitored, and aligned with development standards.

She added that agriculture remains a key focus area for the organisation, alongside support for small businesses, women led enterprises, skills development, education, health, and community welfare programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.

According to her, Nigeria’s population size and development challenges make collaboration between government and civil society not just important but necessary, as no single institution can effectively address all grassroots needs alone.

“Government is doing a lot, but the population is growing and the needs are expanding every day,” she said. “We believe organisations like ours must complement these efforts to ensure that no community is left behind.”

She described NEWOMCII as a bridge organisation committed to translating national development policies into practical impact at the grassroots, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

In her response, Abike Dabiri-Erewa commended the initiative and encouraged stronger collaboration between civil society organisations and government agencies in expanding access to development opportunities.

She stressed that credible grassroots organisations play a vital role in strengthening awareness of government programmes and ensuring that interventions reach intended beneficiaries.

The NEWOMCII delegation also used the visit to outline its flagship programmes, including the Women Grow Initiative for agricultural support, the Creating the Future Programme for creative enterprise development, the Skills for Life Programme for education and employability, the Care and Dignity Initiative for health and welfare support, and the Mobility and Safety Plan for community safety interventions.

The organisation further highlighted ongoing projects across various communities, where it has supported women in agriculture, provided processing equipment to improve productivity, and conducted medical outreaches to improve access to basic healthcare services.

Alhaji Bolaji Raji, Founder and Chairman of NEWOMCII, said the organisation’s mission is rooted in practical community engagement aimed at ensuring that development reaches those at the margins of society.

He noted that the organisation is structured to promote accountability and effective delivery through its multi-level coordination system spanning regional, state, and local government structures.

Raji added that NEWOMCII remains committed to working with government and development partners to expand the reach and impact of its interventions nationwide.

The delegation described the visit as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships that will enhance programme delivery and deepen grassroots impact.

They expressed optimism that closer collaboration with NiDCOM would help improve awareness of development initiatives and strengthen linkages between Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

Both parties reaffirmed the importance of sustained cooperation between government institutions and civil society organisations in addressing Nigeria’s development challenges.

NEWOMCII reiterated its commitment to advancing grassroots development through targeted interventions focused on women empowerment, economic inclusion, health, and community transformation.

PoliticsTinubu’s Reforms Reposition Nigeria For Growth Amid Global Uncertainty by Prevail123(op): 8:31am On Apr 20
Nigeria is charting a path away from economic fragility toward sustained growth, as sweeping reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu begin to stabilise the economy despite mounting global pressures.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C.

Edun explained that the administration’s policy direction, introduced since mid-2023, is focused on long-term structural adjustments rather than short-term fixes. According to him, the reforms are designed to build a resilient economic framework capable of withstanding external shocks.
He noted that the global economic climate remains volatile, with trade disruptions, export tensions and tightening financial conditions affecting many economies. Against this backdrop, Nigeria’s strategy centres on disciplined macroeconomic management to ensure stability and inclusive growth.
Key measures such as the transition to a market-driven foreign exchange system and the removal of fuel subsidies, he said, are already correcting longstanding distortions while strengthening the country’s shock-absorption capacity.
On inflation, the minister acknowledged continued pressure driven by energy costs, food prices and logistics challenges, but assured that targeted social interventions and agricultural support programmes are being deployed to ease the burden on citizens.
Edun emphasised that fiscal discipline remains a cornerstone of the reform agenda, highlighting a shift away from inefficient subsidy regimes toward prudent resource management.
Providing updates on economic performance, he said Nigeria’s growth rate has surpassed four per cent, foreign reserves have climbed to about 50 billion dollars and inflation is gradually moderating. Public debt, he added, remains within sustainable levels.
He further stated that the reforms are boosting domestic production and restoring investor confidence. Major projects such as the Dangote Refinery were cited as evidence of renewed private sector optimism, alongside increased support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
According to Edun, Nigeria is transitioning from a stabilisation phase to accelerated growth, with key sectors including power, agriculture, infrastructure and digital innovation expected to drive job creation and expansion.
He also revealed that development partners reaffirmed their backing for Nigeria’s reform agenda during the meetings, while investor interest continues to rise across critical sectors such as energy, agribusiness and infrastructure.
In addition, Nigeria is advocating for global financial reforms to lower borrowing costs for developing nations, a major barrier to growth.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of policy consistency in sustaining macroeconomic stability and investor confidence.
Cardoso noted that despite global economic headwinds, Nigeria has improved exchange rate stability and strengthened its external reserves, helping to cushion external shocks.
He also highlighted progress in the banking sector, revealing that the ongoing recapitalisation exercise has attracted about 4.65 trillion naira in new capital. As of March 31, 33 banks had met the revised capital requirements, enhancing the resilience of the financial system.

The CBN governor expressed confidence that continued adherence to reform policies will deepen economic stability, sustain growth and attract further investment into the country.

PoliticsNigeria Strengthens Push To Host AU Monetary Institute, Signals Readiness At Spr by Prevail123(op): 1:04pm On Apr 17
Nigeria has intensified its bid to host the African Union’s African Monetary Institute (AMI), with the Federal Ministry of Finance leading coordinated efforts to secure the institution ahead of its planned 2026 operationalisation.

The renewed push was articulated on the sidelines of the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C., where Nigeria is advancing its case as a credible host for the continental institution central to Africa’s monetary integration agenda.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Raymond Omachi, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, underscored the country’s full political and institutional backing for the initiative. He stated that Nigeria has moved beyond policy commitments to concrete delivery, with the necessary infrastructure and administrative arrangements already in place.

The Ministry emphasised that hosting the AMI aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic strategy of positioning Abuja as a hub for continental financial coordination. It noted that the institute represents a critical step toward deeper monetary cooperation, improved macroeconomic convergence, and a more integrated African financial system.

Earlier, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, had reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness through his representative, the Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Mr. Muhammad Abdullahi. He indicated that a dedicated office facility has already been secured in Abuja and made available for inspection, reflecting the country’s preparedness to meet host country obligations.

According to the Ministry, Nigeria remains actively engaged with the African Union and is prepared to conclude all required agreements to ensure a seamless take-off of the institute within the stipulated timeline.

The African Monetary Institute, approved in February, is designed to strengthen policy coordination, stabilise exchange rate frameworks, and lay the groundwork for eventual monetary unification across the continent.

Senior continental stakeholders at the meetings reinforced the significance of the initiative. The African Union Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals, Francisca Tatchouop Belobe, described the institute as a pivotal step toward a single African currency and deeper economic integration.

Similarly, Chief Economist and Vice President of the African Development Bank, Kevin Urama, noted that the institute would strengthen financial stability, improve debt sustainability, and address structural constraints posed by multiple currencies across the continent.

Nigeria’s engagement at the Spring Meetings reflects a deliberate effort to translate continental commitments into operational outcomes, with the Federal Ministry of Finance driving alignment across policy, infrastructure, and diplomatic channels.

Nigeria Rules Out IMF Bailout as Reforms Gain Ground – Edun

Nigeria has firmly ruled out any immediate recourse to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), maintaining the growing confidence in the country’s homegrown economic recovery strategy.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, made this position clear while addressing African Finance Ministers on the sidelines of the IMF/World Bank Meetings in Washington.

Edun stated that Nigeria’s reform programme which has been sustained over the past two years has begun to yield tangible results, restoring credibility to economic management and strengthening the country’s ability to withstand mounting global headwinds.

He further underscored the government’s deliberate shift towards market-led policies, stressing that Nigeria has resisted the temptation of administrative controls, particularly in the areas of management of foreign exchange and petroleum pricing.

“The direction is clear,” the Minister indicated, “Nigeria is staying the course with internally driven reforms rather than turning to multilateral financing.”

He however cautioned that despite Nigeria’s improving outlook, that the broader African landscape remains fragile. He therefore called for accelerated and better-coordinated international financial support for vulnerable economies, as discussions intensify around a proposed $50 billion global assistance package.

While reforms have enabled Nigeria to build critical buffers, the Minister noted that many African countries remain highly exposed to external shocks and urgently require support to stabilise their economies.

Edun concluded that Nigeria’s reliance on market mechanisms has helped soften the impact of necessary adjustments, reducing dislocations and keeping the economy on a steady macroeconomic trajectory even as global uncertainties persist.

PoliticsEze Ndigbo Fires Back At FG, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Over Diaspora Title Ban by Prevail123(op): 7:08am On Apr 13
A prominent Igbo traditional leader in the diaspora, His Highness Ezeigbo Nkem-Alakammadu, has issued a strongly worded rebuttal to the Federal Government and Ohanaeze Ndigbo following recent moves to ban or delegitimize the use of the “Eze Ndigbo” title outside Nigeria.

In a “Royal Proclamation and International Position Statement” released for global circulation, the Canada-based monarch defended the legitimacy of the Ezeigbo institution in the diaspora, describing attempts to abolish or restrict it as “legally baseless” and lacking jurisdiction.

The statement emphasized that no Nigerian authority — including government agencies, socio-cultural groups, or traditional councils within Igboland — has constitutional or customary powers beyond Nigeria’s territorial borders.

“Under international law, sovereignty is territorial. Cultural expression outside a state’s borders falls under the jurisdiction of the host nation, not the country of origin,” the proclamation stated.

Ezeigbo Nkem-Alakammadu further argued that diaspora leadership structures such as Eze Ndigbo operate strictly within cultural and community frameworks, exercising no political or governmental authority that could conflict with host nations.
Citing legal protections in countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom, he noted that freedoms of association, expression, and cultural identity safeguard the right of Igbo communities abroad to organize and adopt traditional titles.

The monarch also dismissed concerns that the use of the title “Eze” could undermine state authority, describing such claims as “false, misleading, and legally unfounded.”
On the controversy surrounding nomenclature, particularly suggestions to replace “Eze” with alternatives like “Onyendu,” he described the debate as superficial.

“The disagreement is not about function but merely terminology. No authority has demonstrated any law prohibiting the use of ‘Eze’ outside Igboland,” he said.
Highlighting the evolving nature of Igbo traditions, the statement noted that cultural practices have long adapted to changing environments, including in diaspora settings.

The Ezeigbo maintained that the institution plays a vital role in uniting Igbo communities abroad, promoting cultural preservation, resolving disputes, and sustaining language and identity across generations.

He also criticized what he described as misplaced priorities, arguing that efforts to suppress diaspora leadership detract from addressing pressing challenges within Nigeria, including economic hardship and governance issues.

In a firm closing declaration, the monarch asserted that the Ezeigbo institution in the diaspora remains “lawful, legitimate, and culturally necessary,” insisting that no external body has the authority to abolish or redefine it.

He called on Igbo leaders worldwide, host governments, and cultural organizations to recognize the role of Eze Ndigbo as purely cultural leadership and to promote dialogue over what he termed misinformation.

“The Igbo identity does not end at the shores of Nigeria,” he declared. “Wherever Igbo people reside, there exists a living culture and a legitimate structure of leadership.”

PoliticsCalls For INEC Chairman’s Resignation Are Premature And Risk Undermining Democra by Prevail123(op): 7:52pm On Apr 12
...A Call for Restraint, Due Process, and Responsible Public Discourse in Nigeria

Sir Victor Walsh Oluwafemi
Public Analyst and Development Consultant has called for due process and responsible public discourse over calls for the resignation of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC's chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN.

In a statement he personally signed, Oluwafemi noted that:

"I am compelled, as a concerned citizen and a professional engaged in governance advisory and institutional systems, to address the growing calls for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash O. Amupitan, SAN.

"While accountability remains central to any functioning democracy, the manner, tone, and timing of these demands raise serious questions about intent and consequence.

"It is important to critically examine whether such calls are grounded in verifiable institutional breaches or whether they reflect political positioning and reactionary pressure.

Oluwafemi further stressed that: "The positions recently advanced by the African Democratic Congress and the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, if not exercised with caution, risk projecting a troubling precedent that leadership within critical national institutions can be influenced through public agitation rather than constitutional procedure.

“When institutions begin to respond to pressure instead of process, democracy itself becomes negotiable.”

"Nigeria’s constitutional framework is unambiguous. The removal of the INEC Chairman is not a matter for public sentiment or media campaigns, but one strictly governed by law. It is therefore both prudent and necessary to advise that all grievances, allegations, or concerns be subjected to judicial scrutiny.

At this stage, restraint is not only advisable but also essential.

“In every serious democracy, accusation must travel through the courts, not through microphones.”

"Equally concerning is the growing trend of unguarded and, in some instances, uncultured utterances across television, radio, and digital platforms.

"Public commentary on matters of national importance must be measured, responsible, and evidence-based. The consequences of careless rhetoric are neither theoretical nor distant.

"Recent electoral observations in Nigeria recorded over 200 incidents of election-related violence, with multiple fatalities.

"A significant driver of such tensions has consistently been inflammatory rhetoric and the premature delegitimisation of institutions.

“Words, when recklessly deployed in a fragile political climate, can become triggers rather than expressions.”

"It is therefore imperative to caution all stakeholders. Opposition actors must ensure that their engagements strengthen democratic confidence rather than weaken institutional trust.

"Socio-religious organisations must be mindful of the weight of their voice, particularly in matters that intersect with national governance.

"Those who appear on radio and television must understand that public platforms are not merely spaces for expression, but instruments that shape national mood and direction. Discipline in speech is not a limitation; it is a responsibility.

“Freedom of expression must never become a licence for institutional erosion.”

"This is not a defence of any individual. It is a defence of process, order, and democratic stability. Where there is credible evidence of wrongdoing, it must be tested through lawful and constitutional channels. Disputes must be resolved within the framework of the judiciary.

"Until such processes have run their course, calls for resignation remain premature and potentially destabilising.

“A nation does not strengthen its democracy by removing officials through pressure, but by upholding the systems designed to hold them accountable.”

"Nigeria must choose discipline over noise, process over pressure, and stability over sentiment.

PoliticsBREAKING: INEC Postpones Nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise Until After 2027 by Prevail123(op): 6:59pm On Apr 10
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached on Friday during a meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), where key electoral matters were reviewed.
In a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission said the postponement followed extensive deliberations on the proposed exercise.

INEC described the voter revalidation exercise as a vital component of its constitutional mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters. The process is designed to verify existing voter records, correct personal data, remove duplicate and ineligible entries, and enhance the overall integrity of the voter register.

It also provides an opportunity for registered voters to confirm and update their information where necessary.
Despite the postponement, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.

The development means that any updates or comprehensive verification of voter records will now take place after the 2027 electoral cycle, as INEC continues preparations for upcoming elections under the current voter register.

PoliticsIsoko Traditional Rulers Divided Over N250 Million Offer To Confer C by Prevail123(op): 6:52pm On Apr 08
A Delta South Senatorial candidate in a desperate bid to garner endorsements has made an offer of a whopping N250 million to Isoko Traditional Rulers for conferment of an omnibus Chieftaincy Title on him, insisting that he had never had one.

The offer is however been rebuffed by some of the notable Kings, who view the offer as a “Greek gift”, and vowed to stonewall it, while the other group is desperate to have their hands in the bounty.

A traditional ruler, who crave for anonymity said: “you are offering a hefty N250 million for a chieftaincy title at the eleventh hour when in normal circumstances it should be free based on your performances while in office.

Frantic efforts are being made to get the integrity group of traditional rulers on board to grant the Senatorial Candidate his wish through intensive lobbying.

The traditional rulers are said to be consulting amongst themselves whether to accept the offer.

Isoko is made up of 17 autonomous clans, each with its own authority to confer chieftaincy on deserving sons and daughters.

Last week Saturday, Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South gathered some traditional rulers, politicians and Isoko Development Union (IDU) at his country home, Emede in Isoko South and got an endorsement for a second term come 2027.

The endorsement had not gone down well with the generality of Delta South, especially the people of the two local governments in Isokoland as it has been heavily criticized.

PoliticsEaster: Reps Minority Caucus Calls For National Rebirth, Urges Decisive Action A by Prevail123(op): 7:01pm On Apr 02
The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives extended its warmest felicitations to the Christian faithful across Nigeria as they celebrate Easter, marking the triumphant conclusion of the holy Lenten season.

This was contained in a goodwill message jointly signed by the caucus leaders, Rep Kingsley Chinda, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C.
Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi
Deputy Minority Whip stating that:

"This sacred period, defined by sacrifice and redemption, serves as a powerful reminder of the victory of hope over despair; a message that resonates deeply in our country.

"Beyond the festivities, the Caucus emphasises that the forty days of fasting and prayer represent the spiritual foundation for moral regeneration of our country and our people.

"We urge all Nigerians to carry forward the discipline and selflessness cultivated during Lent, integrating these virtues into our daily lives to facilitate a genuine national transformation that begins with individual character and personal integrity.

The Caucus leaders further stressed that: "In these trying times, there is a pressing need for a deliberate recommitment to the core tenets of Easter: love, forgiveness, and compassion.

" As our country grapples with complex socio-political and economic hurdles, it is these enduring values that must bridge our divides, foster resilience, and inspire a collective responsibility toward building a more equitable and harmonious society.

"However, the Caucus notes with heavy hearts that the joy of the season is tempered by the persistent wave of insecurity plaguing our land.

"The renewed cycle of killings and kidnappings, particularly in the North-Central regions of Plateau and Benue, remains a grave threat to our collective peace and a stain on our national conscience that cannot be ignored.

"Consequently, we demand that the Federal Government move beyond rhetoric and implement decisive, and coordinated strategies to confront these security challenges.

" Our security agencies must be fully empowered and proactive, showing no compromise in dismantling the networks of terror that continue to displace our people and stifle our national development.

"We also call on the clergy and the laity to remain steadfast in interceding for Nigeria, seeking divine wisdom for leaders at all levels.

" At this critical crossroads, our country requires leadership characterised by clarity of purpose and courage to navigate the multi-layered crises of poverty and hardship that are currently straining the resilience of citizens.

"Finally, Easter symbolises the promise of new beginnings and the possibility of renewal. We enjoin every citizen to rise above divisive sentiments and embrace the shared ideals of unity and tolerance, ensuring that this season serves as a true catalyst for reconciliation and a renewed commitment to a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.

PoliticsINEC Stops Recognising David Mark-led ADC Leadership Amid Court Dispute by Prevail123(op): 8:02pm On Apr 01
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will no longer recognise the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, citing ongoing court proceedings and the need to comply with judicial directives.

In a statement issued on April 1, 2026, INEC said its decision followed the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/145/2026 involving Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe.

The Commission said it had received conflicting communications from the two factions laying claim to the party’s leadership. While one side urged it not to recognise Gombe due to a pending suit, the other demanded enforcement of the appellate court’s ruling, including the withdrawal of recognition for Mark and his executive.

INEC noted that the Court of Appeal, in its March 12, 2026 judgment, dismissed an interlocutory appeal filed by Mark and directed all parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the determination of the substantive suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Acting on the ruling, the Commission said it would withdraw recognition of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Mark and remove its members’ names from the Commission’s official portal.

INEC further stated that it would refrain from recognising or dealing with any faction within the party and would not monitor or acknowledge any meetings, congresses, or conventions organised by either group pending the court’s final determination.

The Commission also reiterated that it declined requests to install Gombe as acting national chairman, maintaining that doing so would violate the court’s directive to preserve the pre-dispute situation.

The leadership crisis in the ADC arose following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Okey Nwosu and the emergence of a new executive led by Mark, a development challenged by Gombe, who insists he should assume leadership in line with the party’s constitution.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality and adherence to the rule of law, urging political stakeholders to avoid actions that could undermine the judicial process or affect preparations for the 2027 general elections.

PoliticsNigeria’s Minister Of Foreign Affairs Amb Tuggar Resigns by Prevail123(op): 10:18pm On Mar 30

CelebritiesFunke Akindele Allegedly Snubs Toyin Abraham At Iyabo Ojo’s Movie Premiere, Spar by Prevail123(op): 7:16am On Mar 30
A moment of apparent tension among Nollywood stars has stirred reactions online after Funke Akindele was seen allegedly snubbing her colleague, Toyin Abraham, at a movie premiere hosted by Iyabo Ojo.

The incident occurred during the premiere event on Sunday, where several top figures in the Nigerian film industry gathered. In a now-viral video circulating on social media, Funke was seated at a table alongside Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe when Toyin approached to exchange greetings.

While Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe warmly acknowledged Toyin, Funke appeared to deliberately ignore her, looking away and offering no response. The development reportedly left Toyin momentarily embarrassed before she quietly walked away from the table.

The video has since generated mixed reactions from fans and observers. Some social media users defended Funke Akindele’s actions, suggesting lingering tensions linked to Toyin Abraham’s perceived alignment with remarks previously made by filmmaker Kunle Afolayan. Others, however, criticized the move, arguing that public figures should maintain professionalism regardless of personal differences.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Funke Akindele nor Toyin Abraham has publicly addressed the incident.

CrimeBREAKING!!! Alleged N2.5 Billion Fraud: Court Discharges, Acquits Sen Stella O by Prevail123(op): 8:23pm On Mar 26
Former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, has been discharged and acquitted of all charges of alleged N2.5 billion fraud charge by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

The ruling was delivered on Thursday, March 26, 2026, by Honourable Justice Muazu, following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, who amended the original charge.

Under the revised charge, two companies Sobora International Limited and Global Offshore and Marine Limited were arraigned as defendants. Representatives of both companies entered guilty pleas, prompting the prosecution to request their conviction and subsequent winding-up. The defence did not oppose the application.

The court accordingly convicted the two companies and ordered that they be wound up.

Counsel to Senator Oduah, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), successfully applied for her discharge, a request granted by the court. Similarly, Wale Balogun (SAN), representing the second defendant, Gloria Odita, secured the discharge of his client.

The case, initially filed in December 2020, has now formally concluded. Observers note that the matter carried political undertones, with expectations that all parties involved will allow peace to prevail following the court’s decision.

The convicted companies were charged under Section 319A of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, 2006.

PoliticsCross River North Senate Tussle Deepens As Pro-jarigbe Group Fires Back At ‘OBO by Prevail123(op): 6:06pm On Mar 25
The political atmosphere in Cross River North Senatorial District has intensified following a strongly worded rejoinder issued by Team Jari Media, dismissing claims by a group known as the “OBO Movement” over the zoning of the senatorial seat.

In the statement, the pro-Jarigbe group described the OBO Movement’s position—that the Senate seat is exclusively reserved for Obudu, Bekwarra, and Obanliku Federal Constituency—as “baseless” and lacking historical, legal, or popular backing.

“Our attention has been drawn to a laughable and fallacious publication credited to a faceless group parading itself as the ‘OBO Movement,’” the statement read. “This group is nothing more than a poorly disguised front for desperate political actors seeking relevance.”

The group further alleged that the OBO Movement is linked to former Governor Senator Ben Ayade and former House of Representatives member Hon. Legor Idagbo, accusing both politicians of attempting to reassert relevance through what it termed “primordial sentiments and political manipulation.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, this is not a zoning issue but a figment of their imagination, bereft of historical antecedents, logic, or popular consensus,” the statement added.

Team Jari Media insisted that the issue at stake is not zoning but the constitutional right of individuals to contest elections, emphasizing that any attempt to impose a rotational arrangement without broad consensus undermines democratic principles.

“Any attempt to foist a zonal arrangement without agreement is a violation of the constitutional rights of eligible candidates to contest,” the group stated.
The statement also took aim at the political records of Ayade and Idagbo, claiming both leaders had been rejected by their constituents in the 2023 general elections.

“His people, who know him best, rejected him without equivocation,” the group said of Idagbo, while adding that Ayade’s tenure was marked by “abysmal performance, infrastructural decay, and a legacy of indebtedness.”

Defending Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the group maintained that he remains the preferred choice of the electorate and has continued to engage stakeholders following his recent move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The people have already spoken, and their verdict is clear: Senator Jarigbe remains the preferred choice of Cross River North,” the statement said.
The rejoinder also dismissed allegations labeling Jarigbe a “paymaster” as defamatory and without evidence, warning that legal action could be pursued against those responsible for such claims.

“The allegation is entirely bereft of particulars and defamatory in character,” the group said. “All available legal remedies will be vigorously pursued.”
In a further escalation, the group accused unnamed actors of attempting to influence traditional rulers to support their position, describing such efforts as unlawful.

“It is ironic that those making accusations are themselves allegedly seeking to induce traditional rulers,” the statement noted.

Calling on their political opponents to engage directly with voters, Team Jari Media challenged Ayade and Idagbo to test their popularity at the polls.
“If you consider yourselves men, come to the field and let the people decide,” the statement declared.

The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the OBO Movement’s claims, reiterating confidence in Senator Jarigbe’s political standing and readiness for future electoral contests.
“Senator Jarigbe remains focused, undeterred, and fully prepared to meet anyone at the polls,” the group said.

PoliticsINEC Unveils Revised Political Party Regulations Ahead Of 2027 Elections by Prevail123(op): 8:41pm On Mar 24
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a newly reviewed set of Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja on Tuesday, INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, said the revised guidelines were aligned with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and designed to address gaps identified in the 2022 framework.

Amupitan noted that the Commission undertook a rigorous technical review to ensure the regulations are both legally sound and operationally effective, stressing that “credible elections begin long before polling day.”

He explained that the updated guidelines cover critical areas including party registration and mergers, internal party operations, conduct of primaries, campaign activities, political financing, and conditions for deregistration.
According to him, particular attention has been given to improving the transparency of party primaries, which he described as a major source of electoral disputes and voter apathy.

“By sanitising party primaries, we aim to end opaque processes that impose unpopular candidates and fuel avoidable litigation,” he said.

The INEC chairman also highlighted new provisions on election expenses, in line with Section 93(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which empowers the Commission to determine spending limits in consultation with political parties.
He further disclosed that the revised regulations introduce measurable benchmarks to promote the inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in party activities.

With the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and governorship and state assembly polls set for February 6, 2027, Amupitan said the Commission is working within a compressed timeline that requires what he described as “surgical precision.”
The INEC boss urged political parties to view the new guidelines as safeguards rather than restrictions, emphasizing that they are essential to protecting the integrity of the electoral process from candidate nomination to the declaration of results.
He also called for constructive engagement from stakeholders, assuring that INEC remains committed to neutrality while taking a firmer stance against practices that undermine democratic values.
The consultative meeting forms part of INEC’s broader efforts to build consensus with political actors and ensure a level playing field ahead of the next general elections.

PoliticsPDP Convention: Group Roots For Teejay Yusuf, Insists He's The Best Candidate Fo by Prevail123(op): 4:01pm On Mar 23
Barely six days to the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), scheduled for March 29 and 30 in Abuja, the North Central Initiatives; a group within the party has declared support for the emergence of Hon. TeeJay Yusuf, as the best candidate for the position of National Chairman.

The Group, a strategic alliance network of different associations in the North Central geo-political zone with allegiance to the PDP believes that the former three-term member of the House of Representatives aside being eminently qualified, is the best option for the PDP, at this point in time.

In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Alhassan Garba, Mr. Paul Itopa, and Alhaji Ambali Abdulganiyu; President, Secretary, and Publicity Secretary respectively, issued in Abuja on Monday, after its deliberations, the Group stated that, "as our dear party moves towards proper re-positioning, after years of challenges, difficulties, and crises, Yusuf is the best person to pilot this new dream and cause. Over the years, he has consistently emerged as a natural bridge-builder, an excellent networker who is loved by the vast majority of members. He has the strength of character, integrity, and capacity for the position.

We like to state unequivocally, that after extensive search, and sampling the opinions of party members with diverse and different cleavages, Yusuf ticks all the boxes. A thorough, true, loyal, and reliable party member, Yusuf has remained consistent in defending the values of the PDP; despite repeated offers from other parties. That Yusuf has built - and is still building - enduring relationships across-the-board within the PDP, and beyond is a strong indication of the numerous positives that the party will benefit from him, as the National Chairman."

The Group also believes that, "Yusuf's massive experiences in advocacy, negotiations, networking, and policy deliveries from his days as the Secretary-General of the National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS), and twelve years in the National Assembly where he emerged as a very resourceful, diligent, effective, and efficient lawmaker are what the PDP needs going forward. We are very confident that Yusuf with the support of all our leaders, particularly His Excellency, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, our National Leader, the fortunes of our party will not only be positively turned around, but also lifted to greater heights.

Though many party faithful know that Yusuf is not overtly ambitious, but for us, since we are convinced that he is the best option, we have begun strategic discussions with elders, leaders, members, and different groups canvassing what the PDP will gain with him as the national chairman. Happily, for now, there are positive reactions, and we are hopeful that, his endorsements will gather necessary mileage and momentum as we get close to the convention .

PoliticsEID-EL-FITR: Reps Minority Caucus Celebrates With Muslims, Calls For Unity, Char by Prevail123(op): 8:07pm On Mar 19
The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives extends its warmest felicitations to the Muslim Ummah across Nigeria and the world on the auspicious occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.

This was contained in a goodwill message to the Muslims jointly signed by the caucus leaders, Rep Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, Leader, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C.Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madak iDeputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi ,Deputy Minority Whip stating that:

"This sacred milestone, marking the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan, is a period of profound spiritual significance and a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and devotion.

"We warmly commend the faithful for their unwavering commitment throughout the month-long fast, a fundamental pillar of Islam.

"Beyond the physical discipline, we recognise the deep spiritual labour involved in offering prayers for spiritual growth and heartfelt supplications for the peace, unity, security, and prosperity of our dear nation.

"As faithful moves from the fast to the festivities, the Caucus urges all Nigerians to internalise and sustain the life-changing virtues cultivated during this holy period.

"These reflections offer both spiritual and transformative framework for both personal growth and national development, shifting the focus from temporary ritual to enduring character.

" Ramadan serves as a rigorous school for the will, where the believer learns to master physical impulses for higher spiritual purposes.

"By voluntarily abstaining from basic necessities from dawn until sunset, one develops a profound sense of self-discipline that translates into a greater capacity for leadership and citizenship.

"It encourages us all to prioritise collective progress and long-term national stability over immediate personal gratification.

"Central to the Ramadan experience is the cultivation of authentic empathy through the physical reality of hunger.

"This experience is designed to bridge the social and economic gaps between the privileged and the underserved, fostering a deep compassion for those who face such hardships daily.

"This heightened awareness naturally fuels the spirit of Zakat and Sadaqah, reminding every Nigerian that our resources are a trust intended to uplift the vulnerable.

"By turning this empathy into consistent charity, we ensure that social justice becomes a permanent feature of our national fabric rather than a seasonal gesture.

"Furthermore, the fast encourages a profound purity of intent, as true devotion extends far beyond the stomach to the heart and the mind, requiring a conscious effort to turn away from falsehood, anger, and malice.

"Ultimately, the communal nature of the month, marked by breaking bread together at Iftar and standing in unified prayer, serves as a powerful catalyst for national cohesion.

"These shared moments break down ethnic, tribal, and social barriers, reminding us that we are one people bound by common aspirations.

"While we celebrate, the Caucus remains deeply mindful of the prevailing hardships across the country.

"We use this sacred season to call upon the Federal Government to look beyond conventional methods and evolve truly ingenious, people-centered strategies to tackle our multi-sectoral challenges.

"It is time for the immediate initiation of policies that move beyond rhetoric to practically ameliorate the daily sufferings of Nigerians.

"We are confident that Almighty Allah (SWT) has accepted the prayers, fasting, and acts of Ibadah performed by the Muslim Ummah.

" May the peace of Eid dwell in your homes and the lessons of the fast transform our nation. Ramadan Kareem to everyone.

The lawmakers further decried the timing of the attacks, noting that they occurred during significant religious periods.

Aduda Visits APC Secretariat Hours After Resigning from PDPAduda’s visit, which took place shortly after his resignation became public, has further confirmed growing indications that the former lawmaker has formally aligned with the APC.

During the visit, Aduda spent about two hours in a closed-door meeting with the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, before departing the party headquarters.
Addressing journalists afterward, the former senator said his decision to join the APC was deliberate and rooted in his commitment to national development and progressive politics.
He noted that he played a significant role in mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, adding that he was often at the forefront of resolving electoral challenges.
“In view of this, I have taken a deliberate decision to align fully with the APC and commit myself to working for the success of Mr. President. I am confident that victory in future elections will not be difficult for us,” he said.
Aduda also cited the outcome of the most recent Area Council elections in the FCT as evidence of the APC’s growing strength, noting that the party secured five out of six positions through collaboration and unity.
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism that the APC would record even greater success in the North Central region and deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the policies and programmes of the current administration, particularly the Renewed Hope Agenda, are attracting widespread support due to ongoing reforms in economic restructuring and national development.
“We are implementing reforms that have never been attempted before. These are bold steps that are already yielding results and inspiring confidence among citizens,” he added.
Meanwhile, Spark News Daily reports that Aduda’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Karu Ward.
Titled “Notice of Resignation of My Membership from the PDP,” the letter cited the lingering crisis within the party as the reason for his exit.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the PDP with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party,” the letter read.

DICAN Sets May 20 for International Summit on Tackling Disinformation Threats

The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria has announced plans to host its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

The conference will focus on the rising threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a form of hybrid warfare increasingly seen as capable of undermining international relations and disrupting global trade and investment flows.

Speaking ahead of the event, DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the summit is designed to promote collaborative truth as a critical tool for strengthening global security and economic stability.

“A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment. Misinformation can scare away foreign investors and destabilize local markets,” he said.

According to the organizers, the summit will bring together diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders to deepen cooperation across diplomacy, intelligence, and the media.

Discussions will focus on developing international frameworks to counter state-sponsored disinformation, enhancing the detection and neutralization of hybrid threats, and promoting accurate reporting to protect national and economic interests.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who serves as DICAN’s Grand Patron, is expected to deliver the keynote address. He will be joined by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, alongside other security experts, regulators, and private sector leaders.

The conference builds on the success of DICAN’s maiden edition held in July 2025, which attracted participants from over 60 diplomatic missions, civil society organisations, and academic institutions.

By convening stakeholders across multiple sectors, DICAN aims to strengthen coordinated responses to the weaponization of false information and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a safe and attractive destination for investment.

PoliticsMaiduguri Bombings: ADC Slams Tinubu’s Absence, Urges Immediate Return by Prevail123(op): 1:12pm On Mar 17
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the deadly bomb blasts that rocked Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday night, killing at least 23 people and injuring several others.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed deep sympathy with the victims, their families, and residents of the troubled city, noting that Maiduguri has endured prolonged insecurity over the years.

The ADC described the attacks as a grim reminder of the fragile security situation in the country, warning against a relapse into the dark days of sustained insurgent violence in the North-East.

While commending first responders and security personnel for their swift intervention, the party raised concerns over what it termed a lack of leadership focus at a critical time. It criticised President Bola Tinubu for being out of the country when the attacks occurred, insisting that moments of national tragedy demand the full attention of the nation’s leadership.

The party also accused key government officials of prioritising partisan political activities over urgent security responsibilities, arguing that such distractions are detrimental to efforts to safeguard lives and property.
According to the ADC, the protection of citizens must remain the primary responsibility of government, stressing that it should not be overshadowed by political engagements or diplomatic outings.

The opposition party therefore called on the President to immediately return to Nigeria and take decisive action to address the worsening security situation.
It further urged the government to go beyond routine condemnations by taking full responsibility for preventable loss of lives, including providing compensation to families of victims, both civilians and military personnel.

The ADC warned that the continued loss of lives to violent attacks across the country is unacceptable, adding that Nigeria cannot afford to normalise such tragedies.

CelebritiesSegun Ogungbe, Wunmi Ajiboye Spark Reunion Rumours As They Hold Hands At Movie P by Prevail123(op): 6:41pm On Mar 16
Popular Nollywood actor and producer, Segun Ogungbe and actress Wunmi Ajiboye have sparked fresh reconciliation rumours after they were seen holding hands publicly nearly three years after their highly publicised breakup.

The duo appeared together on Sunday at the premiere of Ogungbe’s new movie, ‘Irete’, where they were spotted warmly interacting and holding hands, a gesture that has fueled speculation that the estranged couple may have resolved their differences.

Their appearance comes years after their relationship hit the rocks in 2023 following a controversy that trailed Ajiboye during her mother’s burial ceremony.

At the time, the actress came under heavy criticism after she publicly acknowledged Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, while allegedly ignoring Ogungbe at the event.
The incident intensified rumours that the couple had parted ways, with Ajiboye also facing allegations of having an affair with MC Oluomo — claims she strongly denied.

Responding to critics at the time, Ajiboye urged Nigerians to stop dragging her, insisting that she and Ogungbe were never formally married.
According to her, although they share two children together, the actor had not paid her bride price and had never formally met her family.

However, their recent public appearance together — particularly the affectionate moment where they held hands — has sparked widespread reactions among fans, many interpreting it as a sign that the Nollywood stars have reconciled after years of separation.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Ogungbe nor Ajiboye has officially commented on the status of their relationship.

CrimeMob Attacks Wanted Robbery Suspect In Enugu, Police Recover Pump-action Gun by Prevail123(op): 4:08pm On Mar 15
A suspected armed robber who had been on the police wanted list in Enugu State was severely beaten by an angry mob after he was caught with a pump-action gun at a market square, police sources said.

The suspect, identified as Friday Onwujekwu, popularly known as “Nwatico,” was reportedly apprehended by residents at the Eke Market Square in Akiyi, Umulokpa area of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area on Friday afternoon.

According to a situation report obtained on Sunday, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on March 13, 2026, after the police received a distress call that the suspect had been captured by members of the public and was being lynched.

Onwujekwu had been declared wanted by the state police command following an earlier attack on a member of a local neighbourhood watch group.

Police sources said that on January 10, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked Okechukwu Dennis Okoaku at Awkunato Village in Uzo Uwani LGA and dispossessed him of a pump-action gun before fleeing the area.

After months on the run, the suspect was reportedly sighted at the market square while still in possession of the stolen weapon, leading to his capture by residents.

“The suspect who had been on the run was caught at Eke Market Square in Akiyi Umulokpa while armed with the same pump-action gun he earlier stole. He was being lynched by an irate mob before police intervened,” a police source said.

The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where they rescued the suspect from the mob. However, he had already sustained varying degrees of injuries from the beating.

The suspect was initially rushed to the Police Clinic in Enugu for urgent treatment but was later referred to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, where he is currently receiving medical care.

Police authorities said the case has been transferred to the Command’s Crack Squad in Enugu for further investigation.

Meanwhile, security sources noted that the general security situation in the state remains calm, with police continuing aggressive patrols and monitoring across communities.

CrimePolice Conference Funds Not Diverted, Says Conference Organizer, Shina Philips by Prevail123(op): 5:53pm On Mar 14
Lenders Consult International Limited has stated that the company and its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shina Philips, did not divert funds meant for the organization of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers.

The company stated this in response to a report published on March 3, 2026, by an online news platform that alleged funds intended for the organization of the Nigeria Police Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers had been diverted. The company described the allegation as false and said the report failed to include its own side of the story.

According to the firm, it instituted and has been the organiser of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, described as the country’s longest-running football awards programme.

The company said its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force began after it proposed organising an annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers as part of efforts to support capacity building within the force.

It explained that the retreat brings together officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above to engage in peer review and exchange ideas on policing and security challenges.

The firm said its proposal included an arrangement where it would approach potential sponsors to fund the conference and retreat, adding that the plan was formally approved and has been operational since 2019.

"Arising from our desire to support the Nigeria Police in their capacity-building efforts, we approached the police authorities with a proposal to organize an annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, bringing together senior officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above to engage in peer review and cross-fertilization of ideas.

“Our proposal included an obligation that, as initiators, Lenders Consult International would be responsible for approaching potential sponsors to fund the retreat. This arrangement was well-received and approved from the outset. This arrangement is official and has been in place since 2019,” the statement reads in part.

It stated that the maiden edition of the conference was held in 2019, with the Lagos State Government serving as the host sponsor.

According to the company, the event was declared open by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented at the time by then Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Subsequent editions of the conference were held in Uyo in February 2022 and later in Owerri between 2022 and 2024, before the 2025 edition in Abeokuta.

“We kicked off the maiden edition in 2019 with the Lagos State Government as the host sponsor. The event was declared open by His Excellency, late President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, represented by His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo GCON, the then Vice-President. The Conference and Retreat have subsequently been held in Uyo (February, 2022), Owerri (October, 2022, 2023, 2024), and Abeokuta (2025).

The company insisted that it has never received any funds from the police to organise the conference, as the conference is a private initiative in support of the Nigeria Police.

“We would like to state very strongly that we have never, at any time, received any money by way of funding from the Nigerian Police for the sponsorship of the event. As a corporate entity, we have worked tirelessly to keep the Conference and Retreat afloat, even when sponsorship funds were inadequate to cover the event’s costs.

“For the sake of emphasis, we restate that Lenders Consult International, our MD/CEO, and any member of our staff, have at no time received any money from the Nigeria Police, nor have they ever shared any purported loot with retired IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, any past Inspector-General of Police, or Force Public Relations Officer.

The company further stated that the Conference has been a catalyst for police transformation and reforms.

“The Conference has been very impactful and has led to major transformations in the Police Force. One of the key takeaways from the Nigeria Police Conference and Retreat includes, among others, the establishment of the Police Institute in Abuja.

The company further stated that it later proposed the establishment of an annual Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations to recognise outstanding officers within the force.

According to the statement, two editions of the awards have been held in 2024 and 2025 in Abuja and were fully sponsored by the company and its partners.

It also said Philips, described as a FIFA-licensed football agent, had maintained a longstanding working relationship with senior police officers through various projects.

The statement added that he was appointed a consultant to the police in 2020 and tasked with coordinating activities for Police Week 2020, which was later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company said that since the appointment, Philips had continued to support police initiatives without receiving payment, adding that some official trips he undertook alongside the immediate past Inspector-General of Police were self-funded.

Reaffirming its position, the firm described itself as a responsible corporate organisation. It said it had maintained cordial relations with the media since launching the Nigeria Pitch Awards at a world press conference in 2011.

“We have acted as a responsible corporate body by supporting the Government as best as we can. In furtherance of the desire to continue to motivate the officers and men of the Nigeria Police, we again proposed the idea of an annual Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations, which the police authorities embraced. Two editions of the awards have been held in 2024 and 2025 in Abuja. The awards have been fully sponsored by Lenders Consult International and our partners.

“Our MD/CEO, Dr. Shina Philips, has been a patriotic citizen and a FIFA-Licensed Agent who has handled the transfer of some Nigerian footballers. He has enjoyed a strong relationship with the former Inspectors-General of Police and the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force while working on the Projects. He holds the Nigeria Police in very high esteem and is committed to partnering with them to make their job of policing Nigeria easy.

“In recognition of his commitment, he was appointed a Consultant to the Police in 2020 and tasked with serving as the sole consultant for the Police Week 2020, which was sadly aborted by COVID-19. Since then, he has continued to make his contributions without receiving any pay. It is based on this appointment that he has had to travel with the immediate Inspector-General of Police. Some of those trips were self-funded, and at no time was any money paid to him or the Company for any of them.

estuary.

Director General of Centre for Leadership and Citizens Awareness CCLCA, Dr Gabriel Nwambu while reading the recommendations in a communique revealed on Thursday in Abuja that:

"The Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), in strategic collaboration with 12 frontline Rights Organizations and
following a rigorous, expert-led fact-finding mission into the maritime boundaries of the Gulf of Guinea and the "mouth of water" delineations between Nigeria and Cameroon, our coalition has uncovered critical data regarding the ownership status between Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State.

He explained that: "This dialogue brings together 46 Civil Society Organizations to deliberate on these findings and propose a sustainable roadmap for regional peace and administrative clarity.

To this end six recommendations were made by the fact finding CSOs to President Bola TInubu.

The coalition said : "In view of the foregoing findings, the Civil Society coalition respectfully
recommends the following urgent actions:
1. Immediate Presidential review of the 2024 and 2025 Inter-Agency
Committee Reports on oil well verification and derivation
allocation affecting Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

2. Immediate Presidential directive for the proper demarcation of
the Nigeria–Cameroon maritime boundary within the Cross River
maritime corridor in accordance with the 2002 ICJ judgment
map.

3. Establishment of a Presidential Special Investigation Panel to
examine the circumstances surrounding the loss of approximately
780 hectares of Nigerian maritime waters within the Cross River
Estuary.

4. Immediate forensic audit of all revenues and derivation payments
relating to the Ekanga and Zafiro transboundary oil fields.

5. Investigation into the alleged unilateral approval of ₦33 billion in
payments from the Federation Account without Presidential
authorization.

6. Urgent diplomatic engagement with Cameroon for the
negotiation of transboundary reservoir development
agreements for the 49 identified reservoir continuity wells within
OML 114.

7. Restoration and recognition of Cross River State’s littoral
status based on the geographic and legal status of the Cross River.

Also in his brief remarks one of the investigators, Prof Sam Amadi said the tour was mind boggling and there's urgent need for the Federal Government to establish an independent panel to probe the various positions taken over the Cross River State and Akwa Ibom border dispute.

He said: "Our findings revealed that Cross River is indeed a littoral stare grossly marginalized.

Crime“I Deserve A Medal, Not Blackmail” - Police Officer Breaks Silence On Alleged N1 by Prevail123(op): 8:10am On Mar 12
In Nigeria’s often polarised conversation about policing, stories of officers claiming to have pursued accountability within the system rarely dominate the headlines.

But a senior police officer has now stepped forward with a detailed account of how an investigation she handled spiralled into what she describes as sustained blackmail despite efforts to uncover alleged financial misconduct.

Nkeiruka Nwode, who served as the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPRO) for Zone 13, has defended her role in an investigation involving the alleged withdrawal of over N100 million from the bank account of a detained suspect in Anambra State.

According to Nwode, the matter began on January 21, 2023, when a lawyer, Barrister Nweke, alongside Onyinye Ekwueme, visited her office to report that two brothers, Chibuike and Tochukwu Ekwueme, had been arrested by a Joint Task Force on January 11 but their family had no information about their whereabouts.

The lawyer also alleged that large sums of money were being withdrawn from one of the suspect’s bank accounts without authorisation.

Nwode said she immediately escalated the matter to the then Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Abutu Yaro, who contacted the Anambra State Commissioner of
Police to verify whether the suspect was in police custody. The Commissioner later confirmed that the suspect was indeed being held by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu.

During the subsequent internal inquiry, the officer in charge of the RRS reportedly stated that a serving National Youth Service Corps member, identified as Nnamdi Daniel Emeh, had withdrawn money from the suspect’s account.

Concerned about the reputational implications for the police, Nwode said she began efforts to track down the corps member, who had reportedly gone into hiding.

She later established contact with him via WhatsApp, during which he allegedly claimed that the money was with a police officer.

Further investigation, she explained, traced part of the money to a Bureau De Change operator in Onitsha after bank alerts revealed that N46 million had been transferred into the man’s account in multiple transactions.

The operator was arrested and reportedly told investigators that the funds were transferred at the request of a man identified as Paul Okorie, said to be a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the account provided, the funds were later converted into dollars and handed over through a bank staff member.

Nwode said investigators subsequently placed restrictions on Okorie’s bank accounts while attempting to unravel the full chain of transactions.

Despite her involvement in tracing the alleged fraud, the former police spokesperson said she later became the target of what she described as sponsored media attacks aimed at forcing her to abandon the case.

She maintained that the pressure did not deter her from continuing the investigation, adding that she eventually tracked the fleeing corps member to the Benin Republic, where he was arrested and brought back to Nigeria.

Reflecting on the experience, Nwode said her actions were driven by professionalism and a desire to protect the integrity of the police force.

“I deserve commendation and not blackmail,” she stated, arguing that officers who pursue justice within the system should be recognised rather than vilified.

Her statement comes amid renewed debates about accountability, transparency and public trust in Nigeria’s law enforcement institutions.

Addressing members at the inauguration, the Minister emphasized the central role of Transportation and Accommodation in determining the success of a major political event such as the APC National Convention.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to ensure secure and efficient electoral operations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to the National headquarters of INEC in Abuja on Tuesday, where discussions focused on enhancing logistics, security coordination and operational support for future elections.

Speaking during the engagement, the Chief of the Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force assured the electoral body of the service’s continued readiness to support election operations across the country.

He noted that the successful conduct of elections depends significantly on effective security arrangements and efficient logistics, stressing that the Air Force has remained a dependable partner to INEC in the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials.

According to him, the Air Force will continue to provide rapid airlift support and security assistance during elections, particularly in difficult terrains and remote areas where timely movement of materials and personnel is critical.

He disclosed that although some of the service’s C-130 aircraft are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance abroad, arrangements are being made to deploy other available aircraft to support electoral logistics when required.

Beyond logistics, the Air Force also pledged to deploy its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capabilities to enhance situational awareness during election periods.

The Chief of the Air Staff explained that these capabilities could assist in the early detection of potential security threats and enable timely responses by relevant security agencies.

He added that the Air Force is prepared to work closely with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, to protect critical electoral infrastructure such as INEC facilities, collation centres and logistics hubs.

The engagement, he said, also provides an opportunity to strengthen inter-agency coordination and conduct joint preparatory exercises aimed at ensuring a unified and effective security response during elections.

The INEC Chairman, Joash Ojo Amupitan who appreciated the longstanding partnership between both institutions, said collaboration with security agencies remains vital to the successful conduct of elections and the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria.

Both institutions reiterated their commitment to professionalism, neutrality and adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Search and Rescue Operations for Aircraft in Distress cooperation Nigeria's DGCA reiterated it is not merely a regulatory requirement under ICAO Annex 12; but a fundamentally a humanitarian obligation and a moral responsibility shared by all States that participate in international civil aviation.

He highlighted that when aircraft are in distress, time becomes the most critical factor in saving lives, and effective cooperation between neighbouring States becomes indispensable.

This as he affirmed the initiative aligns with the aviation development agenda of Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, which prioritises strengthened safety oversight, enhanced operational capability, and deeper regional collaboration across Africa’s aviation sector.

According to Capt. Najomo the agreement also operationalises key provisions of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) by establishing clear procedures for alert notification, coordination between Rescue Coordination Centres, mutual assistance, and collaborative response during search and rescue operations within our respective Search and Rescue Regions.

This, through this framework, Nigeria and Ghana are strengthening mechanisms for rapid response, seamless cross-border coordination, and effective emergency preparedness, ensuring that aircraft and persons in distress within our region can benefit from timely and coordinated rescue efforts.

From a regulatory standpoint, he said this Agreement further reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to fulfilling its international aviation safety obligations, while strengthening our national safety management ecosystem.

It also contributes positively to our preparedness under the ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach (USOAP-CMA), particularly in areas related to emergency response planning and State safety oversight, he said.
