Politics / Ezekwesili Warns Buhari: Do Not Alienate Entire Igbo by princessco: 8:01am On Sep 14, 2017
Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to avoid making the mistake of ostracising the entire Igbo ethnic group over the agitations of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Reacting to the military’s Operation Python Dance in the south-east region and the present state of unease in Abia, Ezekwesili said Buhari as a leader “must build a bond” with all his people.

She said all the people in the north can’t be categorised as Boko Haram insurgents, and as such, the people of the south-east do not deserve to be treated as “incendiary agitators”.

Ezekwesili, co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls group, said it is unbecoming of a leader to “send signals” that he abhors a group of people under his leadership.

In a series of tweets directed at Buhari, she said: “Do not alienate the entire Igbo ethnic group cos of a few that govt can use appropriate mechanisms to respond to any misconduct.

“All people of north-east Nigeria are not equal to Boko Haram. All people of south-east Nigeria cannot be equal to incendiary agitators.

“The leader of a country cannot be friends only of those he/she likes. No. That is not leadership. The leader builds up groups. Not divide.

“You cannot lead only those that worship and swear by you. You are the leader. You must carry the burden even of those that detest you.

“It the lowliest form of churlishness that is unbecoming of a leader to send signals that you dislike anyone of the groups you lead.

“A real leader does not suffer from the destructive disease of ethnic prejudice. It endangers his/her people & real leaders cannot bear such.”

Celebrities / 9 Banks Make N59.6bn From Account Maintenance, E-transactions by princessco: 7:10am On Sep 14, 2017
Nine banks in the first six months of the year made N59.596 billion from account maintenance charges and electronic banking fees even as customers continue to groan under the several bank charges that are deducted from their accounts.

United Bank for Africa, Stanbic IBTC, Access Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, FBN Holdings, Diamond and Fidelity Banks had jointly made N34.849 billion through electronic banking charges, although it was less than N76.155 billion which they made through the same channel in the first half of 2016.

With the exception of Zenith Bank which recorded a rise in income from electronic banking fees, the other banks had significant declines in the income from electronic channels. There was also a decline in what the banks made through account maintenance charges.

In the first half of the year, eight banks made N24.747 billion, a reduction in the charges compared to N28.368 billion that was made in the first six months of 2016. Of the banks, Zenith Bank stood out in what it made from account maintenance charges while UBA, despite the substantial decline in electronic banking fees income still recorded the highest figure.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), earlier in the year had reviewed the Guide to Bank charges cutting down what customers pay for electronic bank transactions although it retained the account maintenance fee which banks started charging after the phasing out of commission on turnover in 2016.

The apex bank in the revised guideline cut the charges on internet banking transactions to N50 from N100 and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) to N500 from N700. It however increased charges on card maintenance fees from N100 annually to N600 annually.

UBA which recorded the highest income from electronic transactions saw a 45.9 per cent decline from N18.085 which it made in the comparable period of 2016 to N9.781 billion. GTB which saw a 61.4 per cent decline from N17.263 billion it made in 2016, followed UBA with an income flow of N6.668 billion from electronic banking charges.

FBN Holdings also saw a decline from N10.59 billion which it made in 2016 from electronic banking charges recording an income flow of N6.53 billion, while Zenith Bank recorded a 168 per cent in income flow from electronic transactions in the first six months of the year making N5.386 billion as against N2.008 which it made in the comparable period of 2016.

Zenith Bank also made N8.32 billion from account maintenance charges in the first half of the year compared to N8.92 billion which it made in the H1 period of 2016. GTB increased it income flow from account maintenance charges from N3.89 billion to N4.87 billion.

Politics / Gov. Fayose React Over Military Invasion Of Nnamdi Kanu’s Residence by princessco: 12:57pm On Sep 12, 2017
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of becoming an authoritarian regime which cannot tolerate opposition.

Fayose made the statement on Monday, September 11, when reacting to the reported attack on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, and his supporters in Umuahia, Abia state by military men, Vanguard reports.

The governor said it was time to ask the federal government what the Igbo people have done to deserve mistreatment. “The invasion is condemnable and the present government is becoming authoritarian. It is proving not to be a peaceful one. The government is also operating double standards. They went to court to revoke his bail and they can’t be patient enough for the court to decide on the matter.

“We need dialogue. People have to ask the FG what the Igbo people have done to deserve all this. Even if they have done anything wrong, they should be forgiven. The matter we have on hand is beyond Kanu,” he stated. Fayose dismissed the defence by the military that IPOB members blocked their right of way and were the first to attack.

He said that was the same excuse that was given when the army attacked Ibrahim el-Zakyzaky in Zaria, Kaduna state, during which hundreds of people were killed. “Up until now, the man has been in detention and the defence by the military in Kanu’s case is similar and we would not be fooled again.

They are also flying a kite that they are clamping down on hate speech, the question is what constitutes hate speech?” he asked. The governor described the reported attack on Kanu’s residence as another plot by the government to descend on whoever is perceived as the opposition. He said nobody can cage him, noting that neither threat of imprisonment nor death can gag him. “Their attempt at muzzling the opposition will fail. For me, I will continue to be the voice of the opposition,” he said.

Celebrities / Leave Afia Schwarzenegger Alone – ‘prophet Warn’ by princessco: 1:36pm On Sep 11, 2017
Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom has mounted a spirited defense for the embattled actress, Afia Schwarzenegger after her husband caught her in bed with another man.

He cautioned those who have taken the actress to cleaners, to think twice.

The Founder and leader of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Center in Kumasi who has been a victim of Afia Schwarzenegger 's vitriolic attacks, suspect foul play, particularly, the role her house-help is said to have played in the case.

Prophet One as he is popularly called, could not fathom why the house help could betray her madam if she had nothing to do with her husband, Lawrence Abrokwa.

He also suspected the incident could have been planned since Mr. Abrokwa did not attack the man whom he caught his wife with.

“I think this thing is planned and the guy who slept with Afia Schwarzenegger knows something about it. Abrokwa did not attack him when he entered the room but rather focused on his wife”.

He cautioned Afia to be wary of the people around her if she wants t o live long.

“Give thanks to God for your life because the man could have killed her easily. Give your life to Christ and live a righteous life” Prophet One advised.

But APC will not run away. You and I must chase them away with our votes in 2019. ‬
