Well, we have sold power cheap for decades and we still do not have light. That should tell you something

Nitel even collapsed because it was forced to work at cheap prices. It's subsidiary mtel could not compete with the mtn and Airtel because cheap prices

Things cost money. The power companies have to pay for gas, pay salaries and pay for facilities upgrades and maintenance and all that costs money. People do not like doing things for free as much as we would prefer it otherwise.

In Ghana and ivory coast , power costs far more than it does here. They have 24 hour light as a result. We don't. The last time ivory coast had power outage was in the days of government control.

The unfortunate thing in life is that nothing is free in freetown. The price of stuff does not care about income.

We have poor supply of power because we do not pay the amount of money needed to make the sector work.

Sabotage my foot.
Lol this man again! I don't really know your problem. I have argued with you about oil subsidy in the past. What you are clearly advocating and preaching is for us to practice "Absolute Capitalism"

But you failed to realize that there is no country in the world where pure or absolute capitalism is been practiced including America. US and the entire Western Countries all have some form of social welfare programs for their unemployed and low-income earners. Absolute capitalism is not sustainable, it will collapse societies.

Is it not funny that you are preaching against subsidy but mute on 30k minimum wage in the country ?

When subsidy is finally removed in all sectors, then how will the man on a 30k minimum wage access electricity or even purchase fuel for his generator bearing in mind that a liter of fuel will be over 2k at full oil subsidy removal? What you're effectively saying is that electricity should be cut off from the poor.

Since govt in Nigeria is not providing any meaningful social welfare programs like other countries do, then subsidy should be allowed to exist as the only welfare benefits in the country for the masses. A govt minister few days ago said that only 5% of citizens have upto 500k in their bank accounts in Nigeria, that's the people you want to collect "cost reflective tariff" from?

Die this matter because you know little or nothing about macroeconomics.

Good points!

I have recently been exploring these topics. It's very likely that we are in a simulation and our creators don't mean well for us. Earth is not a blissful place. It's filled with pain and suffering and it could be that our creators are feeding from it.

Who taught all ancient civilizations around the world about human and animal sacrifice?

Ancient people in pagan Europe, Asia, The Americas and Africa all performed some form of human and animal sacrifices even up till this day to deities. The practice is universal despite these cultures not having any interactions among themselves. Even in biblical stories, you could see one of the creators asking Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to him.

I believe the idea of "loosh". The creators are feeding on the fear and anxiety of these humans and animals being sacrificed not on their flesh and blood and in turn the person that performed the sacrifice get RESULTS from the creators.

And it's even a universal principle, as an individual when you encounter pain and suffering (which obviously comes with fear and anxiety for the creators to feed on) you get rewarded with RESULTS.

All ancient societies the world over all have stories of beings coming from the skies to govern and teach them in agriculture, medicine etc. The ancient Annunakis were the beings Hebrews refers to as Elohim.

There is a lot going on that we don't even know.

They turned out with hyper victim mentality, lazy with barbaric behaviors.

Orji Kalu is not a local player. Dude is globally connected. He is a freemason and some rumored him to be a CIA asset. Man have been seen with many top foreign dignitaries. So much for a Nigerian senator.

This is when former IMF president then and current Boss of European Central Bank Christine Lagarde paid him a private visit in 2016 at his Home in the US. He is not even a senator as at that time.

The other is in 2019 when he visited Venezuelan president at their Villa.

There are hundreds of unofficial billionaires in the world that are not on Forbes.

Forbes has about 4-5 Nigerians on their list but for me there are more than 30 people in Nigeria who are dollar billionaires in worth who aren't on Forbes.

For me Babangida is the richest man in Nigeria as at today. Only his $12Billion Oil windfall loot in 1990 alone beat whatever worth Dangote have today. And by the way, $12b in 1990 is worth over 29billion dollars in today's money.

The billions of dollars recovered from Abacha loot since 1999 which haven't yet finished. If Abacha is alive today and enjoying in his mansion in Kano, would you have known he is worth that much?

I have seen an interview, where Elon Musk was asked if he truly believed that he is the richest man in the world. He said he can't compare himself with people like Putin. Mind you Putin is not on Forbes. Many billionaire Gulf state monarchs are not on Forbes.

It's very possible to be a dollar billionaire and not appear on Forbes. Orji Kalu is one of IBB boys. He made the bulk of his money during Babangida rigime. He gave PDP N500m in 1998

APC really destroyed this economy since 2015 they came in.

But going forward, Tinubu and Cardoso should swallow their pride and return to Emefiele's strategy of holding the Naira and removes all forms of floating be it partial or full floating. No doubt Emefiele engaged in many different fraudulent activities as CBN governor but his strategy of holding the Naira is still the best remedy for now.

Everything possible should be done to halt the free fall of the Naira or this economy will collapse completely.

Dangote Refinery should commence production Petro, Desiel and Jet Fuel are the major imports depleting most of our forex. And let's see if the local oil production will reduce the pressure on demand for forex as promised.

Diversification of the economy is still the ultimate remedy for this problem but that will be a long term solution. We need a short term solution to stabilize the Naira now.

Politics / Re: How Drones Can Be Used To End Kidnapping On The Highway by Princewill1(m): 3:51pm On Jan 21
IndexMode:
Those drones you mentioned are kamikaze drones. They are explosive carrying suicide devices. They will eliminate hostages as well.
Also, they cannot be controlled when in flight. They are pre-programmed to fly to a specific location, dive down and blow up on impact. That is why they are cheap. Basically, they are small cruise missiles on a kite thing.
Drones that carry automatic sniper riffles and can be controlled from base needs sophisticated communications rig. They are expensive.

The criminals will take just 1 step to get ahead of your idea. Place a scout a few meters away who will shoot at the wings of the drone to bring it down before it reaches their camp or radio Yonkers.

This thread I created as the topic implies is about using drones to effectively combat kidnapping. In the writeup above, I advocated for drones in general to be used by the security agencies to combat kidnapping, not just kamikaze.

Also, why I highlighted the Iranian-made "Shahed-136" is because of two reasons. One, because I wanted drones to be used not just only for surveillance purposes only but for actual launching airstrikes on criminal elements which I don't think our security agencies has ever explored this area before.

Two, because the drone I suggested is one of the cheapest and effective attack drone you can find in the market at the moment at about $20k(N20m) per unit. For Instance the Turkish-made "Bayraktar TB2" attack drone is $5m (N5billion) per unit. How many of this Turkish type of drones do you expect the Nigerian govt that is currently crying and battling of economic challenges to acquire ?

But the Shahed-136 I suggested can be purchased in multiple dozens due to it's cheaper cost. They can get a good drone in the market exclusively for surveillance and intelligence gathering while using the kamikaze for launching strikes.

Finally;

1. Pantami suggested using NIN to tackle it:

It will fail because kidnappers now uses their victim's phones to make and receive calls while receiving ransom money only in cash.

2. Farooq Kperogi suggested using geotagging, that is tracking phone lines using network provider tower or antenna:

It will also fail because all the kidnapper needed to do to excape the tracking is to come into the city and make negotiation calls from different parts of the city with his victim's phone thereby leaving many digital footprints on several network antennas in the city making it difficult for the security agencies to track while returning back to the hitherlands to stay with his victims and also switching off the phone.

3. Drones remains a potent method of combatting kidnapping in Nigeria. It will be deployed constantly to survey kidnapping flashpoints across the country and also attack kidnapping hideouts when necessary. I came up with this idea in 2020 when a close relative of mine was abducted on the highway.

Almost 80% of kidnapping incidents in Nigeria occurs on the highway.

In this thread I created I suggested using drones to combat it.

Excerpts:

"Kidnappers often use their victim's phones to make and receive calls during negotiation and they also receive ransom in cash so Pantami and those advocating for NIN to checkmate abductions are wasting their time.

The best way to combat this is for the security agencies to identify and list out kidnapping flashpoints recorded in the last one year in the country. Example; Abuja-Kaduna road, Enugu-Benue road, Lagos-Ibadan expressway etc and the portion or parts of the roads where the abductions took place.

I recommend the use of drones in combating the menace. Drones can effectively be used in surveillance, intelligence gathering and in launching strikes. The camera on drones can help in identifying enemy bases and troop movement and can strike when signalled.

There is this Iranian-made drone that has been instrumental to Russia's success in Ukraine; "Shahed-136". It's cheaper (about N20million), has long-range capability and can strike target effectively. It's loitering munitions can go upto 12hrs in identifying targets.

Acquiring few dozens of this and effectively deploying it to troubled areas will end kindnapping and banditry on the highway in matter of months 'no jokes'."

I am against the use of drones to strike targets, this issue was debated during the Obama era. Concerns about civilian casualties, the lack of transparency in targeting procedures, Who is making the decisions?
Are they going to be targeting farmers instead of terrorists or kidnappers?

I'm for using of drones for intelligence gathering. There are drones that can stay on air for an hour plus, if you have 3 when the other battery goes down it returns to base and the second one takes over with correct camera zoom functions and night camera.

Lastly Iran is under sanctions, Nigeria will never do business with it, that's why the drone is cheap.
To avoid or limit civilian casualties when using these drones, all they need to do is to send operators overseas for training or hire foreign operators to operate them.

I only suggested the use of drones in combating insecurity on the highway, it mustn't be the Iranian one. There is another good one made by a Turkish company. The problem is cluelessness on the part of our leaders in solving problems or lack of political will.

There is a mistake young people keep making in Nigeria.

If you're not making your income in a metropolitan city like Lagos, Abuja, PH, you don't have any business living there and paying upto 1-3m yearly rent to keep up.

You will see someone working remotely and earning in different ways online yet paying heavily to live in a city that doesn't generate income for him instead of moving to less expensive city where he can save more in a year.

I don't think so. Those in the corridors of power are not serious.

For instance, with the right technology and approach you can end kidnapping and one-chance robbery in Abuja in few weeks. The thing is we have incompetent hands in charge. Political appointments in Nigeria are based on reward system.

The government and security agencies in Nigeria are notoriously known to be reactive rather than proactive. It's been over 8yrs since kidnapping moved mainly from the city areas to highways and suburbs while the govt act as if they don't know this. We only wait till a big incident happens before we can react.

Kidnappers often use their victim's phones to make and receive calls during negotiation and they also receive ransom in cash so Pantami and those advocating for NIN to checkmate abductions are wasting their time.

Also kidnapping den where victims are kept are usually located in hinterlands and difficult terrains so it will really take a lot of resources and energy to combat this security challenge effectively.

Only the little money former minister Betta Edu transfer to her personal account can purchase over 30 units of this. The problem is those that has been leading us in the country over the years are clueless.

See let me explain to you, the moment transactions are cross border, the KYC, AML and CFT requirements become tougher and stiffer.

That's why it's literally impossible for Nigerian to have access to cross border accounts without very tight kyc requirements and any hint of money laundering, the accounts are shut down by the banks otherwise they are dine or could even loose their license.

You explanation is very watery.

First Dangote cannot have unilateral access to USD from the CBN without supporting documents for same.

Secondly the dollars are not paid into his account( local or foreign ) but rather into the account of the respective beneficiaries in renowned bwnkd abroad.

Do you really think the banks will risk their license because Dangote wants to round trip?

Common sense isnt very common afterall

YOU WANTED SOURCE, HERE IS IT:

"Sources have revealed that the massive fraud allegedly committed during the tenure of the former CBN governor, Emefiele, within many GBEs is now being uncovered by the Obazee-led Committee, and these revelations are expected to shock the nation.

The Special Investigator has traced approximately N8 trillion of looted funds from the CBN and GBEs to various bank accounts held by individuals and private businesses.

These findings are part of the preliminary report submitted by the Special Investigator to President Tinubu. An estimated N400 trillion looted from the CBN is anticipated to be recovered by Obazee’s investigative team.

The alleged illicit forex dealings by the Dangote Group were purportedly facilitated with the complicity of the Central Bank of Nigeria under the former governor, Godwin Emefiele, and certain major commercial banks in the country. These entities aided the Dangote Group in transferring $3.4 billion in proceeds from their illegal forex dealings out of the country to foreign personal accounts over the past decade.

The investigation into the Dangote Group was initiated following a petition received by the panel from concerned Nigerian and social justice advocate, Ahmed Fahad. Fahad had previously petitioned President Tinubu in August 2023, accusing the Dangote Group of gross financial misconduct and illegality, specifically, the abuse of CBN forex guidelines over the past decade.

The activist’s petition highlighted the diversion of $3.4 billion from Nigeria’s national treasury at rates well below the parallel exchange rate, a violation of CBN guidelines and a significant threat to the nation’s economic stability. The illegal transfers were made through Form A, instead of the legal route through Form M, further compounding the financial misconduct.

The implicated banks were accused of defying CBN instructions by providing millions of dollars to the Dangote Group at CBN rates, rather than sourcing funds from the parallel or interbank market."

What is Forex Round Tripping that Dangote was accused of?

Before Tinubu floating of the Naira, CBN under the previous administration had a fixed rate of dollar to naira at about N450 per dollar. While at the parallel market then dollar was N750 per dollar. Remember the dollar at CBN was gotten mainly from the sale of Nigeria's crude oil. Dangote will buy at the CBN at the rate of N420 with the guise that he wants to use for importation of raw material but rather he will move it to his bank accounts abroad, also he resales at the parallel market (Bureu de change) at the then rate of N750 thereby making N330 per dollar instantly. According to the investigators, he did this up to the tune of $3.4billions with the help and preferencial allocations of Emefiele in last 8yrs. I figured out that it's an illiterate that quoted me, that's why I took time to break it down for you.

Now the extra N330+ upto the tune of billions that Dangote made from the forex around tripping, what should it be called?

Is it looting of our Commonwealth at the CBN with tricks or what is it actually?

Look if you are dvmb and useless don't quote me.
